Scenic Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was exactly as described and more. It accommodated several family members gathering for a family reunion and 90th BD. The cabin allowed for 3 different groups (loft, main level and lower level) to sleep comfortably. The large deck accommodated additional family members who came to visit and enjoy the spectacular scenery. We saw deer, turkeys and rabbits close to the cabin. The nights were perfect for star gazing, seeing shooting stars and satellites. The last night we watched a lightning storm in the distance providing a panaramic light show. The owners were accommodating and quick to respond. Thank you for a great week.

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin--property is adjacent to Wind Cave National Park and is very peaceful. Great views, lots of wildlife. Perfect location to explore the southern black hills area. Beds were comfy, kitchen area was well equipped and we used the grill quite a bit. Family enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub in the late evenings, playing the Wii and sitting on the deck. It was a perfect size for our family of 6. Thank you to the Lutz family for letting us rent their lovely home.

Awesome wind cave experience

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at wind cave cabin. Wind Cave National Park has amazing views, great wildlife and enjoyable hikes. Cabin was clean and comfortable. Perfect home base for day trips to Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis and Lead. Would have liked to have had both bathrooms with showers. Would consider booking same cabin in future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review! We are glad that you enjoyed Wind Cave National Park and the cabin. We are considering adding a shower option upstairs, but it will take some structural changes and planning. Hope you can stay again sometime.

Need more than a week!

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice vacation here. Whoever placed this cabin at it's location was really thinking. perfect exposure morning sun, and through out the day. We did a lot, ATV riding, horseback, Mammoth exhibit, cave tours, Hiking, and we could have stayed longer and not been board. I'm probably bias as this resembles my cabin in Northern MN as I really liked it. Like everything nothing is 100% perfect. My recommendation would be to update the grill, it was a little rough, and a dishwasher would be nice, but we had the right cookware, (had issues with other rentals) the hot tub was nice, secluded with a view of the park. the Garage was handy when it rained the first night when a storm blew in. I would stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review! We love the cabin and its location also! We will take another look at the grill, thank you for letting us know. We have thought about a dishwasher, but the not sure about giving up kitchen space. We have found that doing a few dishes helps us have some good conversations too! Hope that you can stay with us again!

Exactly as described in property description

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here and found everything described and promised before our arrival to be exactly as expected. Cabin was clean and basic necessities provided on site. We enjoyed the night time moon rise with the full moon while we were there very relaxing from the new deck and the morning cups of coffee out there were also great while watching deer roam, wild turkeys on the move and other wild life right in front of the cabin and Bison roaming freely just down the road. View of the wooded rolling hills also nice. Hot tub was clean and also enjoyed, beds clean and comfortable and over all a great experience. Cabin is off the main road far enough for peace and quiet and yet right in the back yard of Wind Cave Park and not a bad drive to any other of our destinations as well. Worth a second look if you want a good place to stay in the beautiful Southern Black Hills. Check this one out !!

Close to all the attractions of the Black Hills including Mt. Rushmore and just a few minutes drive on pavement to Hot Springs. The House borders Wind Cave Park with cave tours, incredible wild life including buffalo, elk, deer, eagles and prairie dogs. Many of these animals you will see right from the house depending on the season. It is a Short drive to Custer State Park, Angostura Reservoir and The Wild Horse Sanctuary. These all have good web sites so be sure to check them out. Hot Springs has everything you will need, grocery stores, restaurants, discount stores, unique shopping, warm water spas, golf, and historic sandstone buildings. The town is safe and beautiful just 4 miles from the house on pavement. Check out my favorite, The Mammoth Site (an ongoing archaeological dig of the Woolly Mammoth) Also in Hot Springs is Evans Plunge a natural hot water, Water Park.
