Beachfront Suite at Quiet Friis Bay

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

Awaken at Pelican Beach to amazing sunrises here on the peaceful Coral Bay side of St. John USVI. Pelican Beach, one of the few St. John vacation rentals available directly on the beach, features fabulous outside living spaces with breathtaking views, cool evening breezes and almost daily visits from soaring, diving pelicans. At this unique, waterfront St. John accommodation, you will be lulled into peaceful bliss by the sound of the surf, both day and night.

Spend a lazy afternoon under the Seagrape tree canopy on our deck directly on a beautiful coral beach. Gazing out on the clear blue and aqua tranquil waters, don't be surprised to actually see a fish swimming by or to be dazzled by the air acrobatics of a leaping eagle ray. The semi private beach is available within footsteps from the grounds with some of the best snorkeling on the island because it is seldom disturbed. You never know what to expect from the amazing sea life.

Relax in our round gazebo, with its comfortable large furniture, and absorb the panoramic views from Tortola (BVI), East End (St. John), Flannigan Island (US) and Norman Island (BVI). Sun bathe during the day or dine in the evening shade on our large deck, just above the Seagrape trees.

Pelican Beach is a large waterfront home with a separate vacation rental unit. Owners are on premises in the upstairs section of the home. Captain J can arrange to take you out snorkeling to remote St. John destinations or if island hopping and visiting the British Virgin Islands is desired, we can take you on our Glacier Bay powerboat, Knot E Buoys. Private yoga classes and massages can be provided on the premises.

The newly remodel indoor living space provides two bedrooms with comfortable queen beds, fully equipped kitchen with full size appliances and a ceramic tiled bath with laundry facilities. As of July 1, 2016, the two bedrooms now have air conditioners. The owner's sister is an artist, so unique touches can be found throughout. The furnishing and artwork reflect the owner's significant travels throughout the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.

Wind down after a day of snorkeling and swimming in the screened in living room with amazing views and evening breezes. To finish off that busy day of vacationing, relax in your air-conditioned bedroom to watch a movie or favorite TV show. Each bedroom has its own cable TV with over 100 channels.

The landscaped grounds include a variety of palm trees, flowering plants to attract humming birds and many species of cactus and succulents.

Miss Lucy's restaurant is a very short walk for evening dining, Sunday Jazz Brunch or a casual lunch from this one of a kind vacation rental on St. John, USVI.

In addition to the North Shore beaches, many other beaches such as Salt Pond Beach and remote Lameshur Bay are a short drive away.

Coral Bay, with a variety of restaurants and shopping, is a 7 - 10 minute drive.

Pelican Beach, described by many as paradise found, far away from the stress of everyday living.

About Nancy Stromp & Jason Hayman

We live on premises in the upstairs section of the home.

We started vacationing in St. John about ten years ago. We often dreamed about a life away from our hectic lives in New Jersey. We wanted a more peaceful and tranquil life. So in 2009, we decided to take the plunge and we purchased Pelican Beach on Friis Bay.

Nancy is living her dream. She left her corporate financial executive life and is semi-retired. She is happy to no longer have a desk job. She is currently the yoga director at Concordia Eco-Resorts. She has been practicing yoga for almost 20 years and is part of the St. John yoga teacher group, Do Yoga St. John.

Jason is living a life above and beyond his expectations. Jason has recently become a commercial boat captain and is nicknamed “Captain J”. In addition, he is working on his instructors level certification for scuba diving.

Nancy Stromp & Jason Hayman purchased this house in 2009

Serenity with a view

  • 4 of 5

You can leave the sliders open at night and enjoy the sounds of the waves and nature. Very relaxing! I love the sound of the frogs. We spent a fair amount of time on the screened in porch enjoying the view and watching the pelicans. The kitchen has everything you will need.....including a bottle of rum and a blender. Short walk to Miss Lucy's for yummy food and entertainment.

Private beach with exquisite amenities and breathtaking views

  • 5 of 5

I never write reviews-what's the point? But I had to share this hidden gem- it's that special.

My family of 4 (2 kids: 10 and 7) spent a week at this property. There aren't enough words to describe the hospitality and the amount of fun and relaxation we had here. The place is nicely appointed with everything you need. You have your own PRIVATE beach within walking steps of your place-read: Close to the blender!

The hosts were available to ask questions regarding places to eat and places to snorkel-but we barely ventured out-it was that spectacular. We snorkeled, paddle boarded and kayaked (THEY HAVE ALL THE GEAR)!!! And we also plopped on the beach and did nothing with not another person around.

We will return.

Pelican Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We (two couples) spent a week at this amazing home on beautiful Friis Bay. The owners were extremely hospitable, available, and personable, making our stay their top priority. The home was well outfitted and had everything that you may need on a vacation getaway. If you do find yourself in need of anything, including provisions, there is a market only minutes away and another, larger market in Coral Bay (10 minutes down the road), along with plenty of restaurants and bars. The house is also within walking distance of a wonderful restaurant, however not too close to be noticeable on the quiet bay.

The views were breathtaking, and the swimming and snorkeling in the "back yard" was perfect. If you prefer more than one snorkeling site, there are many choices within a short drive.

The owners have a charter boat that we took advantage of as well. We chose to visit the BVIs, but other excursions are available depending on your preference. A great price and excellent captain made for a perfect trip. We highly recommend taking advantage of this separate option.

If I could give 10 stars, I would. We hope to return soon!

This home has it all...location, wonderful hosts, serenity, amenities, scenery, oceanfront and privacy. You will be wanting for nothing at Pelican Bay. The house is comfortable and immaculate. There are many wonderful outdoor options to enjoy at this waterfront property. Nancy and Jason are most accommodating, thoughtful and gracious hosts. Everything has been arranged at Pelican Bay to insure a wonderful vacation for you. Be sure to have Jason take you on his boat for a day or two. We loved everything about our stay!! We highly recommend this quiet and beautiful rental.

Lovely Private Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We found Pelican House online and wondered if it could be as wonderful as it looked online. We telephoned with endless questions so warmly and willingly answered by Nancy & Jason. That certainly invoked confidence. We were well instructed what to expect upon arrival to ST Thomas, how to ferry to ST John & where to meet them after we picked up our jeep. How nice to make that journey knowing that after we met, we would be escorted to the house to ensure we would find the home easily. So, how did we feel upon viewing this location that we hoped would be good? IT SURPASSED OUR EXPECTATIONS!!! We were promptly given the tour of our space and amenities. Few places are as good as advertised but how wonderful to see our spectacular view, and numerous spaces available to fit the mood. There is an amazing gazebo with comfortable furniture that is a space I can still close my eyes and imagine myself at. A separate outdoor deck for lounging, dining & grilling are at your disposal. Or simply walk down the steps to your private beach with chairs, kayaks, life vets. You can swim, snorkel, kayak or do nothing. The sea grape trees give shade to such a lovely spot. At the house there is also a screened living/dining space that was so comfortable. Two bedrooms but it was just my husband and myself so we chose the bedroom facing the water, standing up each day to the glory of our view and sleeping to the sounds of the waves. The kitchen is equipped with all you need but if you need something just ask. Soda, water and a bottle of rum was a nice gift to get us started on our vacation! Noodles to swim with, extra suntan lotion, beach towels, folding beach chairs to take around the island all there for your use. We covered the island with our jeep and went to so many of the beautiful beaches each with different attributes and snorkel opportunities. Saw barracuda, puffer, tarpon, mutton snapper, squid, and all the colorful fish you can imagine. Market nearby for emergency but better options/prices in Coral Bay. Went to Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins. Interesting and loved the view too. Saw mongoose, deer, iguana. We also took advantage of Jason's services as a boat captain. He met with us and arranged a trip tailored to us. I am extremely sensitive to motion so only did part of the trip but got to see sea stars & sea cucumbers. My husband spent a full day at sea, stops & BVI. He had a blast! Thx Jason & Nancy! Enough? GO! It's private, quiet & beautiful!

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

Pelican Beach is just as described by the owners and so much more. This is a rare property on the water with owners who go above and beyond. The love and attention that they have put into, and are continuing to put into, Pelican Beach is obvious. They take great pride in Pelican Beach and were always available for any questions we might have had. The provisions for their guests in terms of the fully equipped kitchen, the beds, furniture, etc. were exceptional. The outdoor space at Pelican Beach is amazing. There are so many areas in which to take it all in. My favorite spot was the water deck in the morning with my coffee watching the sunrise. Nancy and Jason also provide (at no extra charge) a kayak, paddle board, beach chairs, beach towels, etc.. Getting to Coral Bay is an adventure in itself, but so worth it! We would return to Pelican Beach and hope to in the future!
