English professor and husband fell in love with this idyllic house, not least because of the lake, which is amazing. Perfect in all seasons, and something to do all year long. We love the wildlife and drifting gently in the canoe across the private lake--wonderful winter views across private lake, great fishing in the summertime. The land across the road and across the lake is all preserved so your views are spectacular. Great local restaurants and, of course, everything the Berkshires has to offer. You'll be delighted with this rare find and come back again and again. You'll come for the culture--the music, theater, dance--and you'll stay for tranquil hours reading a favorite book on the porch, or beginning to write your novel.
Dr. Gillian Hettinger purchased this house in 2012
This year-round lovely property has everything you want for the perfect vacation getaway--romantic weekend, hiking the Appalachian Trail, skiing, girls' retreat. Feel the weight of the world fall off your shoulders when you enter and look out at the lake, just beyond the slope to water's edge. Cozy wood-burning fireplace with wood supplied. Peaceful, yet not remote and on a sought-after, very private lake with views -- about a mile off Route 7 in Sheffield and just five miles south of Great Barrington. The house is a 60's ranch and is absolutely immaculately clean-- there's also the charm of hearing the screen door slam on the porch which evokes memories of summers past.
200 feet directly on the 150-acre private lake with your own private dock and canoe and protected shoreline across. Surrounded by Land Trust protected property. Enjoy the cozy wood burning fireplace in addition to individually controlled heat in every room. You will never want to leave. Water is pure, tested, and good to drink. All linens and paper products provided--just walk in, relax, and enjoy this magical house--don't you deserve it?
Stayed on this idyllic lake--beautifully furnished house with everything we needed. Fishing for bass was outstanding and it was a wonderful few days.
Home is beautiful, cozy and just as pictured! It had everything we needed for our stay and exceeded our expectations. The views of the lake were even better than pictured, especially with the mist rising in the morning. Gillian and her daughter were a pleasure, and made sure we enjoyed our stay in many ways, (fresh eggs in the fridge for one). Their recommendations of where to dine were perfect and added several memories to our experience. They also have a binder full of pamphlets and several books on what to do in the Berkshires, which were very helpful. We did not have a chance to use the canoe or bikes that were available, but would love to on our next return!
I can't say enough about this area, place and Gillian (the owner). Everything was wonderful - my 85 year old mother and I came to visit my daughter who had moved to Great Barrington. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and the lake - a welcome addition to the ambiance and pace of the town.
The house is comfortable and so easy to enjoy!
Gillian and her husband couldn't have been nicer!
We enjoyed our stay here immensely. All major rooms have views of The water, property is quiet and peaceful, wildlife abounds! Very very clean and neat, beds were comfy. Screened in porch was a fave. Owners are very responsive, checked in on us, and left us a welcome packet of fresh eggs from their chickens and bottle of wine. We are going back in the fall.
My friends and I stayed at this lovely lake house for Memorial Day weekend. Our hostess left us fresh eggs and a bottle of wine to welcome us, and pulled the canoe to the shore for us to have a paddle. Everything was relaxing and lovely. It's a great house, with lots of space, comfortable beds, and room to relax either outdoors or on the screened-in porch. We spread out and took advantage of it all. We loved it!
Gillian's home was perfect for our needs. My family was in town to attend my son's graduation activities at one of the area's boarding schools. It was an easy drive, located in a great area, but hidden away on an idyllic lake. It was comfortable, quiet, and quaint. We were welcomed with fresh flowers, fresh farm raised eggs, and a bottle of chilled wine. We immediately felt at home. Our only regret was that we didn't have enough time to get our fishing lines in the water. We are looking forward to going back to enjoy all the lake location has to offer.
The house was perfect - well kept and exactly as advertised.
We loved the screened in porch and views of the lake. The furniture was comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked.
Will try to come back - we really loved the place.
