Moclips was our summer home since the I was 14 years old! Years and years of memories and fun. Hazels Beach House was built on the property that used to have the small family cabin which held fond memories, but needed to be replaced. I hired a builder from Ocean Shores, and spent a year coming down weekends helping him build this great house, which was the first new house on this stretch of land in many, many years!
Danille or Tammy purchased this house in 1988
'Hazels', named after a much loved Mother, was built for Hazel by her son for her vacation get-away in her twilight years. This home saw many happy times with family and friends until her passing in 2000. It is our expressed desire to share our little piece of heaven with others. We know the magic we had for years is there for you to enjoy.
This stretch of road in Moclips is one of the only truly ocean front properties on the Washington coast. When we say, we are ocean front, we mean it. Winter high tide is only only 50 - 75 short feet away - closer if we have a really great winter storm! The beach is quite, and so safe that you can relax on the deck and watch the kids playing on the beach! Your own little piece of heaven!
The home is clean and has an outstanding view of the ocean. The kids played in the sand right outside the window. We took lots of walks on the shore and had a generally relaxing time. Unfortunately, the hot tub was around 75 degrees, and we never figured out how to raise the temperature. There are instructions posted on the fridge showing little up and down arrows, but apparently those instructions are for a hottub with up and down arrows. Their hot tub does not have up and down arrows. Another problem was that we were six people, but there were not enough chairs for us to sit at the table together, so some of us ate at the kitchen bar with our backs to the others. The bedding and living room furniture is very nice. My parents found the bed in their room was broken, so my dad had to found some boards under the deck, and he stuffed them under the bed to hold it up.
We loved Hazel's and I would go back in a minute. We spent four days and allowed our daughters to bring friends for the first time. The kids loved it and wished we could have stayed longer. We were steps from the beach and could see the kids from the deck when they were on the beach. Perfect for our dog. Hard to find a good place that will take dogs. House was clean and neat. I would agree with the other August reviewer that something needs to be done about the WiFi or it should not be listed as a service. We have T-mobile and were told that T-Mobile and Sprint do not work in Moclips. (We didn't get service again until Aberdeen). WiFi was spotty at best and not reliable. I could not call, but could receive email. We had car issues and had to use the phone at the motel. Since there is no house phone, the WiFi issue needs some attention. The kitchen is not equipped for gourmet cooking, but for simple things it was fine. (and simple is what I wanted on vacation!). We brought simple things and enjoyed the beach. Agree the pillows need replacing and we were not given sheets for the hide-a bed, but used the ones left out to cover the furniture due to our dog. One bed was great, the other kind of squishy so we gave that to the kids. Wish the deck had a gate at the stairs to keep dog on deck. Overall, we loved it. It is quiet and peaceful. Lots of room to walk. We were not looking for entertainment, but a chance to unwind and play. The listing had said there was a futon in the living room along with the pull out, but there was not when we got there. It worked out okay and I see the description has now been changed. The hide-a bed needs to be replaced, but I've never slept on one that is comfortable!! The house is decorated with such care and fun touches. Wish the kitchen table would seat 6 since you can sleep six, but we just had two of us sit at the bar. The hot tub was wonderful as it was cool outside during our visit. There needs to be a net or way to skim extra sand out of it. We tried very hard, but sand still ended up in it. The rental folks were all wonderful. Made this very easy. I would say our experience was 98% positive and we would return. Just please fix the WiFi and we would be so happy to come back (probably would anyway!). Perfect spot for us. So enjoyed our stay. Know that larger stores are not close by. The Country Store is good in a pinch, but expensive and more like a gas station hop in market.
This house is a good place to go if you want to get away from everything. The house has had some updates (nice bathroom) and is mostly clean and comfortable. Though the kitchen could use some updating (pots, pans, appliances), there was much to make use of. I was very impressed with the amount of convenience items that were provided: everything from laundry detergent to shampoo. The hot tub is nice and kept very clean (though not all controls work properly). It was great to have a washer and dryer in the house.
I highly recommend the take-and-bake pizza and cinnamon rolls at the nearby Moclips Country Store (one of the few places nearby to get supplies).
The listing needs to be updated so that wireless internet is removed! Not only was there no internet, apparently there never has been. We also had no cell phone service within at least 5 miles of the house.
The beds were not comfortable, especially the pullout couch (which was obviously previously used in a hotel, and which had springs popping up to poke anyone who tried to lay on it). Also, the pillows seriously need to be replaced: they are as flat as a pack of paper, and hard.
The beach is nice to look at from inside the house, but is one of the most desolate places I've ever been to. The walk across the sand from the dunes to the water was nearly 1/4 mile over nothing but sand, dead crabs, and broken sand dollars. Unlike other nearby beaches, there were no rocks or dead trees for kids to climb on or build with. Some days, the fog was so thick you couldn't see more than 5 feet.
This was our first time renting this beach property, and we were amazed at how wonderfully clean and comfortable everything was! From the fully stocked with appliances kitchen, the bathroom that was nicer than ours at home, the comfy cozy bedrooms, the amazing view from the deck, the hot tub and living quarters... it was all just SO amazing and we will be back again for sure! The neighborhood is very quiet, the beach in front of the cabin is 'off limits' to cars between June and Labor Day, making it near solitude for walks, building sand forts, bird watching and beach combing! We brought the family, unplugged from our electronics, reconnected over old fashioned board games (of which there's a great selection in one of the bedroom closets) and really didn't want to ever leave!! That's why we will be back again and again. Thank you Hazel's Beach House...you are our new favorite retreat!
From the minute we arrived myself and my mother in law it felt such a peace and pleasure in the house it self and the most wonderful view. While there it was overcast but no matter I had a wonderful soak in the hot tub located right on deck in full view of the wonderful beach. Inside my mother in law had the gas fireplace going. It was a great place for my mom in law and I to get back in touch which was big I rceccomend Hazel's Beach House to one and all there are plenty of board games to keep everyone happy if you need to stay in but the beach right out the door is the best castle building sand ever. I give the place a overall 5 star.
I like to go to Hazels in the fall. The weather can be great, or not. I bring my quilting projects and set up on the dining room table. I can enjoy the wonderful views, and when it's nice outside, I walk the beach. Otherwise, I continue my projects in the cozy warmth of the house. Even when it's raining outside, the view is unbeatable. The house itself is clean and well-kept. The hot tub felt nice on cooler evenings. The pictures themselves don't do justice to the view in the front room/kitchen/dining room. I would recomend this to anyone.
Sit on the deck, and watch the kids playing on the beach - which is only feet away. The beach is full of fun, kite flying, beach combing, build sandcastles, ride bikes on the beach and Razor clam dig (when in season). Great walks through the woods right around the neighborhood and Moclips River... find your way to Moclips own 'Narnia'!
Moclips is just a short drive to the Quinault Rain Forest. A beautiful day trip! South of us is Ocean Shores, where you can ride horses on the beach, take the kids miniature golfing, rent go-carts or mopeds, visit the Casino and try your luck! Tahola Indian Reservation is just 5 miles north and a great place to buy fresh seafood! Clam dig and crab in season right out front!
