Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

The Cottage at Green Pond is a cozy, rustic cottage located on a private, peaceful mountain lake (no motorboats). Just steps away from the lake, there's no better setting to enjoy your favorite water sports -- swimming, fishing, or boating. Or, just relax on the screened in porch, on the deck overlooking the water or soak up the sun on the dock. The two bedrooms offer a queen bed and in the other bedroom a twin and full size beds. Three kayaks, a canoe, rowboat and paddle boat are available for you to use. At night, have a fire in the outdoor fire pit and roast marshmallows.

About Ben Baker, Sally Baker

The cottage was purchased by our grandparents in 1963 and has been enjoyed by our family ever since. It's our little piece of paradise, perfect to get away and relax.

Ben Baker, Sally Baker purchased this cabin in 1963

Why Ben Baker, Sally Baker chose Capital Saratoga

Quiet location with about 16 cottages on the lake. Perfect for relaxation. For families with children this is a great place to swim and to fish. You can catch a sunfish (guaranteed) right off the end of the dock or jump in a boat and catch some bass! Going out early in the morning with a cup of coffee on the lake in a kayak, just floating around is a great way to start the day, or to end the day

What makes this cabin unique

Memories are made at Green Pond. The simplicity with the amenities of a home make this a great place to recharge and unplug.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was our second visit to Green Pond. We had a very relaxing time. We thing our dog, Maya, is beginning to like the canoe! Many species of birds again this summer – new to our list for here, is the Double Crested Cormorant and Red-Breasted Nut Hatches.

Thank you for sharing such a special place.

The cottage on Green Pond exceeded our expectations! Perfect location!!

  • 5 of 5

I always worry a little when booking a rental property online but after reading the reviews I gave it a shot. This cottage did not disappoint! This location was perfect. I thought I might miss being on a larger lake but that was not the case at all. Our 3 girls are in their 20's and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Spending time paddle boarding, kayaking, reading, and just being together!! I do have to say that the water guns they found made it even better! Thank you to the Baker family for sharing your home on Green Pond!!

Just Plain Fun!

  • 5 of 5

This rustic lake-side cabin had everything we needed, inside and out, for a fun, comfortable and relaxing week. There is easy access to Green Pond, a lovely, clean, calm small lake, for swimming and for paddling in a variety of small non-motorized craft.

We enjoyed grilling on the Weber gas grill on the deck, and found the kitchen well-equipped for indoor cooking as well. The screened porch provides a great place to eat or play games while enjoying the lake view and breezes, along with shelter from the occasional passing shower or insect.

The human and canine neighbors were friendly and mostly quiet (though we provoked several watchdogs to bark by kayaking past their docks!). We also enjoyed watching the comings and goings of two goose families, and listening to the riot of birdsong.

We particularly enjoyed our day at nearby Merck Forest and Farm (great trails, animals and farming projects to see, and a store for maple syrup and more). We also enjoyed driving around the Battenkill Valley, buying from the Creamery and other local farms and farmstands, and seeing 5 farms whose products I often buy at the Union Square Greenmarket in NYC.

And no matter what we did during the day, it was always delightful to have dinner while looking at Green Pond, and then having one last paddle around before dark.

Highly recommended.

A great week on Green Pond!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful week on Green Pond. The kids had an amazing time paddling around the lake on the various boats available to us. We fished and swam and enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing vacation. The cabin had everything we needed. The dogs had a blast too. We played board games, did a puzzle and watched movies when it rained. We loved listening to the sound of the rain on the tin roof! We spent a day at Six Flags, not too far away, went blueberry picking and jumped off the rocks in the nearby quarry. We had a great time and hope to go back next year!

The lake and cabin are both amazing! Ben and Sally provide everything.....everything!!! From games for adults and kids to a wall of books, canoes/pedal boat, fishing rods, local information, 2 grills (gas and charcoal!). A place we stayed at a year before doesn't even come close and I am so sorry I didn't visit Green Pond first. I wasn't sure of the location but took a chance and its close to everything but also very private. Local attractions for children was an easy & beautiful 30 min drive to Glen Falls and VT is just around the corner. The lake is clean, peaceful and beautiful! There are different levels to sit on and enjoy the view. Ben and Sally have made this cabin very welcoming. We were overwhelmed with what they offer. They are also very pleasant to speak with and follow up with anything that we may have needed during our stay. Our lab, Java, enjoyed swimming so much and I loved having my morning coffee on the dock playing ball with him. Our children enjoyed their time especially the fishing from the dock! Thank you Ben and Sally for allowing us to have a vacation which included all of our members! I look forward to another visit at Green Pond and making more family memories! I have to mention your neighbor Gail, lovely and kind. You are all very lucky to have this piece of paradise! Thank you for sharing!!!! The Gee-Espositos

Relaxation with a capital "R"!

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous accommodations just perfect for our small family of 2 (plus 1 happy Lab ;-). Can easily accommodate another 3. Kitchen well equipped and clean plus new grill just perfect. Delicious spring water right from the well! And the lake. . .no reason to leave this place! Quiet and serene -- had 1 day with some music-blaring guests across the lake that was a bit of a bummer, but made up for it with the lake almost to ourselves for every other day we stayed at "camp". Kayaks and pontoon paddle boat well utilized every day. Great hiking on D&H RR line and Merck Mountain both in VT. Can't wait to come back and bring friends. Our dog, Roxie, was in pure dog heaven, and we never knew she was a distance swimmer! We give it an A+ for our needs :-)
