Great Area, Terrible Owner
We stayed in one of the Myrick's Cabins over Christmas weekend. While we loved the area and skiing at Sunrise, the experience with the owners was absolutely horrible. One, they did not greet us what so ever at the cabin. When we got there, the heater in the living room was not working. Fortunately, we were able to get it fixed ourselves as the pilot had simply gone out. When we left the cabin, we did an excellent job of cleaning up and leaving the place as we had found it. However, Kathy just emailed me and explained she charged my credit card $312.85 for additional cleaning and for smoking inside the cabin. While we did have a couple of smokers staying with us, none of them smoke inside at all. We are not trashy people that do that sort of thing. We stay in several private rentals per year as we love to travel and never have been charged such ridiculous fees. I for one will never rent from the Myricks again and I advise the you be very cautious if you do yourself.
We’ve been successfully renting vacation property for 23 years because we work hard to provide a great place for our guests to make memories. After reading your review, I felt the need to clarify why you incurred these charges.
We try to accommodate our guest’s needs. For example, we allow dogs & smoking on our property—with conditions. All our websites state "dogs allowed subject to approval & ask owner for details”. In addition, our guests are provided our policies, in writing, in a confirmation sent following reservation. Following is a section from the one sent to you:
"This is a non-smoking cabin. An ashtray is outside for any smokers. If any evidence of smoking inside the cabins is found after your stay (odors, burns, etc.) a $200 fee will be charged to your credit card. Please do not throw butts on the ground...
No pets are allowed unless previous arrangements have been made. You have agreed to keep pets off all beds and furniture and to crate a pet that is to be left alone in the cabin for any reason. Please pick up after your pet & put it in the dumpster--all of us walking & playing in the woods thank you. :) A $15/night per pet charge has been added to your reservation for extra cleaning required after pets have stayed with us. Be aware that others may have dogs off leash…”
Arriving to clean after your departure, it was obvious that a dog had been in the cabin--there was dog hair all over couches & bedding. Your reservation didn’t include a dog. The cabin also smelled of cigarette smoke—enough so, that the next guest family could smell it the next day despite our efforts to eliminate the odor. We provide an ashtray on the porch and guests regularly smoke outside and the cabin does not smell of smoke.
Regarding the heater, when the pilot went out on the fireplace, I explained on the phone how to light the pilot. You said you knew how and could light it. I asked for a call back so I knew if it was ok or if I needed to go out. You called to say you got it. Problem solved. :)
We try to accommodate our guest’s needs & ask a few basic things to protect our property. We regularly have guests stay with us without any problems--guests that like to travel with their pets & guests that smoke.
You were charged $15/night to add your dog to your reservation, $50 for extra cleaning time to get the dog hair off all the furniture & bedding, and the $200 fine stated in your confirmation for smoking in a nonsmoking cabin.
Awesome for a quick getaway
Booked the cabin for a couple of days/nights to go snow boarding. We stayed with 5 adults and had a great time. Everything went according to plan as described and expectations were met. We arrived to find the cabin ready for us with the pellet oven warming up the whole house nice and toasty. We briefly met the owner who stopped by to check on our well being and we had a nice chat. The area was very quiet, we never saw any wildlife and the little lake is just a short walk. We brought our own meal and cooked up some nice steaks and shrimp on the propane grill. We hung out by the fireplace (Pellet oven) had our share of drinks since one of us celebrated a birthday and butted heads with the spiral staircase (fair warning for you tall people) but even myself considered short hit the darn edge, perhaps a little less vino next time lol :).
Snow was soso but snow boarding was still a hit. Tired by night we played some cards and games and just repeated a good time. The WiFi worked well, we did not once turn on the TV, We never even made it into town as we had originally planned, we liked our mini home a lot and want to come back sooner than later.
Great Cabin for Sunrise Ski Trip!
Stayed with 8 people (6 adults and 2 kids). Great cabin for kids, they loved the Foosball table. It would be a little tight with any more than 6 adults though in my opinion. The owners were very easy to work with and it was a perfect location for us. 5 minutes from the Molly Butler Lodge and Rendezvous Diner in Greer(Both great places to eat). And only about 20 minutes from the Sunrise parking lot. We will definitely be back!
We visited the cabin in September 2014 with another family. We had four adults and eight children. The room off the loft is definitely large enough to sleep several (2 on bed and we put two on the floor with an air mattress), plus a baby in a pack & play - we all fit! :)
Things we loved: The view is beautiful. The access to horseshoes and volleyball was great for the kids as well as plenty of space to roam. Though other cabins are nearby, you definitely have your own space! The kids also enjoyed the fuse ball table in the loft. The deck is beautiful and nice place to relax. (The inside gets warm due to the windows at certain points of the day - but you'd miss the views if covered - a mixed blessing!)
Things we weren't thrilled about: Though we paid additionally for each of our people, we were short on linens - by two beds. (We thoroughly checked all cabinets!) Thankfully we told our friends to throw some sleeping bags in their truck "Just in case". The level of cleanliness was not what we expected considering each visitor pays for cleaning for the next. It was not horrible by any means, but the upstairs bathroom needs a lot of attention in the tub and in general - lots of dusting is needed.
Overall it was a good visit with plenty to do for the kids and a nice place to relax for the adults. The cabin was well maintained and owners were good communicators.
Excellent cabin with great views
I reached out to Myrick's Cabin a day before a trip to the White Mountains after my original booking was cancelled with another company due to maintenance issues. By the end of my first phone call I had my reservation setup and later that night I had all instructions for getting to the cabin and things to do in Greer. Definitely turned a bad day into a good one.
The road to the cabin was as promised, which was smooth enough that my low clearance sports car could do it with no issues.
Everything in the cabin worked perfectly and the views in the morning were great. The porch and furniture was perfect for laying back and relaxing while watching the milky way move across during the night.
Already looking to return later this year.
Thank you for your lovely review...I'm really glad we were able to be there for you--and that you had such a good time! We try our best to provide a place for memories to be made! We look forward to having you stay with us again. :) Kathy
Myrick's Cabins was a wonderful choice! Their property was quiet and spacious. They had plenty of outdoors activities for us to choose from (volleyball, horse shoes, etc.). The Beartooth Cabin has an amazing view! The bed was comfortable and the kitchen appliance worked wonderfully!
Greer is one of the coolest places in the state during the hot desert summer months! At 8500 ft elevation the Greer valley is nestled in beautiful pines. Easy walking distance to the 3 trout stocked Greer lakes or a short drive to numerous rivers, lakes & streams. Hiking, horseback riding are nearby as well. If you are just looking to relax, sit outside on the porch or picnic table & play horseshoes, or volleyball & sit by the campfire & make smores during the evening!
