Porto - must be visited: Porto has an excellent new airport (received ACI Airport Service Quality awards last year) and several companies operating. Ryanair established recently a hub. Airport is connected to the city centre by Metro.
One of the oldest cities in Europe, Porto has enjoyed World Heritage classification since 1996. Perched on the banks of river Douro, one of its six bridges was designed by Gustave Eiffel, whose signature touch is immediately recognised.
Along these very banks, visit the iconic cellars and discover more than 30 Port wine labels, most of which are world-famous.
Within the town of Porto itself, lovely vast panels of Portuguese tiles, in all number of intricate designs and colours, can be admired in Carmo Church, Almas Chapel, the interior of Sao Bento station and indeed along many of its rustic streets. The town is equally rich in historic monuments and outstanding examples of Baroque architecture, such as Sao Francisco, the Santa Clara churches, town hall.
Porto - Comtemporary architecture: In more recent years, Porto has carved an enviable reputation for its contemporary architecture, two laureate Pritzker prize Siza Vieira (1992) and Souto Moura (2011) including modern designs such as the Serralves Comtemporary Art Museum and House of Music, both of which host permanent exhibitions and shows.
By train one day journay: Costa Verde lies in the Northern region of Portugal, and includes wonderful, charming cities such as Braga, Guimaraes and Viana, all located just 50 – 70km from Porto. Day trips are easily organised from Porto’s Sao Bento Station.
Don't miss Douro valley, also a World Heritage landscape, train from Sao Bento station, goes up the river Douro to the vineyards where Port Wine is produced.

Jamie was incredibly welcoming and gave us a ton of information about Porto and the apartment. The apartment itself was clean and comfortable and stocked with everything we needed and more! It was conveniently located, literally one block from the train station. If you are going to stay in Porto, stay here.

Location of this building is very central. Close to the train station since we arrived by train from Lisbon. It is a 5 minute walk up the hill. All the sights were walking distance from the apartment. I don't believe the tram goes up this street since we hardly heard it and even with cars passing through, evenings were quiet.
Now about the unit. We rented Unit 3. I must say the pictures were impressive as the apartment looked somewhat "lived in". It's older than what I had imagined. Don't get me wrong, I understand buildings in historic districts tend to have more character and have that European feel. I just thought it would be more renovated since the pictures looked somewhat new.
The unit could use some scrubbing down and probably dusting. We didn't end up using the "loft" bedroom since it was so dusty up there. The sheets and towels could use some updating. I would have rented Unit #2 since it looked like it was in a much better shape. My in laws stayed there and might be worth it for 50EU.
Owner was responsive. The bathroom drain was clogged when we arrived and Jaime was quick to get it fixed. The kitchen drain could use some unclogging too.
I recommend renting Unit #2. More bang for your buck!
Conforme à la description, nous reviendrons dans cet appartement si l'occasion se présente. Fonctionnel, charmant, très bien situé, proche du centre, il nous a laissé un extrêmement bon souvenir.
Propriétaire vraiment charmant aussi.
A fortement recommander.
We had a great stay in this apartment! Jamie was easy to coordinate with prior to arrival and then helpful while we were in Porto. The apartment had everything we needed, was close to transit and within walking distance to many of Porto's sights. The only improvement I can think of is a clothes washer...
We travel extensively and get tired of hotel rooms regardless of price.
A kitchenette adds immensely to your flexibility,
especially if you are staying several days or have some dietary restrictions you want to maintain.
Also at top of our list is location, location, location.
Some days it is nice to venture far, so transport is important.
Some days nice to stay close to the room, so you can pop in,
change clothes, drop some bags, take a nap etc.
We are extremely pleased that we chose the Studio 2.
All of the positive comments in the reviews are true.
Larger than many hotels we've stayed in, the apartment is
comfortable and bright.
We very much enjoyed lazy mornings in the room waiting for the rain
to let up, having a pot of coffee and fresh bread and fruit from nearby shops,
reviewing our plans for the day and the maps.
The apartment is on a nice shopping street near the train station. Also nearby is Rua de Santa Catarina a lively pedestrian shopping street.
The Pingo Doce supermarket a short walk away is a large complete store with everything you could need during your stay.
The apartment is so literally in the centre, 10 minutes in any direction is of interest.
Jamie provided excellent guidance for transport from the airport, met us at the apartment, and showed us on the city map places to see and things of interest.
Everything was within an easy walk or public transport from the apartment. Again, location ! Jamie is a very kind and gracious host and we hope to visit his apartments again.
As an additional note, I highly recommend the 3 day public transport card which Jamie told us about. 15 euro when we were there, it is good for unlimited travel for 72 hours from first use, on any metro, bus and the funicular from the river. An excellent value.
Hi Jaime. We had a great time! Thanks very much for your warm welcome. Apartment was perfect with a wonderful view over the Sao Bento station (loved by our train mad child who could watch all the trains coming and going) and across to the cathedral. It was in a great location to get everywhere just by walking or using tram/funicular (down to river)/bus. Lots of cafes, restraunts, shops and a supermarket all minutes walk away. It was also very easy to get to it from the airport by Metro. We didn't find it particularly noisy with the station so close, but we are used to city noise. Ceilings are thin though so watch out for your young children jumping up and down in the morning otherwise your downstairs neighbour might come up and complain! Room was perfectly clean and everything we could need was there. We tried dishwasher once but it was very noisy - we would have preferred a clothes washing machine! Apartment was small but just about fine for us with two very young children (both under four), it would be too small for those with older children we would think.
Charming, brand new, renovated stylish studios nestled in Porto’s World Heritage District.
Located next (200 metres) to Sao Bento - train, bus and Metro stations (40 min to airport), restaurants and traditional Portuguese cafes. Near main monuments such as the Cathedral, iconic tiled churches, theatres, and trendy Galerias de Paris street's new drinking establishments. Walking distance to Ribeira, river banks (Port wine cellars just across the bridge) and main shopping streets.
Studio 2 - Max occupancy 3 persons.
Cable LCD TV (47 channels) and WIFI internet free of charge.
