Beth’s Hawaiian Hideaway.
Aloha and welcome to Beth’s Hawaiian Hideaway located in South Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii.
This beautiful Master bedroom suite (one of two in the main residence) has wonderful ocean views of Kealakekua Bay and the 'Captain Cook' monument. This is a great place for one couple or a single person who would like to have a beautiful master suite and bath with private entrance located in the middle of the coffee farm area of beautiful South Kona, The suite is within walking distance of 'The Painted Church'. This 'Big Island' vacation rental is much more affordable and offers more privacy than most condos and B and B’s offer. JUST ADDED 4 stand up paddle boards and 4 kayaks free of charge.
This is a NON COOKING suite. We are close to grocery stores, shopping, restaurants and many activities and it is a great jumping-off place for other activities around the island. The Blue Grotto Suite is bright and airy. The entire ocean facing wall of the suite is filled with screened windows and peaceful views of the lawn, (horseshoes and badminton anyone?) landscaping, trees and the sea.
The Blue Grotto suite has satellite TV and a lanai. Sleep like a baby in the comfy king size bed in the bedroom and relax in the private bath with walk in shower, complimentary robes included. You will have a separate entrance and complete privacy in a beautiful residential area.

Dave and Beth moved here from Monument, Colorado along with Beths Mom, 2 dogs and a cat. We love it here and would like to share the beauty and serenity that we have found here on the Big Island
David Stuit purchased this house in 2006
Thank you Dave & Beth for your warm welcome and embrace. We enjoyed your Hawaii home and enjoyed ourselves and all your beautiful touches
This place made our trip. We stayed on the Big I for 3 weeks and were lucky to save this place for last. Definitely a GEM! I don't want to say too much, because I plan on going back and I need it to be available.
My husband and I were very happy with this beautiful Room and lanai. We stayed 6 nights and were able to enjoy many parts of the Island from this home base. It was decorated with original art and the lanai had a bohemian feel. The bed is very comfy, room is spacious, and there are nice beach towels and bathrobes to use. The Owners left us papaya and a huge avocado which we used to make an awesome guacamole. Dave was readily available for questions or any needs we had. We took his advice and had a great kayak trip to Captain Cook Monument for some snorkeling. Two step is really close and a great place to watch the sunset. We were lucky enough to be there when a pod of spinner dolphins swam in to jump and play with us while we snorkrled. Unforgettable.
The coffee house has a great breakfast, and there is a grocery about 5 miles away to grab some things to store in your mini frig. The lanai also has a microwave and coffee maker with coffee, and all the utensils for cooking. Doing the dishes is a little tricky without a kitchen sink. If you plan a long visit, you may want to rent the bigger unit w/ full kitchen, but this one is absolutely
wonderful too. We ate out at least one meal each day. We did not take advantage of the grill, but there is one available.
The sounds of Hawaii envelope you in the evening and early morning. There are frogs, geckos, and roosters welcoming you to the island. The geckos like to come into the lanai and hang out on the porch. They are cute, but if you don't like them hanging around, we want you to be aware. We never saw them in the bedroom or the bathroom. Geckos are common anywhere you might stay.
The pool was refreshing and the lounge chairs, by the pool, are great for lying back and checking out the stars in the Hawaiian night sky. We used the boogie boards, beach chairs, and cooler, they had available, for a trip to a boogie boarding beach up north.
We liked the location away from the touristy Kona, but did not feel it was too far go and shop, eat, and hang out. The home has another rental unit, so you may here a little talking now and then, but it was not bothersome to us.
We would highly recommend a visit this wonderful VRBO!
We were so impressed with this property! The view was amazing, the accommodations were more then perfect. We had everything we needed to cook meals, including spices and oils that were there for our convenience. We took advantage of the equipment and had a blast paddle boarding and snorkeling. Thank you so much for helping make the experience one to remember!
My daughter and I spent a week on the big island and at stayed at Dave and Beth’s Blue Grotto Master Bedroom Suite. The accommodations were clean and as advertised. Plus we took advantage of the available paddle boards and snorkeling gear. It’s just a bedroom suite but the attached screened in porch provides an extra sitting space and was mostly where we hung out when at the suite.
If you can be a little flexible don’t be deterred by the fact that this is a non-cooking suite. There is a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. Plus a grill outside by the pool just a few steps away. Breakfast we just snacked before heading out for the day. Avocados, macadamia nuts, fresh fruit, etc. Lunches were usually out. But who wants to go on vacation and cook all the time anyway? We managed dinners quite nicely with the grill. Most evenings we grilled the local fish, grass fed burgers or steaks alongside a foil pouch full of vegetables or grilled pineapple.
A big plus for us was the central location on the west side of the island. Not too far from Kona but far enough away from the main tourist area. From here you can easily head south to Volcanoes National Park, Pahoa and around to Hilo if you want.
The restaurants we most enjoyed (lunches):
Annie’s Burgers – one of the nicer places in terms of décor and good food too.
Da Poke Shack – We didn’t eat here until the last day and both thought we would have come here more had we tried it earlier in the week.
Kona Brewing Company – a bit touristy but the beer and food was good and seemed like some of the locals hang out there too.
Activities we enjoyed:
Paddleboard over to the Capt. Cook Monument. We didn’t take snorkeling gear on our initial trip and wish we had. We never made it back for the snorkeling because the surf was too high later in our stay. Dave showed us how to load the paddleboards on the rental car and gave us some good tips to get us started.
Snorkeling at the Tide Pools outside of Pahoa and Two Step.
The Visitor’s Center on Mauna Kea. Great sunset viewing and a free astronomy program with multiple telescopes to look through after dark.
Hiking in the craters and the after dark glow in Volcanoes National Park.
Hiked into the Green Sand Beach. And there is a 60’ cliff jump nearby if you’re so inclined.
The Sunday Maku’u Farmer’s market outside of Pahoa. Local crafts, food and the people watching is quite interesting.
Easy hike to some petroglyph’s north of Kono.
We just got home from an incredible trip to the Blue Grotto. Dave and Beth were very warm and welcoming, while also giving you lots of privacy to enjoy paradise with your spouse. The room was clean and cute, and the pillows were GREAT! There was an abundance of towels, and nice, newer sheets. We swam in the pool (with the resident Labradoodle!) and went snorkeling basically every day. Two step is right down the hill, and the snorkeling is too good to pass up. Great food at the cafe up the road. We had planned to use their kayaks to cross the bay to captain cook, but the February ocean swells were too crazy. Definitely take stock of their watersports gear before you bother renting anything, they have tons. 6 out of 5 stars!
Included are free wireless internet access (bring your own laptop), washer and dryer, BBQ, beach equipment consisting of snorkels, masks, towels, beach chairs, surfboard, boogie boards and cold cooler. 3-2 person kayaks, 2 stand up paddle boards (SUP's) and bicycles available for use. The full kitchen is outfitted with a stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, a coffee grinder, coffeemaker, toaster and blender. All dishes, cutlery, pots and pans. All linens, towels, including beach towels are included too. Easy off-street parking. See our additional listings under Captain Cook VRBO# 248200 & VRBO# 189237.
