Peaceful getaway

Cozy cottage in very well maintained condition. Peter has made some updates and nice touches which aren't in the photos - gas grill, Keurig coffee maker, cute Fiesta dishes, a collection of movies on hand, and the new comfortable reclining leather furniture was a plus. Lots of wildlife just outside your door, we even had an eagle perched in the pines right next to the pier. There's a canoe available and we enjoyed exploring Deerskin River which is just to the east. If you don't bring your own boat, pontoon rentals are nearby. We opted to take a tour with Bill's Guide Service and Scenic Boat Tours and Bill had lots of interesting (although probably embellished) stories about the homes and their famous/notorious owners on Catfish and Cranberry Lakes. A private tour is reasonably priced, especially compared to renting a boat. We'd highly recommend staying here!

Lake Cabin Retreat

  • 4 of 5

Cozy, clean cabin with a great deck and view of the lake. Enjoyed the fireplace on the cold, rainy days we were there. Great place to read, relax, and watch nature--deer, otters, birds, foxes. Close enough to Eagle River to get provisions, but just far enough for an "in nature" feel. The lake can get noisy on weekends 'though.

Peter was very attentive and accommodating via text to our questions and concerns.

The only drawbacks we had were the television reception and the dvd player. There are only four channels the television receives; no cable/satellite. Internet/wifi reception is good. Great selection of dvds, but we couldn't figure out how to make the dvd player work. Written instructions for the dvd player might be helpful.

Owner's Response: DVD player is fixed. Previous renter had unplugged the power cord from the wall.

Very clean and neat! It had everything that one would need for a comfortable stay.

If we had to give one negative, it would be the steep steps to get to the lake. I don't remember seeing that in the pictures. We had one guest with bad hips and knees that made it down and back up from the lake (with all of our help) just once and it was too much to do it again. Hand rails may be a good idea for future guests. You definitely had to make your trips count! I prefer a more clear lake for swimming but once we took our boat out in the middle, it was good. I can't say enough about how cozy and clean the cabin was. It rained for two and a half days of our stay so the lower level was used a lot for playing games. All in all it was a nice stay!

My family and I (Wife, 2 kids under the age of 5 and our dog) just gone done with a wonderful week at the cabin. The pictures do not do it justice...the cabin itself is just perfect, with walls of windows, up-to-date appliances, and comfortable furniture & beds. The natural gas plumbed grill on the deck is super convenient as well. We brought our 16' boat and the dock was a more than functional to tie the boat off on and great for the kids to swim off of in the shallow water. The cabin sits on Scattering Rice Lake and seems to be a little less busy than those on the main channel which is nice.

Peter was a fantastic host, everything was set up as described and he is very accessible by phone and text message for any questions or comments you may have.

I give this rental 5 stars easy and would highly recommend to any one looking for a place on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes.

Very nice cabin.

Very comfortable with a great view of the lake. Would be really tight with 8 people though.screen door sticks, needs a little maintenance. Big disappoi tent was the fishing - We expected to catch more. The lake was very weedy, from what we heard is an invasive species of weed from Europe. Anyway the cabin itself was very nice.
