Casa Catalina is fantastic.
A very warm, charming and comfortable home with an wonderful cook (Sara). The owner is extremely generous and accommodating . The location could hardly be better and opens up to the magical place that San Miguel de Allende can be. Our third time staying there and we look forward to returning.
We loved our time at Casa Catalina
A beautiful welcoming property and staff. We would return again and again, and recommend highly to anyone thinking of visiting the area. Wonderfully decorated rooms with a traditional Mexican feeling. All of the indoor and outdoor area are worth spending time in. The roof top areas are brilliant for a morning coffee, an afternoon soak in the sun with a book, or an evening drink under the stars. Exceeded all of our expectations.
A beautiful colonial home in the historic district that is close to everything
What the pictures don’t fully capture is how serene and relaxing the experience is at Casa Catalina. The minute you walk in the door you hear the sound of the fountain in one of the two inner courtyards, and often the cooing of doves. The greatest challenge is trying to decide where to relax — in one of the courtyards or on one of the rooftop gardens, or inside the lovely home. The house is gracious, beautifully furnished and comfortable in every detail. It is also easy to walk to the main square and many of the best restaurants. The WiFi was temperamental but that just meant we hade more time to enjoy the sunset view, the beautiful architecture and colonial history that surrounded us. We will gladly return.
Amazing house with beautiful rooftop garden
Casa Catalina was beautiful. The pictures do not do it justice. The wonderful Spanish architecture and attention to detail in the furniture and art made our vacation to San Miguel even more special. It was quiet yet so close to everything. We woke up every morning at dawn to see the sun rise and view the parade of hot air balloons overhead.
If all this was not enough our cook Sara was a delight. True Mexican cooking for two weeks. Her key lime pie is not to be missed, although my husband would say it's her mole sauce.
We cannot wait to return to Casa Catalina and San Miguel.
Classy, tranquil setting, a short walk from the best SMA has to offer
Recommended to us by friends as the perfect place to stay while visiting San Miguel de Allende, Casa Catalina did not disappoint. It is a slightly uphill 5 to 10 minute walk to El Jardin, the start of almost all of the exploration routes in this very walkable city. During the warm days, the tiled interior, set around two internal gardens, is a cool and peaceful refuge. On chilly nights, the gas fires in each room provide cozy comfort. It has all of the comforts of home - without the stress of maintaining it.
While it was just my wife and I on this visit, the Casa can comfortably hold three couples without feeling in the least bit crowded. Bedrooms are made up and cleaned almost daily by the housekeeper and a cook is there most mornings, ready and willing to purchase groceries and prepare breakfasts, lunches, or simply salsas and guacamole for that afternoon glass of wine on the roof top patio garden. Talk about pampered!
We had no problems with the filtered water system in the house and no shortage of hot water for showers. Street noise was occasionally noticeable but not intrusive.
Cathy, the owner, contacted us soon after arrival to make sure that we had everything we needed and was very responsive when a minor problem occurred (our front gate lock jammed).
All in all, Casa Catalina was exactly as advertised and we would highly recommend it.
Warm, Relaxing and Beautiful Getaway
We and two other couples enjoyed this past week in San Miguel de Allende while staying at the charming and lovely Casa Catalina. It is beautifully decorated with elegant furnishings, wonderful light fixtures, gorgeous Talavera pottery and delightful artwork. We were tended to by the extraordinary staff who made us breakfast every morning and had comida for us on all but a couple of days when the schedule dictated eating out for flexibility. They also kept the home and grounds immaculate and were about the most pleasant folks we have ever encountered in our many trips to SMA. This property is a jewel and is well located in the town for easy access to the Jardin, the Mercado, art galleries and award-winning restaurants. We will definitely go back and are already trying to organize our next trip in a couple of months.
Amy, thank you so much for your kind words. The staff and I are so happy you and your guests enjoyed your stay and are excited for the opportunity to see you again!!
San Miguel de Allende is a walking town, well-known for its many galleries, shops, antique stores, music, exhibits, and festivals. Take language, art, or cooking classes at the various institutes. For golfers, there are excellent courses, including one designed by Jack Nicklaus. Tennis players can enjoy competing on several clay courts around town. Located a few minutes from town, the natural hot springs are a unique and wonderful place to relax.
