The BEST! Really.
Amazing property and hosts! Too many thoughtful touches to even try and list them. Suffice it to say, this home is set up to make your stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Book it, you won't regret it!
Great Retreat for Large Family
Sharon's place is well designed, decorated, and equipped. We are a family of 2 parents, six bigger kids, and a baby and we fit pretty well in the place thought 6 kids shared one bathroom and that was doable because the layout of the bathroom separates the shower and toilet from the sink. The toddler was pretty safe there though the wire wrungs of the back patio gave us the jitters the first day or so.
We rented a pontoon boat for 2 days and held our own family triathalon. We took the boat out 300 meters and made the kids swim to the doc, bike 2 miles, and run 2 miles. The neighbors were super friendly and curious about what we were doing with our measuring wheel and cones!
We also played soccer in the huge back yard, played in the lake, fished all day one day, went kayaking, had s'mores, watched some of the movies in the dvd collection, and hung a hammock.
We used the heck out of the kitchen. It really has everything - crock pots, corn pot, baking sheets, tons of bowls, gadgets, utensils, grill. We made 3 meals per day for all of us. So It was a ton of work. After the first day I had to switch up my meal planning a little because I am used to a double oven. So I started planning on using the single oven plus either the propane grill (which works great) or the crockpot. There's no hood over the electric range, so I didn't go crazy with stove-top cooking. Bottom line: you can feed a crew in this place!
We were there in the first week of August. The lake was shallow and the bottom was very silty, which my urban kids thought was super yucky. So they spent some time jumping off the dock next door, which has much deeper water. Our dock did have water deep enough for the pontoon boat we rented for a few days.
This lake area must be one of the best kept secrets in the country. The lake is huge, clean, still, and empty. We tried to go for a hike in the land between the lakes, but the guides and maps weren't the best, we probably missed the trailhead and did a few miles on what was not even a real path, I think. So you might want to use some hiking apps or a hiking book - really do your homework.
We did an overnight trip to Nashville during the week we were here. We could have done that as a day trip.
We had a great stay - enjoyed the lake - this house is well decorated, has high quality finishes and is full of everything you need.
Love this place
This was our third visit to Kentucky Deer Run Cabin, each time we have invited family and everyone has enjoyed the comfort, the Lake and relaxing atmosphere. Totally lovely get away!
Good family vacation spot
Location was good for a family stay & the house was well stocked with dishes, cookware and a grill if you choose to eat in. Good access to the lake with marina's close by for renting a boat or other watercraft. Access was easy for getting to the local towns, activities and Land Between the Lakes. Only drawback (which was clear with the listing) is two of the rooms have twin beds. Since we had three married adult couples we had to move two twin beds together and use king sheets.
(Several small local businesses only accept cash, so make sure you have some)
Great stay with family and friends!
The property was as described and very well stocked - better than any other vacation rental! Every detail was thought of in order to make our stay very enjoyable and Sharon checked in to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The ping pong and corn hole games were lors of fun. The washer/dryer were very convenient. The lake location was wonderful, and we spent every morning on the deck enjoying the view of the lake. The dock was perfect for the pontoon. We will definitely be back!! Thank you Sharon!!
A March vacation to remember
Had a family vacation with my brother. And the things to laugh about for years. The owner had a new garage keypad installed before we arrived and we could not get in. Sharon gave us the new code and the journey began. The lake had been lowered leaving our dock in the mud, but we were able to borrow the dock next door. One of the kayaks unbeknown to us had a small hole. About fifty feet off shore, paddling cannot be dripping that much into the kayak. Better head to shore, made it in when water was hip deep. It makes for a great though cold story. Sharon was nice and even mailed a dish that got left behind.
