'Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you... while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.' ~ John Muir
'The Crest' features a scenic gentle drive to a spacious parking area that is level with the cottage, located at an elevation of 3200 feet. From your car, you are only a few steps from the covered porch. You will enter a spacious living area and are immediately surrounded by large windows with spectacular views of nature and the surrounding mountains. Unpack, light the gas fireplace and you won't want to leave!
Our 'smoke-free' and 'pet friendly' cottage is close to the historic charm of Blowing Rock and the growing college town of Boone. Yet just outside your door lie 12 acres to roam, deer and wild turkeys. On the adjoining National Forest property is Hebron Falls, with a bold stream to follow, or a huge bolder to just sit on and fish. Sound wonderful? ....It is!
The front and large back covered porches are great places to enjoy the brisk mornings, warm afternoons, and cool evenings, with a special cup of coffee and an enjoyable book from our reading library. The surrounding sounds of nature may lull you into a restful afternoon nap.
'The Crest' is peaceful and restful, offering a sense of solitude, not isolation. You will experience a major 'change- of-pace' while you enjoy nature, get away from the rush of your work week, and feel energized and revitalized.
Sorry, but we can not guarantee that you will feel ready to return home!

We all love the Blue Ridge Mountains!
Judith Adams purchased this cottage in 2000
Western North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains have always been a part of both of our early years. In later years, married with children, we vacationed each summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was a welcome escape from the Florida heat. During those vacations periods, we spent time searching for our 'own place'. An opportunity presented itself one summer, when were walking some acreage which we owned and discovered that 'The Crest,' was available and ready for a new beginning.
We have since spent time remodeling and making improvements. It is a special place for us to escape when opportunity permits. As we are not there as often as we would like to be, we enjoy having others visit! Many of our 'repeat friends' refer to 'The Crest' as 'our mountain home' when they return to visit each summer.
'The Crest' is an experience of peace and serenity. The beauty of nature is inspiring and the walk on the drive is just what my soul yearns for, after months of city life and school teaching. In fact, when the pace gets tough, I visualize the front porch, a rocking chair, a cool breeze with the sound of the wind in the trees, and the forest view down the drive. It is a great place to be and instills peace and tranquility.
We enjoyed our time at your Crest immensely ! The weather was lovely! We really enjoyed Grandfather Mt & Mast General Store. We rode parts of B R parkway. We adored The Gamekeeper & Vidalias in Boone. But the BEST part was drinking coffee on your perfect porch each morning at a COOOL 62 degrees & watching the ethereal sunsets over the mt each night. What a treat!!
Your Amy was a HUGE help& we appreciate her so very much. We are delighted that we found your Crest & YOU!! our best
The Crest was all it was represented to be and more. We were there 10 Aug 2009 - 17 Aug 2009, and it was a wonderful experience. The temperatures in the daytime were in the mid to lower 70's. A nice esca[e from the 101 temperature forcast for the 10th back home. The views were excellent. Activities in the area can fit any ages. Sitting on the deck watching the sunrise, hearing the birds chirp, seeing the deer, was a wonderful experience and will long be remembered by all of us. This is a serene and peaceful place to spend a vacation. We look forward to returning. To the Adam's, thanks for sharing........ Our only disappointment was leaving.
WOW! What a great 2 weeks we spent at "The Crest". The house was perfect for 4 of us and our 12 year old dog with bad hips....just 4 steps in and out of the house. The house was clean, well stocked and the view was spectacular. The covered deck was great so even with the rain we were able to enjoy the view and the deck. We had a family of deer almost everyday in the driveway and bunnies in the back yard. And walking the very long gravel driveway and road was a good way to stay in shape for all of us. A really good location in between the 3 towns made it easy to explore the whole area. Everything is about 20 minutes away. Thank you very much for helping us have a wonderful vacation.
The property is at the highest point of the mountain with an ever ending breeze. So sleeping on the comfortable bed was delightful. Mostly spent our time in the cozy living room and porch when not traveling about. We had a great dinner with family at Bistro Roca in Blowing Rock. The mile and a half drive up the mountain was a little challenging. It reminded me of going to Positano from Rome where we lived. Our favorite luncheon place in Fosco was. Eat Crow. We also could buy their delicious food frozen to take home. Desserts as well.Near by we shopped at Maws for fruit, veggies, homemade jams and chess pie. Maws so sells homemade crafts upstairs. Everyone there is very helpful. We spent a day in Valle Crusis. Lunched there as well. Shopping on 105 is very convenient.
The weather had stopped us from venturing forth, but the relaxation was very desireable.
At the house we did a lot if reading during the rainy spells. Classical music on an excellent radio station. Everything was very clean.
What a beautiful home and an equally beautiful location. We enjoyed our stay in this home away from home. The Crest is well stocked with everything you need for your stay, not only kitchen items, but games and puzzles too. I would highly recommend staying at The Crest. Judith was wonderful to work with, answered my many questions in a timely manner. Next time we come to the Boone area we will be staying at The Crest.
Coming back to the low lands (Florida) after 2 weeks at “The Crest” is almost too depressing to talk about. But I feel we must share what a wonderful and exciting experience we had there, (even though I secretly would like to keep it to myself). As has been written before, the views from “The Crest” are beautiful! Joe and I looked forward EVERY afternoon, after hours looking for our own piece of Zion (land), to having a cocktail and appetizers in the backyard. Very therapeutic!
The home has a warm, comfortable, and very inviting feel to it. We never lacked for anything, Ingles groceries was only 5 miles away toward Boone and Lowes Foods in Banner Elk is about 7 miles in the other direction. Lowes was our favorite grocery store. It has a GREAT wine section and the steak selection was second to none, especially on sale!
We NEVER missed not having HBO or Netflix to entertain us, the local stations were just fine! However, I will say my husband and I both bought our laptop and all-in-one computer to search for properties and to keep current on certain events (wireless internet was great). BTW, the up-stairs loft made an excellent command center! Very open concept with a table and 4 chairs, and if you have children, they would love the cowboy theme twin beds, very cute!
Joe and I did walk to Hebron Falls which is down the road from this home, (take the first left where the sign is for Woodridge. It’s a very pretty stream, make sure you have good hiking shoes though.
Joe thoroughly enjoyed cooking on the new grill, I’m pretty sure we used it every night.
All in all we loved our stay at the Crest, Judy is a very gracious and helpful Hostess! We are counting the days when we can get away and come back to the CREST!
All the best,
Joe and Trish
What a respite from the Mississippi heat and a lovely place to spend our 50th Wedding Anniversary. The Crest is serene and restoring! That porch stilled our minds & souls as we drank coffee each morning and sipped wine at sunset. Comfort and convenience describe the interior. Judith, you thought of everything! Thank you for sharing this unforgettable retreat with us! Also, our compliments to your Amy who was a terrific help! Our favorite dining was The GameKeeper & Vidalias in Boone. We took in Grandfather Mt., Valle Crucis and adored Blowing Rock shopping!

VRBO, HomeAway, and FlipKey now charge guests a high service fee, in addition to the high fee that I already pay for being included on their website. This is new, as Expedia is running things. I deal directly with my guests and am able to avoid this fee. I encourage you to check out a new vacation home rental website called HomeEscapes. They get all money through advertising; they are friendly to the owner and the guest.

Linens and towels for larger groups are provided for an additional fee of $40.00. Please advise if you would like to bring your own linens.
