Tavira Villa Rental Photos and Description

Large villa with private pool and two huge reception terraces

Casa Funda is a large, elegant villa with private pool and terraces sitting on 6000sq metres (roughly 1 acre) of grounds with olive, carob, orange and lemon trees, bougainvillea, palms and yuccas. The property has 5 bedrooms, ALL WITH AIR CONDITIONING ( a small charge will be made if used extensively), one of which is a studio flat complete with second kitchen and bathroom, attached to the property but with separate entrance. The studio is never let separately. The main house and its 4 bedrooms all have brand new (2015) mosquito screens. In the main house there is a large drawing room with flat screen TV, patio doors to terraces and pool, separate dining room for 12 also with patio doors, fully fitted kitchen, master bedroom w/ queen sized bed, patio doors + en suite bathroom , family bedroom with double and single bed and en suite bathroom and two twin bedded rooms. There is a third bathroom downstairs. The studio flat, with its own terrace and very distant views to the sea, has a large bathroom, a fitted kitchen and 3 single beds .

After buying the house we embarked on a huge landscaping programme and created a second,large, terraced dining area away from the pool and the noise for reading, siestas, etc. We have further landscaped the garden, adding a fountain/pond feature in local stone, with goldfish, and planting more fruit trees, bamboo, bougainvillea etc. There is a once-a-week gardening service and the pool is serviced twice a week in the high season.

We have already upgraded the house by installing air conditioning, a huge flat screen television, internet access upon request, new curtains etc. In the Spring of 2011 all fittings in all 4 bathrooms were renewed. In 2015 I had screens put in for all the windows and doors downstairs.

About Ursula Higham

My husband, I and our teenage son rented this property in 2008, fell in love with it and bought it in 2009. We live near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire. My husband, who died very unexpectedly in September 2012, was an English lawyer and I am half German, half Hungarian,, born in NY and fluent in German, English and French. My son has just finished Leeds University and is now working in London. We had a much-loved English cocker spaniel and now have a three legged equally loved golden labrador. I try and spend most of June and two weeks in September at Casa Funda, mostly taking friends down with me.

Having spent a week in this house on a 'last minute.com' type holiday, we so loved the house that we decided to buy it. It is generous, spacious and had, and hopefully has, a happy feel to it. It IS a family home. It is also ideally located for Tavira and the beach...

What makes this villa unique

Its greatest benefit, and why we fell in love with it, is its design: there is a very large, generous drawing room AND dining room, with the bedrooms off these rooms on either side. In addition there is the separate, but attached, studio flat. So three families can be there without falling on top of each other. The two huge terraces also create a feeling of privacy.

We have always had a 5 star rating. One reviewer loved the house and gave it a 1, thinking that was the highest honour. Unfortunately she misunderstood the rating system, and her 1 instead of 5 reduced our average to 4.5 (if you read the reviews you will see!)

I hope to try to return to the Algarve again next year, so we will keep a keen eye on Casa Funda's availability.



I hope everything was ok with the Villa following our stay. Tavira has definitely become busier since we were there last...in 2009! The landscaping you have had done is very nice and of course the pool was well used everyday!!

Casa Funda June 2009

A large well equipped villa in a rural location, with gated access off a quiet side road. The owners met us on arrival and had a quick response to any questions.

Probably the best equipped we've stayed at with attention to the essentials that you always end up buying like washing up liquid,dishwasher tablets,salt,vinegar BBQ coals etc, even had a pair of reading glasses!!

Very spacious accomodation although partly closed off as there were only 4 of us, had the facilities & space of a 6 bed villa at 2 bed prices,very good value for money.

Car is essential as there is nothing within walking distance ,Tavira is a 10 min drive away, lovely old Portugese fishing village, large choice of bars & restaurants also has nearest supermarket.

If you're looking for somewhere lively with plenty of nightlife then this is not for you , but if you just want to chill out and take in some of the original Portugese culture then you'd have a job to find anywhere better.

Casa Funda - fantastic holiday

We loved Casa Funda - it is very spacious indeed with the bedrooms handily spread out, which worked really well for our two parties. It is extremely well equipped with all manner of things, from board games to barbeque utensils, which was ideal with children. We especially liked the large pool which was big enough to accommodate 9 easily. Because it's nicely detached we didn't have to worry about noise from the children which was perfect.

The villa is near Tavira (5/10 min drive) but is far enough away to be quiet and secluded - we found it an ideal location. Tavira itself is a beautiful, unspoilt town with lots of restaurants/cafes. The beach which you reach by train (Ilha de Tavira I think) was very crowded and the waves were so big it wasn't really possible for children to swim - a bit disappointing. However if you travel west you can find beaches where the waves are much smaller, so this wasn't a problem really.

i would really recommend Casa Funda, especially if you have a large group. Ursula was quick to respond to any queries and couldn't have been more helpful. We were very sad to leave!

The right place to relax and rejuvenate

What a wonderful holiday we had at Casa Funda. The villa is a real home from home - it contains everything you need to have a relaxing time. The house is spacious, clean, cool and the gardens are a joy with lemons and limes growing as well as many fragrant flowers.

We wanted a quiet break and that is exactly what we got. As Gemma did some shopping for us we didn't have to go anywhere. After a couple of days of complete relaxation we started to visit some local towns - Tavira being the closest with the river running through it with the beautiful cobbled streets. The villa is well placed for visiting different towns we went to

Towards the end of our break we were really feeling revitalized so we made use of the badminton court and the table tennis table which we enjoyed.

To sum up a beautiful villa, a lovely relaxing place an ideal antidote to living in 2015.

large villa with a lot of atmosphere!

We were 10 persons i total (children, grandchildren, and grandparents - from 13 to 73 years and had a wonderful stay (only too short).

We enjoyed the many terraces and the pool. Lovely garden and surroundings.

Tavira is a beutiful town with a lot restaurents - highly reccommended

Take the small ferryboat to Isla di Tavira and have a nice day at the Beach.

Nitionalpari Ria di Famosa is a must!

Our stay at Casa Funda

We had a wonderful time at Casa Funda. I’ve rented other vacation homes in the past and have been disappointed. This home is the exception. The villa is well laid out, giving ample space for a large family and, at the same time, providing an unusual amount of privacy, because it divides into three areas. The property is well kept with more than adequate supplies of essential household items.

Casa Funda has large terraces and gardens in the front the back. The front terrace surrounds a beautiful swimming pool, well suited for swimming.

The villa is about 4 miles from Tavira, one of the most charming villages in the Algarve. There is an extensive waterfront area with restaurants and other entertainments. Beaches lie on the south side of an island, extending along the coast. Access is by boat and ferry, which helps preserve their charm and relatively modest use, as compared to other tourist destinations.

Casa Funda is highly recommended.

Lovely private villa a few miles drive from Tavira

The owner Ursula was very helpful and responded very quickly to emails before and during our visit.

Gemma, the manager, was also very helpful.

The villa was very clean, as was the pool.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Casa Funda is a 7 minute drive from elegant Tavira, with a Roman bridge, cobbled alleyways, medieval squares, innumerable restaurants and riverside cafés and a vibrant fish, fruit and veg market. You can sit by the river sipping a beer or a traditional 'bica,' a Portuguese expresso, or view the camera obscura by the castle. 5 minutes' away is an ancient, charming fishing village, Santa Luzia where you sit outside and dine on freshly grilled fish or take a water taxi to kilometres of unspoilt white, sandy, underpopulated beaches. You can be in Seville in under two hours, or Lisbon in less than three...Wine tours can be arranged through tour operators in Tavira; we did a brilliant one to Quinta da Tor near Loule.

There are quite a few Michelin restaurants within taxi reach: Sao Gabriel and Henrico Leis in Almancil (1 star, the latter SUPERB) and two 2 star ones slightly further away.

For nature lovers: the RIA FORMOSO nature park along 100 miles of protected coastline, with hides for birdwatching. .

Bike hire is easy, both mountain and regular bikes. The hills around the villa are breathtakingly beautiful and there are wonderful restaurants with far-ranging views over the mountains.

Casa Funda is 25kms from the Spanish border. Seville is only1.5 hrs away. It is one of the world's most beautiful cities, full of architectural treasures and tapas bars. Lisbon is 2.5 hours away by car.

  • The en suite bathroom to the master bedroom is brand new. Bathrooms 2 and 3 and 4 all have new suites, showers and all fittings (as of 15 December 2010) with stronger pressure pumps. There is a brand new boiler in the studio flat (as of June 2010).

  • Bedrooms 1 and two have sliding doors to the terraces and pool. All bedrooms have air conditioning available. A charge will be made for AC if you exceed the average electricity use of 300 kw per week. This charge will be 30cents per kilowatt. The meter is read on arrival and again on departure. We provide a cot with bedlinen as well as a high chair free of charge. If you require more than one there is a 15 Euro weekly rental charge.

Notes:
We have created a huge tiled terrace complete with a second stone barbecue to the front of the house, so one can read, doze or dine in peace away from the pool. The pool area has also been re landscaped, with a fountain and additional trees and shrubs. In the modernised kitchen there are new appliances, including a 5 ring range cooker, microwave, dishwasher and an extra large refrigerator(8 July 2010). There are three other fridges also available. A new utility area outside with a new washing machine also houses a small fridge and a chest freezer. In addition to the landscaping, we have created a badminton area for the sporty minded (racquets in the house) and there is a ping pong table for your use. We have a large amount of books, French, German and English, as well as a selection of boardgames (both French and English) and toys and pool toys for your and your children’s' enjoyment. There are cuddly toys in one of the bedrooms, a rugby ball and a selection of other balls.
