This luxurious 6000 sq. foot family vacation home is located just 1 mile up the mountain road, past the ski slopes, from the famous Omni Homestead Resort in Virginia's beautiful Bath County. The Homestead Preserve, a private residential conservation community, is bordered by the Nature Conservancy's Warm Springs Mountain Preserve and the George Washington National Forest, and offers an abundance of outdoor adventures and gorgeous mountain vistas. You may attend afternoon tea which is offered in the main lobby daily between 3-4. You can also take advantage of nightly movies and the hotel's history tour. For other activities and dining, the Omni policy is that non-hotel guests may make day-of reservations through the concierge. Please do this early in the morning, as available space tends to fill up quickly. The Omni Homestead Resort is a short drive or easy 1 mile walk from Mountain House, while the Old Dairy is 5 miles away in Warm Springs on Route 220.
'Mountain House" in The Homestead Preserve provides a serene and peaceful setting to rejuvenate, relax, and reconnect - the perfect vacation!
Mountain House was named by the owner's young granddaughters, who enjoy a break from city life during their frequent visits. The house was completed in 2011, and has 6000 square feet of living space. Built on a slope, what looks like a modest cottage from the front is actually 3 levels of luxury living with five spacious bedrooms and five and a half baths, all decorated with the owner's personal fine furnishings and artwork.
The master wing includes a piano study, screened morning porch, bedroom with gas fireplace, walk-in closet with desk, double sink vanity, a huge Italian terra-cotta tiled shower for two and a clawfoot soaking tub.
The attached two car garage provides protection during inclement weather. A separate entrance into the mud room/laundry area flows through the butler's pantry into the island kitchen and open dining area with seating for 10-12. This connects to the lovely, large screened-in main porch, which has additional dining space for 6 and a beautiful natural stone wood- burning fireplace. The porch is a wonderful gathering place to enjoy the evening breeze, a warming fire, and mountain views! The main level great room has a 22' ceiling open to the second level, and features a majestic floor-to-ceiling stone wood-burning fireplace.
The second level has 2 queen bedrooms, one with in-suite bath, and a large kids' bunkroom with 3 twins and full-size crib. The hall bath has double sinks, and a separate area for tub and toilet. A library loft serves as a comfortable spot for reading, watching TV, or working out on the Landice treadmill and Lifecycle recumbent bike. There is a double size Futon in the loft.
The walk-out lower level has a cozy family room with a gas fireplace, big screen TV and Olhausen pool table. A charming double bedroom and hall bath completes the space. The bath features a wildlife theme with tiles, cabinet knobs, and photographs of animals native to the Alleghany mountains!
The luxury appointments - Kohler and Toto bath fixtures, Hubbardton Forge lighting, solid oak dark stained hardwood flooring, fully equipped Chef's gourmet kitchen with Kitchen Aid Architect Series appliances and a dual-fuel 6-burner Electrolux pro range, heirloom oriental rugs, Casablanca and Hunter ceiling fans, comfy leather sofas, Woodard porch furniture, and fine quality linens - make Mountain House an extremely comfortable and relaxing vacation retreat.
Hello, and welcome! I am so happy to share my lovely mountain property with you and hope you will visit for an incredible vacation in a very quiet, serene, luxurious and comfortable family home. I am a retired executive from the food service industry, and live part time in Hot Springs and the rest in Northern Virginia. I have a large family of 4 adult children and 6 young grandkids, 2 dogs - and Mountain House is the perfect setting for us all to get together and relax.
I purchased my lot in the Homestead Preserve after searching lots of vacation properties along the East Coast. I was taken with the conservation aspects of the development, the club membership at the Omni Homestead Golf and Tennis with access to all hotel amenities, and the wonderful mountain views on the property and around beautiful Bath County. (There are no traffic lights in Hot Springs - only stop signs!!! A welcome respite from the congestion in NVA).
I selected a Southern Living house plan and began construction in early 2009. It was a challenge to build on such a sloping and wooded site, but it has been a rewarding and fun experience. I have really enjoyed planning the landscaping around the property and watching it develop over the past few years. The house is just spectacular, and has a wonderful floor plan for my large family. Plenty of space for everyone, with lots of memorable evenings spent on the porch with the fire going - enjoying conversation and smores! There are so many fun activities available at the resort, there is always something for all ages to enjoy. We especially love the holiday activities - our favorites are the hotel Christmas tree lighting ceremony and the summer holiday BBQ picnics on the lawn with live music and fireworks! The Homestead is truly a 4 season resort!
My favorite spot at Mountain House - cocktail hour out on the porch, taking in sunsets and the mountains; or walking our dogs, Maddie and Knuff, on one of the many trails winding thru the Preserve.
Lee Pareti purchased this chateau / country house in 2009

We stayed here this past weekend over the Memorial Day Holiday and had a great time! The property is simply beautiful! it's quiet and peaceful and has gorgeous views of the mountains! We had 6 adults and 5 kids (18mo-10yrs old ) and the house had lots of room. We love to cook and this kitchen was a chefs delight! There is a screened in porch off the kitchen/dining room area with a wood burning fireplace where we spent each evening relaxing and playing family games. There were lots of games and toys for the kids to use, even a Pottery Barn kids kitchen (our kids loved it!) The owner was very helpful booking reservations for golf and spa and even helped us with finding a babysitter! We had tea at the hotel every afternoon (they are serving cake every day in 2016 to celebrate their 250th anniversary...we couldn't pass that up!) and the hotel had a ton of scheduled activities throughout the weekend. We went to the hot tub at the old Dairy which was so nice... quiet and relaxing! The pool there also looked great but was still a little cold for us. Overall we had a fabulous weekend and loved this property and will definitely be back!
We stayed at the house with friends and family for a golf trip to The Homestead. Everyone had a great time and the house is beautiful. We where amazed by the quality / craftsmanship of the house and the furniture is very nice. For once the real look of the house / landscaping was nicer than the pictures. During our stay we played golf at both the Old Course and Cascades. Ate the breakfast buffet, had dinners at the Casino and Sam Snead's restaurant. Spent the afternoon at the spa garden at The Homestead. It was a very relaxing few days.
The homeowner is very well organized and everything is clearly marked with instructions. We will surely be making a return visit in the near future.
What a memorable Easter weekend we enjoyed at this lovely mountain home! The house is beautifully appointed and thoughtfully designed for families. The kids not only enjoyed the many hotel activities (egg decorating, crafts, movies, egg hunt and brunch in the ballroom), but also had plenty to do back at the house thanks to the toys, games, pool table and all the surrounding outdoor hiking/exploring areas. It was so relaxing to be able to retreat to this lovely home after being part of the action down the hill at the resort. We were so happy with our decision to stay here. Highly recommend.
This home is as advertised and better. Beautifully appointed in a lovely location, every item you could possibly need is there, from dishes and cooking utensils to toys for the children. There was more than enough private sleeping space for the 12 of us and room for all of us to be together fire side watching TV. Lee was delightful to work with and full of tips to improve out time there. We look forward to returning.
The pictures are beautiful but the actual home is even more beautiful. Lee is very hospitable and couldn't have been nicer. Decorated with great style and yet cozy at the same time. Highly recommend!
We have stayed at this property twice now -- once in the summer and once in the winter -- and both trips are among the best family vacations we've ever taken! The kids all keep asking when we can go back to the "mountain house" again.
During our winter stay we enjoyed ice skating, skiing, s'mores in the fire pit, the two pools (the beautiful outdoor pool is heated in the winter!), the hot tub, bowling, some wonderful dining, and a trip to the spa.
Our summer trip included lots of outdoor pool time (the kids loved the splash pool, lazy river and water slides), miniature golf, tennis and wonderful nature walks.
There are so many great activities that there's always something to satisfy everyone.
The Owner was very friendly, easy to deal with, well-organized, and keeps the house and property in immaculate condition.
The home is beautifully appointed, very comfortable, and incredibly spacious. There are lots of great spaces where we could all hang out together, but also plenty of room for the kids to go play by themselves.
And the views are simply spectacular!! Sitting next to the outdoor fireplace, sipping cocoa and watching the sun set was a pretty incredible way to end each fun-filled day.
Mountain House is located in The Homestead Preserve, a private residential conservation community of five neighborhoods surrounding The Omni Homestead Resort. Within walking distance to the iconic luxury resort and spa, the house sits at almost 3000 foot elevation and offers breathtaking views. Surrounded by the four-season splendor of the Allegheny Mountains, the resort is a National Historic Landmark and welcomed its first guests to the beautiful Virginia countryside a decade before the American Revolution. Every American President has enjoyed the gracious Southern hospitality the Homestead is famous for.
An array of outdoor recreation awaits you at Homestead Preserve including hiking on miles of trails maintained by the Nature Conservancy.
Rental includes full guest privileges to the Homestead Preserve Old Dairy Community Center recreation complex -- swimming, indoor 10-person hot tub and sauna, fitness facility, party room with fireplace and billiards, and boarding stables.
Some activities are available to guests at the Omni Homestead Resort and reservations may be made through the concierge on the day of the desired activity, pending space available.
