Overall, the place was very nice, front porch was great, ideal location. We were able to walk to most attractions. Matt was very accommodating. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Beautiful, very comfortable with all the feelings of staying at home.

  • 4 of 5

The property was wonderful and location was great. The beds were extremely comfortable and it was wonderful to have an extra bathroom. This was the perfect spot for my friends to come and celebrate my 30th birthday and for us to be able to cook breakfast together and just spend time together. We were so thrilled that we did not stay in a hotel as this experience was incredible. There are so many things within walking distance, and even though I'm not one to walk in heels, there were plenty of Uber's no matter what time of day! The only negative thing I have to say is the water pressure was very limited (as to be expected in an older home) and the air conditioning would never keep up (it was also one of the hottest months so this was also to be expected in an older home). The rooms each had ceiling fans and thankfully the home provided fans so we could set them up around the house and patio which was very helpful. Overall a near perfect experience. Matt was incredibly helpful and easy to work with. Would definitely love to book here again in The future. The location alone was completely worth it!

Owner's Response: Alison, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. The AC was replaced with a brand new unit (still under warranty) less than a year ago, at which time we upgraded the tonnage to a larger model. It has worked well since. I'm not sure why it didn't keep up during your stay. The next time, let us know, we will be happy to check it out. Thank you again for visiting!

Wonderful historical property featuring updated amenities!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in 196-B Rutledge. This is the main house, upper unit. We had the pleasure to meet and chat with the owner, Matt. Matt was great to work with and very accommodating. The unit was a pleasure to stay in. It had the hstorical charm, but was updated a few years ago, so it had all the amenities that you would hope for. Everything was very clean and in good condition. The beauty of this place was having 2 comfortable King beds with ensuite bathrooms. The property is about a mile from the heart of the historic district, so we drove and parked downtown when we went there. It was a huge bonus to have off street parking for your unit! We never had any difficulty parking downtown - there is lots of parking garages scattered around the area. Rutledge Avenue can be busy and noisy, but it was never a problem. Also, we discovered Hominy Grill (which is located across the street from the property). Hominy Grill has a nice menu and features a Southern comfort food classic called the "Charleston Nasty Biscuit". We had it for breakfast one morning, and had to go back the next morning to have it again! It is a piece of fried chicken in a biscuit with cheese and smothered in gravy! Don't miss this one!

There is a grocery store called Harris Teeter (open 24 hours) located about a 5 minute drive from the property if you want to stock the kitchen. Local areas like Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island are a 20 minute plus drive and easy to get to. If you like to shop, be sure to walk up and down King St. Lastly, make reservations at 5 Church Charleston for an out of the world dining expreience. It is an old church that has been decorated in the most unusual manner. The menu is creative and delicious. There is a lot to see and do in Charleston, and this property is a great place to use as your base.

Summertime in Charleston is a dream

  • 5 of 5

We stayed about a mile away from downtown with many restaurants convenient to our place. Charleston is a town/city that has, restaurants, the water, beaches and all kinds of different sections of town. In addition, there are historic sites to visit and read about....very interesting! On fourth of July there was a huge fireworks show with 40,000 people in attendance down by the water. Tremendous. Travel to this won't be disappointed. And, stay in a beautiful place offered by VRBO. You'll save money and enjoy lovely quarters.
