About Krystina Lankone

We moved to Vermont 15 years ago for its connection to nature, real local food & small town lifestyle. With backgrounds in design and architecture, we have renovated 3 homes in the area and enjoy polishing the gems that are often overlooked by years of neglect. Our intention is to bring a space back to its original simplicity while adding only the necessities for modern comfort. We've been astounded by the craftsmanship that went into this house over the year.

Krystina Lankone purchased this farmhouse in 2016

Why Krystina Lankone chose Chester

We watched this gem sit neglected for too long and took it on as a design/renovation project in the beginning of 2016. After 5 months of nonstop renovations, we have completed the first phase of this project. Our goal with this project is to enjoy the process, hence the name Amare "to do for the love of it". She's been a true pleasure to work on, this house just feels good, and we give thanks to have the opportunity to bring her back to life and now share her with our guests.

What makes this farmhouse unique

This pretty lady sit on a knoll in the village of Chester, and although you'll miss very little when you're sitting on the porches, the back yard offers privacy.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

Great stay in a beautiful house. The house is about 20 minutes away from Okemo Mountain. Krystina was very responsive and easy to deal with. If you have kids, this house is perfect for hide and go seek. Overall it was a wonderful stay.

Perfect for what we needed.

  • 4 of 5

My family of four stayed at the Amare Guesthouse for 5 nights in February in order to go skiing at nearby Okemo, for which it's a perfect location--just turn left out of the driveway, and you're there in 10-15 minutes. Chester is a lovely little town, and we had an easy walk to the local Scottish pub for a delicious dinner one night. Much nicer than staying in Ludlow!

The house is located at an intersection on a main road with a sidewalk out front, but it's set on a small hill, and while you do hear cars go by and occasionally look out on pedestrians, as New Yorkers it was nothing that disturbed us at all. Inside, the rooms are nice and big, the beds and furniture are extremely comfortable, the decor is very tasteful, and the kitchen makes for a perfect center of activity. We cooked several meals and loved having breakfast at the sun-drenched table. And we arrived to find a bottle of wine on the counter, which was a nice touch.

A few small quibbles: The photos make the house look a lot newer and shinier than it is--it's definitely an old house, and there are a number of closets and side-rooms that haven't been renovated at all yet. The curtains in the bedrooms don't block the morning sun at all, so get ready to wake up early. In the downstairs bathroom, there was a distinct smell of gas, and while Krystina assured us that there were no leaks and it was likely spilled heating oil, it was a little disconcerting and unpleasant. Finally, as cool as the private shower room looked the steam set off the smoke alarms--and so we couldn't use it for our visit.

Nevertheless, I would certainly recommend the Amare Guesthouse. Krystina was a great host and it was perfect for our needs. As long as you're aware that it's still a work-in-progress, you'll have a very pleasant visit.

Lovely Spot in Town

  • 4 of 5

My husband, 20-month old daughter, and I spent a lovely long weekend in Chester at the Amare Guest House. The remodeled Victorian house on the hill between Chester and Chester Depot was beautifully appointed, and surprisingly child-friendly. The furniture and beds were not only good-looking, but comfortable too! We might suggest a loveseat in the "TV" room rather than the cot, but other than that, we felt comfortable in every room! Also, the kitchen (the highlight of the house, in our opinion) had absolutely everything we needed for our stay. Chester is one of our favorite spots, so we were thrilled to see that this relatively new guest house is now a perfect option for us to stay in town. There is easy access to the local ski areas and other southern VT towns and we look forward to coming when the weather is warmer too. Thanks again for a lovely stay - we'll be back!

Beautiful restoration of a painted lady

  • 5 of 5

This spacious Victorian was the perfect home away from home for a long weekend of winter fun. It has been lovingly restored and was comfortably decorated with unique antiques and comfortable bedding. It is within walking distance to Chester and a 15 minute drive to Okemo - perfect location. The owners were accessible if we needed them and provided suggestions of places to eat and shop. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Exceeded my expectations! This house is a beauty and has been decorated with attention to detail.

  • 5 of 5

My family and friends absolutely loved our stay at the Amare Guesthouse. When we arrived, we received a nice warm welcome from Krystina - with a bottle of wine and binder explaining everything in the house. There were clean towels in every bedroom. We cooked in the beautiful gourmet kitchen both nights. Chester is a great town, conviently located to all the ski mountains. We skied at Okemo and Stratton and will definitely be back to stay here again very soon. I'm already checking your calendar for our next trip!
