Cottage at Taughannock: next to Taughannock State Park

Bedrooms 4
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

4-bedroom, 2-bath family cottage

Retreat to this lovely cottage and grounds we call 'The Cottage at Taughannock,' ideal for a relaxed family vacation or small group retreat.

Only eight miles from Ithaca and sharing a 2000 ft border with Taughannock State Park, The Cottage at Taughannock offers both indoor and outdoor spaces for you to enjoy.

Prepare meals in the comfortable kitchen and dine in the “garden room”--or grill and dine on the adjacent patio. Bicycle 4/10 of a mile to the beach at Taughannock State Park for a refreshing dip in Cayuga Lake, or to enjoy the many excellent hiking trails. In the evening, sing around the fire pit or gather in the cozy living room to play board games or watch a movie next to the fireplace.

The cottage sleeps 7 people. The master bedroom, the yellow room and the upstairs larger room each contain queen beds. Upstairs, also, is a smaller room with a twin-sized bed. For a small additional fee, we can accommodate up to the maximum of three more people (10 total), using a queen and a twin-sized air beds placed in the living room or one of the bedrooms. Linens and towels are provided.

The cottage is pleasantly furnished with period pieces and textiles. The kitchen is equipped with pots, pans & utensils for meal prep, as well as a dishwasher and a commercial-sized stove.

Why Ann and Chad Hoover chose Cayuga Lake

We knew the moment we walked on the property that our four-year search was over....we found the perfect place. It has been such fun making it our own.

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottage is uniquely located close to the park, but not far from Ithaca and Trumansburg. Even in March and April, early spring ephemerals surround the area. The rhododendron garden is lovely in May and early June. Flowers continue to brighten the patio throughout the summer and into the fall, when the autumn leaves take over the show. In winter the Norway spruce laden with snow is breathtaking and sledding, cross country skiing and skating are all close at hand.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"To Our Hosts-

Thank you for providing us with a magical home this last week, the great kitchen, sun-filled dining room, sweet bedrooms, the patio-- all of us, native Ithacans back in our home town, appreciated our respite here. We'll be back again & hope to stay here.

Best Wishes,

D, M, J, K"

Wonderful Place to stay! Would definitely return

  • 5 of 5

I cannot express enough how perfect this cottage was! Clean, comfortable (great beds). We were in Ithaca for my son's graduation weekend, joined by other family members. Ann and Chad met us there the first day and explained/answered any questions we had.

The grounds are beautiful and there was plenty of room for all 8 of us. My young grandchildren loved the upstairs small room. We hardly knew they were there as they were up in Their Room, when we were at the house. Easy ride to Ithaca and Trumansburg, spent some of the weekend hiking Falls and visiting the park and Farmers Market.

I can only say again, that we could not have found a more perfect place for Graduation weekend! Incredibly better than any hotel and created a true family feeling. Thank you Ann, Chad and VRBO!

Our home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved the cottage and the property. Location was perfect for our daily hikes and lake activities! My little grandson told me that he wanted to live there. High praise, indeed!!! The owners have thoughtfully appointed it with the comforts of home and we looked forward to beginning our day in its cheery and homey atmosphere. Coming back from our long days out and about and dining on the patio was a delight. Marshmallow roasting and watching the stars twinkle overhead was everyone's favorite. Thanks to the owners and their marvelous creation of hospitality. We all had a great time and look forward to returning next year. Thanks, Chad and Ann!

Lovely and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

It's hard to imagine anything you could need that isn't in this house and the yard and woods are beautiful. (I never saw so many butterflies!) Hike back along the stream and discover the waterfalls. And when you leave the house, Taughannock Falls is less than two miles away. You could walk, but the occasional truck flying along Route 89 made me nervous enough tyo drive and park. You're close enough to Ithaca, a great place to explore, and also to day trips to Seneca Falls and Watkins Glen. It's a pretty perfect spot and the hosts are wonderful.

Awesome vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time seeing Ithaca, the many, many beautiful gorges & waterfalls, and enjoying Cayuga Lake! The cottage was outstanding! It is very comfortable, finely decorated, and fully stocked with all essentials. The property is beautiful as well. We spent a few evenings enjoying the firepit, or playing bocce in the back yard. Or, if it rained, playing games inside on the large family room table. The location is VERY convenient to Ithaca, the many State Parks, and Cayuga Lake. We highly recommend it!

Perfect Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect! Three very comfortable and spacious bedrooms, and another very sweet single room. We loved the large eating area, well stocked and labeled kitchen, and the opportunity to sit and observe nature either through glass or in the yard. Close to parks and to Cornell. And how could I neglect the very generous and welcoming hosts!
