About Mary Ann Badovinac

Our family of five has enjoyed visiting and playing at the cabin for over twenty-five years. We moved to Atlanta, Ga. to be closer to the cabin and share our love of nature with our 3 children. We hike, swim, fish, kayak and enjoy sharing our cabin with friends and guests.

Mary Ann Badovinac purchased this cabin in 1984

Why Mary Ann Badovinac chose Highlands

We bought this cabin because it is next door to our family cabin of 54 years. Enjoying the cool summer weather and outdoor activities this area has to offer has been our summer fun for as long as I can remember.

What makes this cabin unique

Our home was originally owned by an artist couple who designed it after their loft in Paris. They became close family friends. When we bought the cabin we expanded it, trying to keep the light airy feeling of the original cabin. From our decks we view a variety of wildlife and birds. At night we only hear the sounds of the bullfrogs in the lake. So peaceful.

Fun, Quirky Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Fun, quirky cabin! Loved the living area, kitchen and porch! Wish there had been a stand up shower downstairs. Worked okay for two couples, luckily we are close friends since some of the sleeping areas are so open. Loved, loved the overall design and closeness to town! Wish we could have seen more of the lake from the porch but loved the view from the dock!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your positive review of the cabin! The bathtub downstairs is a jacuzzi and feels so great on aching muscles. Hope you enjoyed it! The cabin was designed by two artists based on their apartment in Paris! Mary Ann

Great for large family, bathroom issues for 2 couples

  • 4 of 5

Pros: Wonderful location, quiet, spotlessly clean, comfortable and incredibly well equipped.

Cons: one bathroom downstairs, off master bedroom, no shower, just jacuzzi. One bathroom upstairs by loft "bedrooms" had the only shower and its only ventilation was windows.

The downstairs beds were firm and comfortable and upstairs were soft and not so comfortable. We loved everything about this place except the location of bathrooms, which essentially precluded both couples using the downstairs bedrooms.

We were in Highlands for the Summer Chamber Music Festival, which was fabulous.

Owner's Response: The bathroom downstairs has a separate entrance from the living area. One does not have to go through a bedroom to get into the bathroom.

Wedding travel

  • 3 of 5

My one big complaint was the two upstairs bedrooms offered no privacy. The upstairs is a loft with an enclosed bathroom. There are no walls around the "bedrooms" This was an issue for us and I would not have chosen if I knew. If privacy is not a concern, I recommend this house.

Owner's Response: The description of this cabin is: 2 bedrooms downstairs with 2 upstairs bedrooms in a large loft. The pictures of the two upstairs bedrooms are described as being in a loft. This guest spoke with me and told me she knew the bedrooms upstairs were in a loft, but thought the loft bedrooms were enclosed. The definition of a loft is an open area. I found three other cabins for her party to rent which met their needs, and offered to refund her rent. She declined the offer.

Cabin by the lake!

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful, well maintained, clean and well stocked cabin! We were in Highlands for my nephew's wedding so the iron, laundry and roomy house was perfect! The upper loft is perfect for kids; it lacks privacy for adults. We enjoyed the huge deck and had a roaring fire in the fireplace - especially enjoyable for these South Floridians!

Beautiful cabin in the woods, close to many activities

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights at the cabin and we loved it! It was beautiful and well stocked. We forgot to bring the internet access code but we didn't need it because there is so much to do! We enjoyed just sitting on the porch or pier in the evenings after a busy day sightseeing. I would definitely recommend this property.

Anniversary get a way

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to Highlands for the past 17 years. We love the Highlands area and we love this house. This is our second time staying here and definitely plan to return next year. The house has everything you need including a fully stocked kitchen, plenty of towels and fire wood. I love having a washer and dryer because we are able to go home with clean clothes.

We highly recommend this house.
