About Stewart Marcano

Hi I am a professional Photographer and I purchased this place back in 2003. I'm the original owner and I worked with the architected to do many customizations. Why Stewart Marcano chose San Diego

There is simply nothing like it on the market for rental. This house is a custom modern loft home. The experience of staying here exceeds any hotel suite or home available in downtown.

Doesn't get much better than this!

We stayed at the house for a girls getaway and it was perfect! There was six of us and we all had a ton of space which is nice. The house is walking distance from a ton of awesome restaurants and bars. A great location all and all. But what makes the place even better is Stewart. He is incredibly accommodating and kind. I have rented many houses through VRBO and most often feel very much like a customer or just another number. But not with Stewart! He truly makes you feel like a welcomed guest. Will definitely be staying here next time I come through town.

Great location and value

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at this property. We originally booked this property as there were supposed to be 5 of us to ride in Bike the Bay. We needed a place that was large enough and with enough bathrooms as well as someplace safe to store our bikes but not in the house. The garage fit the bill for the bikes as well as providing a safe place to park. There are two balconies, one off the master bedroom that is wonderful for morning coffee or a late night drink. The house was clean and close to the gas lamp district action but far enough away as to not here the noise. Stewart, the owner, was wonderful and accommodating to our needs. I highly recommend staying here and look forward to booking it again.

Unit not as photos portrayed, unit not in Gas Lamp

  • 1 of 5

You've heard the saying "a picture is worth a 1,000 words" in this case the photos sold us a unit that was Way overpriced for the one week stay. We were very much looking forward to our stay, but found the unit to be tired, run down, and much in need of TLC. The photos on the site are not a true representation of the quality of the unit. The beds are worn out, the pillows are flat, the unit is falling apart. From the front railing that has become detached, to the dead plants in planters, the cutting board that was 1/2 of its original size, and the list goes on. The 3rd bedroom is the dining room with two double beds and a powder room as a bath...and no closets. The master, main flood bedroom has missing furniture as does the living area. Street people knocking on the door all hours of the night. On the last night the smoke alarms went off every 15 mins.

Tried to address these items to the owner for discussion, but rather than listening and apologizing, he justified, defended and denied all items I brought to his attention. And a note -- this unit is not located in the Gas Lamp District as advertised...or as Google Maps indicate the boundaries of Gas Lamp District.

Unfortunate as this was something we looked forward to for since we booked it in fall 2015. I have been a VRBO customer before and had great success with units and owners...this is my first lemon. :-(

Owner's Response: This is a bogus review. This guest is not disclosing to you that their review is motivated and tainted by the fact that just prior to their balance payment and shortly before their arrival they tried to get out of the terms of their rental agreement and not pay their entire balance due. Once the guest arrived they refused to setup a walked through of the property with me as I requested or return communications. They never contacted me during their stay about any issues they were having and in fact I was calling them to see how they were doing but was ignored. I finally got a hold of the guest after they left and they told me the smoke detectors were going off and I said I would check it out immediately and apologized. However when I arrived to the property no smoke detectors were going off and they all checked out to have full batteries and in working order. They said the cutting board was broken and I said I would replaced it and thanked them for letting me know. They said a chair was missing from one of the photos they saw online and thus the property wasn’t represented correctly in the photos. I let them know the chair was actually at the property but it was in the 1st floor bedroom. I said I would have been happy to have helped them find it or move it for them if they would have returned my calls or done the walk through. I’m responsive to all my guests and ask all my guest to call me anytime to make their stay the very best and I respond immediately to help guests if they need anything. I would like to ask you to please see other reviews that talk about location, the quality of the property and how responsive I am.

Fantastic place to watch the 4th of July fireworks from the top deck

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely LOVED this place. Stewart was so nice and really wanted to make sure we enjoyed our vacation. He checked to make sure we got in ok and had everything we needed. We stayed from July 1-6, with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandkids. The property was exactly like the pictures. A real showplace but also really relaxed and just like home. Everyone had their own bed and having a bathroom on each level was great. It was so convenient to everything. We walked restaurants, Horton Plaza, the grocery store and even Seaport Village which took almost 30 minutes with the kids tagging along. We went to the master bedroom deck and watched the fireworks on the 4th. We got to see everything and could even hear the music and the crowd cheering. So much easier than fighting the traffic and crowds. It was the first time the grandkids had seen fireworks and they just loved it. Balboa Park, the zoo, Children's Museum and Old Town were just a short 10 min drive away. This location was so perfect. Next time we go to San Diego, we will make sure to stay here again.
