Angela Leece purchased this lodge in 2001
The depot is centrally located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is the perfect in between meeting spot if you have families in lower Michigan and Wisconsin.
Our love of old buildings and history inspired us to restore the depot.
Our group of 6 stayed at the station on our way back down state from Isle Royale National Park. My daughter was flying out the following morning from the Marquette airport so the location was very convenient yet still very unique lodging. I appreciated the fact that we were allowed to stay for just the one night we requested as many locations in the Upper Peninsula had multiple night requirements. Station was very clean for such a large location and decorated and remodeled very tastefully. We just couldn't get over how cool a location it is. Would love to stay again with maybe a larger group.
I have been meaning to write a review for some time now. My husband and I were married in Marquette. We had a small destination wedding and were looking for a unique place to hold our reception. The Union Station worked out wonderfully!!! It is in a great location..lots to do and very close to Marquette. Because of the decor and the beautiful job the owners have done restoring the station very little decoration on our part was needed.( Many compliments on the venue by our guests) The owners and staff were very accommodating and quickly helped us with whatever we needed. The station is very spacious and clean! Tons of amenities! We could not have been happier with our experience and plan to find a reason to stay again!
My roller derby team stayed here in July of 2015. They were able to accommodate our groups needs with ease. Love that it was in a small town so easy to run to grocery store, yet still feel connected with outdoors. Centrally located to outdoor activities and not far from Marquette where our bout was being held. We were able to have the team meet at this location for a bonfire and any meals. Absolutely would recommend this location!
My husband, 2 tween/teen daughters and my sister stayed at the depot for 3 nights and were very impressed. Decor is Restoration Hardware chic right down to the hot water pipes. It's ridiculously spacious and pleasantly tidy (no cabin-y smells or spiders) We loved being so close to the iron trail for morning runs and evening walks. Easy to explore nearby Marquette. Pizza on the corner was yummy.
We stayed with our family to celebrate our sons graduation from NMU and decided to celebrate Christmas together. We had plenty of room for our grad and Xmas party and plenty of sleeping space for those that stayed overnight.
The heat was a bit confusing to figure it out to keep it warm, but once we did we were very comfortable. The heated floor was wonderful!!!
The wood stove for fires was well stocked and the Depot location was close to the trails, the Mountains, and NMU.
The area around the depot itself is bit run down and at night the bar next door used some of our parking. We had a wonderful time, the depot is gorgeous, and we had a great time.
I love old historic type buildings and this one is just lovely! It looks just as I thought it would from the description and pictures, it was clean, and I loved the heated floors! It was a bit cooler that weekend so we used the sauna and wood stove a lot. Since I am a Finn and grew up with a sauna I would probably use the sauna any time of the year. I staied here from Thursday night to Monday morning. We had a bachelorette party and wedding gift opening here as well and a lot of friends came over to visit. There is a big screen TV, cable, and a dvd/vcr plus they had a few board games for more entertainment. He has WiFi and we got the password, on my cell phone I could get it to work for only a little bit then it would stop and my daughter couldn't get it to work on her IPod touch at all. I am a bit tech. challenged... and I was very busy with the wedding so it wasn't something that we worry too much about.... I imagine the owner could have helpped us fix that also but we didn't bother to ask.... we don't have cable at home and we were enjoying watching HGTV when we had time! The few questions we did have were aswered very courteously and very promptly! I am looking forward to renting this again over the summer for a girls get away weekend. I would reccommend this building for parties, family gathering, snow mobliers (the trail is right outside your front door!) cross country skier, quilters, scap bookers (there a quite a few tables to layout your stuff) or anyone who wants a larger place to stay. I really liked having a full kitchen too. It saved me from having to eat out all weekend long.
Within a short drive to Marquette, guest of the Historical Union Station enjoy the many wonders of the Upper Peninsula. Located on the Heritage Trail, popular for hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Walking distance to the downtown areas antique shops bakery and theater. Lake Superior and down hill skiing is just 15 minutes away. We also have snowmobiles available for rent during your stay.
