Hi I am a professional Photographer and I purchased this place back in 2003. I'm the original owner and I worked with the architected to do many customizations. The house has won architecture awards, been featured in San Diego Home & Garden Magazine as well as featured in the popular book, 'The Not So Big House' which features homes that are exceptional living spaces by smart architecture to achieve an exceptional living experience.
Stewart Marcano purchased this house in 2003
There is simply nothing like it on the market for rental. This house is a custom modern loft home. The experience of staying here exceeds any hotel suite or home available in downtown.
We stayed at the house for a girls getaway and it was perfect! There was six of us and we all had a ton of space which is nice. The house is walking distance from a ton of awesome restaurants and bars. A great location all and all. But what makes the place even better is Stewart. He is incredibly accommodating and kind. I have rented many houses through VRBO and most often feel very much like a customer or just another number. But not with Stewart! He truly makes you feel like a welcomed guest. Will definitely be staying here next time I come through town.
Wonderful home in a great location. Stewart made sure everything was ready and also made sure we felt welcome. We plan on going back in a few years and will be staying here again, if available. Thanks again Stewart.
You've heard the saying "a picture is worth a 1,000 words" in this case the photos sold us a unit that was Way overpriced for the one week stay. We were very much looking forward to our stay, but found the unit to be tired, run down, and much in need of TLC. The photos on the site are not a true representation of the quality of the unit. The beds are worn out, the pillows are flat, the unit is falling apart. From the front railing that has become detached, to the dead plants in planters, the cutting board that was 1/2 of its original size, and the list goes on. The 3rd bedroom is the dining room with two double beds and a powder room as a bath...and no closets. The master, main flood bedroom has missing furniture as does the living area. Street people knocking on the door all hours of the night. On the last night the smoke alarms went off every 15 mins.
Tried to address these items to the owner for discussion, but rather than listening and apologizing, he justified, defended and denied all items I brought to his attention. And a note -- this unit is not located in the Gas Lamp District as advertised...or as Google Maps indicate the boundaries of Gas Lamp District.
Unfortunate as this was something we looked forward to for since we booked it in fall 2015. I have been a VRBO customer before and had great success with units and owners...this is my first lemon. :-(
We absolutely LOVED this place. Stewart was so nice and really wanted to make sure we enjoyed our vacation. He checked to make sure we got in ok and had everything we needed. We stayed from July 1-6, with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandkids. The property was exactly like the pictures. A real showplace but also really relaxed and just like home. Everyone had their own bed and having a bathroom on each level was great. It was so convenient to everything. We walked everywhere...to restaurants, Horton Plaza, the grocery store and even Seaport Village which took almost 30 minutes with the kids tagging along. We went to the master bedroom deck and watched the fireworks on the 4th. We got to see everything and could even hear the music and the crowd cheering. So much easier than fighting the traffic and crowds. It was the first time the grandkids had seen fireworks and they just loved it. Balboa Park, the zoo, Children's Museum and Old Town were just a short 10 min drive away. This location was so perfect. Next time we go to San Diego, we will make sure to stay here again.
Stewart was awesome and easy to work with for access. Place was as it looks in pics: loft-y. I had myself and two colleagues stay for 5 days of our meeting, each with our own bed and bath for about 70% of what hotel rooms would have been. I gave only 4 stars because it is just a couple of blocks north and east into a bit less trodden part of town, which meant some late night walks past even more than San Diego's usual compliment of, not entirely stable-seeming street dwellers. On the other hand, it is located just two short blocks from a supermarket and would definitely be a great pied-a-terre for a baseball game series as the Petco park is very close.
Beautiful house! It was hard to leave. It was well stocked with everything we needed, and it was very clean as well. We used the speakers almost the entire time, they were such a treat. Stewart was easy to reach by phone/text.
Very convenient location, just walk out the door and down the street to bars/restaurants/grocery/coffee/etc. So many places we still weren't able to try even after a 5 day visit. We had 10 people at the house, extra cars found the lot across the street convenient to park in. Everyone was happy with the house! Definitely would come back again and would recommend it for anyone else.
