Built in the 1930s as a restaurant (serving chicken!) when logging was a way of life in the southern Sierra Nevada foothills, today Merrynook is an art-filled garden cabin just a short drive from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and Sequoia National Forest.
Bachrun and Mahalia LoMele own and manage Merrynook, and its sister cabin next door, fivespot. They have been vacation hosts in Pinehurst since 2008.

About Mahalia LoMele
Bachrun and I have lived in Pinehurst since 2003. We opened fivespot cabin to the public in 2008, and now Merrynook in 2016. Former New Yorkers, we have adjusted to the rural, mountain life without abandoning the arts we love (music and visual art). Come see us!
Mahalia LoMele purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Mahalia LoMele chose Pinehurst
Pinehurst was a flourishing logging community for decades. The Pinehurst Lodge, a short walk from Merrynook, is a locally-owned and operated restaurant in a 100-year-old former sawmill. Cedarbrook, an early-20th century cabin community built by Mennonite families from nearby Reedley around a lovely year round stream, is a 10 minute walk away. Other nearby historical logging sites are Neff's Camp and Millwood. Today, small cabins used as summer homes, rentals, and by full-time residents, are scattered throughout the forest. Pinehurst's year-round population is around 350.

The Merrynook is a very intriguing experience for those who are fortunate to get the chance to stay here. One is surrounded by interesting collectibles and decor. The books there for your enjoyment to read are like no other. Mahalia and Bachrun had bouquets of fresh Lilacs on the table when we arrived.
We loved the location to the parks and the beds and linens were clean and comfy after a long day of hiking.
Giant Sequoias-Warm Retreat
Staying at Merrynook was a delight. It is full of charm! There are so many words to describe this lovely retreat: eclectic, artistic, snuggly, carefree.... There are surprises to be discovered in every corner and so many books you'll never want to leave. Merrynook comes well stocked and is super close to both Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. It was a delight to hike all day and come "home" to our own kitchen, a warm fire and the claw-foot bathtub. Mahalia and Bachrun are right there if you need them and are wonderful hosts. We will come back for sure!
Mahalia was wonderful by sharing her beautiful home. The cabin was warm and cozy and had everything that you could ever ask for. My family and I really enjoyed our stay! Very close to Kings Canyon and the area is very peaceful and relaxing.

Cozy Mountain Cottage
Merrynook was perfect for our family (of seven adults) to stay a few days before beginning our backpacking trip on the Rae Lakes Loop.
We loved the eclectic decor, art, and books, as well as the outdoor garden/patio seating areas. Merrynook was a wonderful place to relax, acclimate, and get organized before heading out on our hike.
