Traverse City Cottage Rental Photos and Description

7 Mile Long Lake 9 Minutes From Downtown Traverse City

Lakestone Cottage boasts a private beach on crystal blue Long Lake, with a sandy bottom at the shallow shoreline leading out to the pristine deep blue water. Perfect for adults, children and dogs. The spectacular sunset views, directly across the lake, and the calling of the loons create a seldom experienced serenity. The cottage, built in 1936, is one of the few original homes in the area, and the property was choice for all the right reasons! The well maintained, picturesque, modernized stone cottage, features a woodburning fireplace, wrap around picture windows to enjoy the water and sunset views, and a true retro kitchen to help recall the mid-century simpler, relaxed lifestyle. A completely remodeled bathroom, cable with DVD player, along with wireless broadband access and central air conditioning provides the expected current necessities. The kitchen is also outfitted with a microwave, dishwasher, coffee pot, washer and dryer.

2,900 acre Long Lake, just a 9 minute drive from downtown Traverse City, is renowed for it's walleye and perch fishing and is one of the larger lakes in NW Michigan. 4 single seating kayaks and lifejackets are stored on site and ready for your use! Power boats, jet skis and pontoon boats are available at several area rentals to enable you to enjoy all the amenities this beautiful lake has to offer. Not in the least of which are the 4 islands with sandy beaches and hiking trails waiting to be explored. Two marked moorings are provided at the end of the dock to moor a boat overnight and extra parking is adjacent to the garage for boat trailer parking. The Long Lake boat launch is just minutes away as shown on the map.

The natural stone fire ring near the shore beckons to be used for an enjoyable evening of roasting smores while watching the sunsets. Private seating is available on the dock, also a hammock and extra seating throughout the lush lawn, as well as the patio chairs and tables. A gas grill and utensils also are on site to help provide quiet relaxation from a day of sight seeing, touring wineries/breweries, biking the trails, fishing, touring the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park, etc. No wonder National Geographic Magazine just voted the Grand Traverse area one of the top 10 family vacation spots in the world. Lakestone Cottage is the perfect home base for a week of exploring and playing hard with all that the area has to offer. (Or a sweet little hide-a-way for some quiet time.) Upon booking I can provide information on what will be happening throughout the area, as something is always going on!

All linens and full cooking and dining ware are included to enhance your stay. A full size grocery store is just 4 miles away and 2 queen size beds provide sleeping for 4.

One half down payment at time of reservation, balance due 30 days prior to stay.

June, July and August full week rentals only.

3 night minimum rest of the year. Note off-season special rates.

About Cathy Martin

Having married my Pontiac Central High School sweet heart we both had the same goal to escape the rat race and move "Up North". With both of us licensed builders there was plenty of opportunity to provide a good living and life style for our 3 Empire, Michigan born children. Living in rural Leelanau County, the "little finger" of Michigan required and instilled a good work ethic. Let alone all the firewood required to heat the house and shop and snowfall removal. Winter of 21012/13 set a record at 263 inches! In my early 60's I still stack cords of firewood and remove snow at both my house in Glen Arbor and Lakestone with a snow blower. Beats going to a gym:) I appreciate being busy, healthy and able to keep Lakestone in the family for the 4 grandchildren to visit and enjoy.

Cathy Martin purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Cathy Martin chose Northern Michigan

I would find myself "in town" grocery shopping in Traverse City weekly and admired the little stone cottage on Long Lake. In observing throughout the decades the quaint neighboring residences being torn down to build larger lakefront homes, there still remained the wonderful stone cottage! When the last of the cottage's original family moved out of the area and the house was put on the market, my husband and myself purchased it the following day. Little did we know he would pass away a few years later, leaving me a sweet little rental place to supplement my income. Lakestone Cottage is run and operated in a professional manner. My goal is to assure visitors an enjoyable, stress less stay. I enjoy doing all the communications, book keeping, cleaning and maintenance and have been blessed to have such wonderful guests.

What makes this cottage unique

Lakestone is on the "quiet" end of Long Lake. Pontoon and ski boats are used in the southern end but not jet skis and loud race boats. 4 of the islands are for public use with docking and trails throughout. The lake bottom is pure sand and very clean. The newer houses being built are located closer to the lakeshore but provide little, if any, yard for use. It is so nice to sit around the fire pit, under the oaks, while enjoying the sunsets with plenty of yard space for children and/or dogs and elbow room.

Great little cottage on the water. Absolutely loved the private dock and how quiet it was in the area. Would definitely recommend to anyone trying to get away for a quiet weekend! The cottage had everything we would possibly need from cooking utensils to bathroom amenities.

Great place to stay

Lovely cottage. The owners were wonderful and paid a lot of attention to detail to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. A great place to come home to after exploring the Traverse City area. The cottage was very homey and the sunsets were incredible. And we were able to bring our dogs along on this vacation which made it even more enjoyable. Our Goldendoodle loved swimming in the clean, clear, water.

Relaxing getaway

  • 4 of 5

Having never visited Traverse City, we weren't sure what to expect. This quaint cottage was perfect for relaxing. Clean and comfortable. A great view of the lake from the picture window in the living room. Cozy fires at night and comfortable beds for sleeping. 10 minutes from Traverse City downtown.

The photos on the website depict the cottage well.

My only complaint (and it's just something renters need to be aware of) is that this a dog friendly cottage and while we loved having our dog with us (who loves to walk), we had to walk 1/2 mile to the nature trail (on a busy road).

Lot's of good restaurants in Traverse City and especially liked the Jolly Pumpkin which is on the road to Mission Peninsula. Also had dinner at Boones on Long Lake (which is really an old fashioned supper club with great perch).

Owners were accommodating and responsive.

Relaxing long weekend getaway.

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend & I were in the area for a wedding & needed dog-friendly lodging. Lakestone Cottage was more than we expected & we were so sad that we were in town for only two nights! We wanted to stay longer so we could take advantage of everything that this place offered -- especially the lakefront amenities. The cottage was well-equipped with comfortable beds & a fully stocked kitchen, although we did not cook in the property. We chose to explore the local fare since we were only in town for a short time. It was a very quick 10 minute drive for us to downtown which was perfect for attending the wedding ceremony & reception, as well as meeting up with other friends who were in town. The next time we end up in the Traverse City area we will be reaching out to Catherine & Mark to see if their property is available. They were so easy to work with & so friendly!

Long Lake Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Our visit was very good. We truly enjoyed the view from the living room, the backyard, and the fire ring. We roasted marshmallows and just watched the fire after spending days shopping, beaches, site seeing. The water pressure wasn't so good but we made it okay. Had lots of fun and enjoyed Michigan very much.

very nice house, pretty lake

  • 5 of 5

Wife and I had great time! Dogs loved it 2. Nice place 2 swim right at dock, GREAT place 2 walk them right across the street, trails lead into city park trails. We all love south island 4 a walk/hike. I will caution U, lake has some unmarked shallow water. Check ariel photo to get an idea. We ran aground on south east shore, but luckly we were going slow.
