Located on a very quiet private street within 12+ minutes walking to Harvard/Central Square-2 blocks from river. Private bedroom and bath for two are not adjacent to common area in house. Hosts are mature creative couple with ties to both Harvard and MIT. Very hospitable and welcoming to all. Our visitors report that they really enjoy the "mini-suite" feeling of the guest area of our home. It is very private, and with its own mini-refrigerator (which we keep stocked with cold beverages) and Keurig coffee maker, they can hunker-down for work or relaxation in this quiet environment. Very fast Internet and full Comcast cable package. We also provide two city bikes with helmets and locks for use by guests.

We enjoyed our stay here and the hosts were very helpful in taking care of all our needs. Very nice breakfast supplies were provided which made for a nice start to the day. The location worked well for us, esp since we were fairly near the Central Square T stop. There is a nice little Italian restaurant nearby on Western Ave and we enjoyed being so near the Charles River.
Wonderful family and location
We stayed with these two for 5 nights and they were absolutely fabulous hosts; so personable and easy to talk with. Having a washer and dryer at our disposal was great. Very short walk right to the red line, which is so convenient. Park behind the house is a great plus, we had an awesome time walking around the playground/field and watching everyone play with their dogs!! Lots of great cafes and restaurants within five minutes walking distance. Parking was not a problem at any time.
My fiancee popped the question during our stay (yay!!) and they surprised us with a wonderful bottle of champagne as a celebration gift...very heart warming and kind. Luna, their pup, is an absolute 20/10 as well. We'd love to stay with Richard and his family again when we visit for another Bruins game!! Thank you again for being great hosts and having us!

Accommodations small and clean. 3 stars. Price 5 stars
Very welcoming host. Convenient to the river. Easy walk to Harvard Square. Full size bed. Not a queen.
Room exactly as described, and what makes a stay great is exceptional hosting
Location is perfect. Walk to local universities, back-bay restaurants, river, parks, T. We had a great stay here for college visits. Very generous provision of breakfast foods and basic supplies (e.g. milk *and* half-and-half in the fridge, fresh strawberries, etc. ) Thanks!
Good value for money
The downstairs apartment was cozy, and the owner was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for dining and sightseeing in the surrounding area.
Mixed feelings -great host, ok room
If you just need a base of operations and will be out/about most of the time, this is a good option. Note many of the pictures on the website are for the family's private areas--or so I assume as they were not visible to me.
The pros: Richard was very responsive and accommodating. He tried very hard to be welcoming and make things work. He provided food for breakfast which was kind and he didn't skimp on the options. He also checked in with us during the week to make sure he was doing what he could to make our stay enjoyable. My son ended up coming with me (we were dropping off his sibling at a summer activity) instead of my husband, and Richard not only flexed to allow that but brought down his son's trundle mattress so we could set up the bed on the floor for my son. The main bed was comfortable. The room was the size of a small hotel room, so enough space to get the job done. The location is great--we parked the car and walked or took the T. There were food choices within walking distance. Additionally, I left a shirt at the house and Richard took the time to call me, send a picture to figure out if it was mine, and was willing to ship it to me.
The cons: Richard does a great job hosting, so all the cons are based on infrastructure. You know when you're renting this is a basement rental, so don't be surprised that it's a bit musty. Richard tries to overcome this with room fresheners. Those don't work for me because heavy perfumes give me headaches--I unplugged the biggest culprit and covered the non-electric ones and that's how we know it is a bit musty. The bathroom is yours to use but also has the family's washer/dryer (which someone in the family was using while we were there) in it, so the basement didn't feel quite as private as it could have. The room didn't have a lock nor a private entrance so again, it didn't feel quite a private as I was expecting. Note this did not cause any problems in our case but if I was traveling alone, I would not have been comfortable with this setup. We had a dorm-sized refrigerator (fine), but no microwave as included in the site listing which would have been nice to reheat leftovers for other meals.
