Worst short vacation my wife and I have ever experienced

  • 1 of 5

Gee, where do I begin. The Dish TV was really glitchy. Universal remote without directions. Smoke alarm began blaring without any cooking taking place. No shut off button. I'm a retired Electrician, so I was able to stand on a kitchen chair and disconnect the hard wiring. Discovered the alarm had no battery back up. If you're staying there and the power fails and the Cottage catches fire, Better Hope You Wake Up! My wife called the owners and they wanted to know if it was O.K. to Wait Until the Date we were leaving before they fixed it! In other words No Smoke Alarm for 3 nights. Unbelievable! No Smoke Alarm above each bedroom door. Also a California Fire Code Violation. No Carbon Monoxide detector or alarm, which is required when any gas appliance is present in the home. The Ionization chamber in the Smoke Alarm was covered in dust. Thus the false alarm. This is an owner maintenance responsibility. Someone did show up the next day and clean it. I'm reporting these issues to the County Fire Marshall for correction. My wife and I decided to take advantage of the Hot Tub. Like the TV, no operating instructions. WE LEFT 2 Days Early! We didn't feel safe in the cottage. If it were possible to rate this Cottage with 1/2 star, I would. My suggestion. Stay Somewhere Else!

Just perfect and so relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

This home had everything we needed and more which made our stay so relaxing. The patio was so quiet and offer a table for eating dinners, adirondack chairs for sipping wine and a hammock for naps. Loved the telescope on the railing to catch a bit of the ocean among the gorgeous trees. If we ever vacation in northern California again this home will be our FIRST choice, loved it!!!

Wonderful cottage and wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 days and 3 nights over a weekend at the cabin. The cottage was immaculately clean and was well-stocked with all the kitchen appliances, plates, etc. you need. They even had various spices and cooking oils remaining from previous guests. The hot tub was wonderful. The cottage has a large flat-screen TV with a selection of movies. The ambiance in the wooded area with a view of the ocean in the distance was very relaxing.

The owner provided a parking pass for the nearby private beach area at the end of the road, which was very convenient. We enjoyed hikes along the coast and a few day trips around the area (kayaking and swimming in the nearby Gualala river.

We highly recommend the cabin for a relaxing and/or romantic weekend (or weeklong!) getaway.

Cozy, quiet and peaceful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

I spent a wonderful week at the Surf Breaker. I was looking to get away from the hectic life and work, to retreat into the nature and unwind. The Surf Breaker was very conducive to this goal! It's cozy, cute, warm and has everything one needs. It felt like home. I really enjoyed sitting out on the patio, relaxing in the hammock, listening to birds and seals, watching the squirrels and all the beautiful lush nature around, with ocean glistening on the horizon. Miss it! It was great to have a hot tub and a fireplace, especially during chilly evenings. There are lots of good DVDs to watch. Internet worked better in the bedroom and on the patio. As for venturing out, there are some great spots without having to drive too far - Manchester beach was awesome, long and beautiful, a great place to hike for miles; there is a romantic secluded beach just 10 minutes west, just to name a few. Overall, a great experience!
