This cozy studio cottage is nestled on a private lane in the heart of Arden Park/Wilhaggen, two of Sacramento's most desirable neighborhoods. It is centrally located and within easy walking distance of the American River and its wonderful bike trail. CSUS is 5 minutes away, a 2 mile straight line down Fair Oaks Blvd. where you'll also pass a picturesque 9-hole golf course bordering the river. Downtown Sacramento and the state capitol are about five miles, also on the Fair Oaks/J St route. There are dozens of restaurants within a one-mile radius, from exceptionally fine dining to great local greasy spoons and everything in-between. There is also a Whole Foods about two miles away.
The cottage is a quiet place, about 500 square feet in size, cozy and well-appointed. It's nestled under numerous tall oaks and next to a green belt. When you are there, it is hard to believe you are in the middle of a bustling city.
The fully-equipped kitchen has a four-burner stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, Cuisinart coffemaker, mixer and toaster. Also included are dinnerware and flatware, linen napkins, a variety of pots, pans and bakeware, candles, wine glasses and a selection of spices and oils.
The double french doors open to an expansive redwood deck under a canopy of oak trees in this rustic setting, courtesy of the green belt which is complete with a seasonal creek below. It's perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or dining al fresco under the stars. The deck has a table, chairs, and lighting and, if you're lucky, an evening view of the family of wild turkeys that has been hanging around for generations.
The cottage typically stays very cool due to its location under the trees, but has an oversized central heating and air unit to insure your comfort any time of year.
Comcast is our cable and Internet provider and the Hi-Definition Digital service includes HBO, Starz, Encore and other premium channels, and there is a Blue Ray Disc player.
The walls are adorned with classic Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom posters and handbills and other music-themed art. A selection of books, including many about music, music art and the music business are also on hand.
The queen-sized bed comes with down comforter and pillows, with hypoallergenic bedding available on request. A futon is available for a third person, also upon request. There is an iron, an ironing board and a hair dryer.
The tiled bath has a shower with shampoo, soaps and a selection of toiletries.
There is a washer-dryer and laundry detergent.
The cottage shares a covered carport with a larger house on the property (a bungalow that is also on VRBO) and ample additional parking is available on the lane.
The cottage is truly centrally located. There is easy access to Hwy 50 to Tahoe and the Foothills where more than 100 wineries abound; I-5 leads north to Lassen and Shasta or South to the San Joaquin Valley; I-80 to San Francisco, Napa and the Redwoods and Highway 99 to the levees of the expansive and wondrous Sacramento Delta, including the historic levee towns of Locke, Walnut Grove and Isleton.
I am Mike Farrace, Berkeley-born and a Sacramento resident since 1972. I grew up in Antioch, Ca., and worked for Tower Records for almost 30 years, publishing Pulse! Magazine and creating and managing Tower's towerrecords site and direct to consumer businesses. My full-time gig now is selling rock art and photography which can be found in abundance in my VRBO dwellings. I am very excited to be doing this and enjoy it very much. I like learning and improving so, please, do not hesitate to comment or ask questions. I will respond promptly and enthusiastically. I want to be a great host and will make sure you are happy and satisfied.
Mike Farrace purchased this cottage in 1997
Even in my college years I lived near this neighborhood and wanted to buy here. In 1997, I found the right deal and that became a reality. It's a fantastic property -- full of trees and drama, great light, a stone staircase and creek, really interesting and fun. It is secure and very private, yet close to great restaurants and grocery, a library, quality retail, golf and excellent public schools. As you will see, it's a special place.
We're committed to offering a great experience to our lodgers. I am always be available to see to it that you will be 100% satisfied with your stay.
Everything you need is found in this charming cottage. The kitchen was nicely equipped and washer and dryer was a nice plus. It has a feeling of seclusion yet is close to dining and grocery shopping. Freeway access is nearby making it easy to tour around. It is decorated with music memorabilia bringing back memories of our past youth. Owner Mike Farrace stopped by to be sure everything was OK.. We enjoyed sitting and dining on the deck while listening to the birds. We had a very relaxing stay.
We were welcomed to the cottage with fresh flowers on the table and everything we would need for a wonderful stay. A perfect location to quickly get to river walk, shopping, spa and much more. It was nestled in a quiet, peaceful setting giving privacy and no loud neighbors like you could encounter at a hotel. The owner was very accommodating and terrific to work with. Our family rented the adjoining home and it too was perfect. If you are going to Sacramento, this is the way to go!
This property was converted to accommodate comfortable living arrangements for one or two people. Lots of closet space is available for whatever you may have brought with you. It is a single room with a separate small bathroom. The kitchen area is ample sized and equipped with full-sized appliances. It is located in to the rear of a larger VRBO property and we rented this cabin in combination with the larger house. With that in mind, we used the property essentially as another bedroom with the main house so that we did not utilize the kitchen area. However, everything seemed to be functional and the owner is very quick to resolve any issues you may encounter. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that the HVAC filter was very dirty and resulted in accumulated dust in the cabin. One telephone call to the owner and that was resolved the same day.
The cabin is located in a very nice and seemingly safe area of Sacramento on a quiet lane off of Fair Oaks Blvd. Stores are within a short drive, but not within walking distance of the property. Even with the dust issue, and due to the rapid resolution of that issue by the owner, we would recommend this property to family and friends. And if we return to Sacramento and need accommodations for two we would happily stay in this cabin again.
We were in Sacramento for the Memorial Day weekend visiting family, and this spot was perfect. We very much enjoyed the deck, the kitchen had everything we needed, the shaded double parking spot was a real plus and the air conditioner was excellent. We had been on the road camping for 3 weeks, so the washer and drier were a godsend and having closets for storage was very helpful. We highly recommend this VRBO and plan to stay here the next time we are in Sacramento!
My husband and I recently stayed four days at this charming cottage. The location makes it easy to access all parts of Sacramento as well as easy to get to the highway leading to Reno or Lake Tahoe. We spent time every day out on the deck reading and enjoying the sounds of nature. Mike left flowers and wine on the table inside the cottage as well as flowers on the deck table. I was pleased to have a washer and dryer since we were on a road trip with this being our half way point. We never had any problems at the cottage. I would highly recommend Mike's cottage to anyone visiting the area.
Leisurely walks along the American River; Foothill winery tours & wine tasting (our foothills are home to some of the best Zinfandel in the world); bird watching at the fabulous William B. Pond nature area are all very nearby; Historic Coloma Gold Country and Apple Hill are about 45 minutes; Lake Tahoe, the Napa Valley and San Francisco are within 2 hours.
