About Jim and Lynne Manner

We currently live in the front house of the property and have been in our home since 1982. We found this lovely property on the way to a Charger game and couldn't resist the custom Spanish style of this 1920's era two on one. We started out renting and we were fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase the property. We were even more fortunate to be married in the back yard; all six kids and one happy St. Bernard. We both grew up elsewhere in California, but we met in San Diego and have lived in our home for 30+ years and can not imagine leaving. The back house (casita) was a rental when we bought and was kept as a rental for most of our time here. Recently, we remodeled and upgraded the cottage into the casita.

Jim and Lynne Manner purchased this studio in 1983

Why Jim and Lynne Manner chose University Heights

We bought here because our work was nearby and schools for our children were close. We are now retired and our children have left the roost. Our home is situated right in the middle of everything that is inviting in San Diego. Neighborhood restaurants and coffee houses are within four blocks. We are very close to high-end shopping malls, the Gaslamp District downtown, Balboa Park, the Zoo, beaches, ball parks, and just 1+ hour from the beautiful and very quaint historic mountain town of Julian.

What makes this studio unique

The casita is located in a quiet neighborhood that is walking friendly and very close to freeway access in all directions as well as public transportation.

Better Than A Hotel

  • 5 of 5

This was my 2nd time to stay at the Casita Studio and I loved it even more than I did the first time. We were in San Diego for a week, however the Casita was only available for the 3 of the days we were going to be there and then we moved to a Hotel and even though the Hotel was on the beach there was no comparison that the Casita was so much nicer to stay at with all the conveniences of home. Jim and Lynne are great hosts, they have a beautiful landscaped yard you can enjoy along with a couple of awesome dogs for entertainment and the Casita is beautifully decorated and supplied. We will be back again.

Cute casita

  • 5 of 5

We spend a few nights here and despite poor weather managed to have a marvellous time in San Diego . The casita is located close to a fabulous tapas bar and groceries stores. It is an easy drive to th city sites and the welcome wine was a lovely touch.

My own little casita paradise

  • 5 of 5

One of my favorite things to do when exploring new places, is to stay at VRBO options whenever possible, so I write this review with some experience :). This truly is a top three stay of all VRBO's! Everything is so well labeled, and thought through. While the neighborhood is very walkable, and you could do an 'uber only' trip, the parking spot right off the alley and next to the casita was a godsend. I sadly did not get a chance to meet Jim or Lynne during my busy few days there, but I hope to some day with a return visit!

Very nice, clean, comfortable stay!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Jim and Lynne’s casita. It was well stocked with everything we needed and more. The homemade cookies, bottle of wine, and a few drinks in the refrigerator was appreciated. The casita was close to everything in San Diego. We enjoyed taking a few minutes to relax in the backyard garden, which was quite and peaceful. The bed was super comfy. The bathroom was small, but certainly doable. This place will be our “go to place” when visiting the area.

What a great place!

  • 5 of 5

The Casita was a terrific find for us! The photos and descriptions given on VRBO are completely accurate but cannot describe the cozy, warm welcome that awaited us as soon as we opened the door. The casita is decorated and equipped with great care and pride and lacks for nothing. A comfortable bed, lots of towels, a well furnished kitchen, even a little cooler in which to take a lunch on a hike or to the beach. And everything was remarkably clean!

We truly enjoyed the convenience of parking right by the door since parking in the area can be a challenge if not impossible. The neighborhood itself was delightful. Very safe and walkable with many ethnic restaurants within an easy distance.

We had a limited time in San Diego but enjoyed Balboa Park, the zoo, Torrey Pines Reserve and Mission Trails Park. We know there is much more to see and do and so already have plans to return. There is no question about where we will stay next year!

Thanks for everything, Lynne and Jim!
