Peter (energy engineer) had spent many childhood vacations in Inverness. Anna (editor) discovered it as a college student at UC Berkeley in the 80's. The wild, romantic beauty of Pt. Reyes' moors and beaches captured our imaginations even before we met. One thing led to another and we were finally able to realize our dream of having a place of our own. Inverness is not for the faint of heart - it's unpredictable - at times foggy, cold and moody, other times sunny and exuberant. Here we find peace and inspiration. Even our teen boys look forward to unplugging and chilling out. We currently live in Oakland, California.
Anna Edmondson purchased this house in 2011
Multiple bay-windows with views from the living room/kitchen of Tomales Bay through the trunks of Live Oaks on the bluff. Place offers a combined feeling of beach house and tree-house. 8-minute walk from mysterious and beautiful, isolated Shell Beach.
right on the lagoon with views through the trees from the bedroom and back deck and living room. nice wifi and work desk if you can stop looking at the view to work. we loved it here and will return..very quiet and the beach at the end of the street (about 1.5 miles) is one of the best beaches I've seen in California and we live locally! mary
We had a wonderful weekend in Inverness. We loved the house, it was nicely furnished and thoughtfully arranged for the 5 of us. The open great room meant that we could all be together cooking or reading or playing games at the table. The views of the bay were wonderful. We found everything we needed for a great stay and would definitely go back. The proximity to Pt. Reyes National Seashore was perfect for us because we had wanted to take the walk to the point to see the Tule Elk. It was an easy drive to the trail head so quite convenient. We explored Pt. Reyes Station for lunch on Sunday, which was also enjoyable.
Anna was great to work with and since it was last minute, she made the process very easy! The open floor plan was great..you could be cooking in the kitchen and be engaged with company in the living room and dining room. BBQ grill, spa and wood burning fireplace was great. Take a short walk to Shell Beach and it makes for a perfect weekend! Thanks again Anna and we hope to make it back.
Our family enjoyed a wonderful week here. It was the perfect location for outdoor pleasures, and we loved relaxing in the evening while making dinner together, playing ping pong, taking a dip in the hot tub, and dining either inside or outdoors. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are very comfortable, and the views onto Tomales Bay no matter what the weather leave you filled with happiness and gratitude for your good fortune to be there.
Anna was very welcoming, and everything about the home was spotless and tasteful, without being fussy. We have enjoyed all of the restaurants in the area over the years, and would recommend every one of them. The Farmers Market on Saturdays is a fun place to shop, and attend free cooking demos. A short walk from the house down to Shell Beach is a great way to catch the sunset after dinner. In addition to the hikes, and trips to the beach, we would also recommend making reservations for a tour of Hog Island, Point Reyes Farmstead, or the Cowgirl Creamery. Many good times can be had by all.
4 old friends gathered in Inverness at this great property to catch up after a 4 year hiatus. This wonderful place provided the perfect locale and ambiance for our discussions over drinks, walks and great meals in Pt. Reyes Station and up at Nicks in Marshall. Inverness is a great jumping off place for outdoor activity or quiet contemplation. I can't recommend Anna's place highly enough. We'll be back sooner rather than later.
This place is the best. The location is perfect for all there is to do in the Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Most of all, it was so lovely to stay in a house that felt like a real home -- from the beautiful decor, to the full-stocked kitchen to the turntable and vinyl collection. Everything about it makes a guest feel welcome. There is a pantry with an array of supplies that can be used and replaced. Tables in both front and back yards. Two bathrooms made guests staying in each room feel like we had enough privacy. We saw a cool woodpecker from the back yard and were able to identify it from some of the house's wonderful literature and material about Pt. Reyes. We went for some epic walks, cooked ourselves lovely dinners while listening to great jazz on the turntable and then relaxed in the hot tub under the stars. Couldn't have asked for a better or more comfortable home base. I'm already dreaming of when I can return .
This lovely rental in the Seahaven district of Inverness is a 7-minute walk to the romantic, wild, yet sheltered Shell Beach, perfect for an afternoon picnic or early morning walk. Hop in your car and you are minutes away from all the beaches and sights of Pt. Reyes National Sea Shore. Kayaking, paddle-board, and sailboat rentals on Tomales Bay are 3 minutes away. An oyster fan? Head to Marshall and buy delicious oysters to eat there or bring home. For meat lovers, excellent choices at Marin Sun Farms in Pt. Reyes Station. Our favorite short hike is the Firetrail from Old Inverness - like walking through a Chinese watercolor of windswept pines and craggy stone walls up to Mt. Vision Road and views of the Pacific Ocean.
