About Doug

Born and raised in central Illinois, our family has been coming to the Islamorada, Florida Keys area for the past 14 years and have completely fallen in love with it. We recently took the plunge and bought this gorgeous home to enjoy with family and friends. We would be happy to talk to you about the 'must see' places to visit and dine while you are visiting the area.

Doug purchased this house in 2012

Why Doug chose Upper Florida Keys

Our home is located on the very southern part of Tavernier right next to Islamorada. The home has undergone a $400,000 renovation. It is beautifully furnished with Ethan Allen furniture and has lush tropical greenery throughout the property. The pocket doors across the front of the home completely open up to the upper outdoor veranda that runs the entire length of the home for that Florida Keys home feel. On the lower level by the pool and boat dock, there is an outdoor shower, fish fillet station and stairs that lead right into the ocean water. There is a large Weber stainless steel grill for cooking out.

What makes this house unique

You will love the beautiful ocean view and all there is to offer in the area such as great fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, water sports, shopping, local restaurants or just hanging out at the pool. We are close to the Tavernier Marina, Bud and Mary's Marina and Robbie's Marina. The Winne Dixie grocery store is a three minute drive away. Theater of the Sea and John Pennecamp State Park is nearby. There is nothing like the laid back atmosphere of the Keys. Relax at one of the many open air restaurants, have a cold drink a great meal and listen to live music while watching a spectacular sunset.

Amazing Home and an Incredible Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, myself and two small children stayed this past Easter at Mr. Daniels home in Tavernier. We cannot say enough about our vacation, the experience we had and the home. We fly down to the Keys once a year every year on our annual family vacation. This past trip ranks up at the top of our favorites ever. From minute one Mr. Daniels was the most accommodating property owner we've ever dealt with. Throughout our entire vacation and even afterwards you get a true sense of how Mr. Daniels really cares about your stay at his home and in the Keys! The House; The pictures do it no justice, trust me. The views from the 2nd floor deck, the sliding glass doors that open up the entire 2nd floor, the heated/secluded pool...all just amazing! Every morning started with coffee on the deck while the kids chased lizards and spotted iguanas, fished and tried to find different sea creatures (we had a barracuda visit almost every morning and even had a small nurse shark come right up to the bulkhead!) and every night ended with a glass of wine or a cocktail on the deck while you watch the moon glisten off the water and listen to the palm leaves rustle around you. The lights at night around the property and in the pool are spectacular. The landscaping, plants/flowers and trees make you feel like you are truly in paradise. The kids swam every morning and night and was a great way to start and finish a great day in the keys!! On days when you just wanted to stay back at the house and relax, the house had everything you needed. We made frozen drinks, used the Weber grill to grill up our fresh catch and relaxed on the pool lounge chairs or floated in the pool. Doesn't get much better than that. If you're looking for a true keys experience, a gorgeous newly renovated house and an owner who does everything possible to accommodate you and ensure you have an amazing vacation then stop looking and just book it and be done. Just don't book the week I want :) Enjoy!!

Great Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Just an amazing house. Everything you could ever need or want. The view was my favorite, every morning and evening each day it just got better and I never wanted to leave. The kids enjoyed the pool, and more so the coconuts. The little ones got to fish and we were lucky enough to have lots of them right off the dock. Mr. Daniels was amazing very attentive and helpful. I highly recommend this home. Look forward to another vacation there.

What an amazing house! Everything is pristine and beautiful.

The swimming pool was beautiful and landscaping also. We had many iguanas visit us while in the pool and my girls absolutely loved it!

The house is on a canal so it was perfect to rent a boat and dock it just outside so we could go fishing and snorkeling almost every day.

We will definitely be back.

We spent a fabulous week at this home and had a really wonderful experience. The house is exactly as it appears in the photographs and descriptions and is very comfortable. The house is well stocked with just about anything that you would need while on vacation and is centrally located to just about anything that you might be interested in doing. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

Great Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this home for two weeks in May. The owner was very responsive to any questions we had about the property before we came and during our visit. The home was clean and well maintained. The neighborhood was quiet. Easy access to the ocean and the bay. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a water front home in the keys.

In a word...Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

It was the best vacation we've had in The Keys in a long time. From the moment we arrived, it was perfect. The location idyllic. It sits on a lazy street, in a sleepy little neighborhood. It is great for relaxing yet close to all the places we've become accustomed to frequenting.

From the moment we entered the property we knew it was going to be amazing. The property is beautifully landscaped. When sitting on the pool deck, you are surrounded by lush vegetation which while beautiful, also provided a degree of privacy from the surrounding homes. We spent hours in the pool with the kids. We had kayaks and a paddleboard delivered from the Kayak Shack which we used to explore the canal and along the break wall. This became a daily ritual for the kids. Sitting on the upper deck at night, listening to the wind rustle the leaves, or just star gazing was a lovely, tranquil way to finish off the day. The pool area by night, stunning.

The house is exactly as pictured. The layout is open with a nice flow. Although spacious, you never feel too far away from the rest of your party. It is beautifully furnished, very clean, well maintained. The appliances top of the line. The color palette is reminiscent of the sea and quite soothing. Doug, our host has provided suggestions for where to eat, places to go. We had pizza from Chad's. I'm not a fan of pizza, but this was really good. We also tried the key lime cake from The Trading Post. It too was an excellent recommendation. The Hungry Tarpon at Robbie's Marina was another great spot to catch a bite and feed the tarpon(they were really hungry). Our hosts have thought of everything you might need from beach toys, stacks of reading material, puzzles and bikes which the kids put to good use. The downstairs room with the entertainment center and ping pong table was where we'd begin to wind down each evening with family movie night.

I can't say enough about our host, Doug. From our first inquiry to the end of our stay, and after, he was wonderful. He answered all our questions. He encouraged us to call if there were any problems(there were none), because he genuinely wanted us to have a lovely vacation. He was an absolute pleasure to work with and because of this, we did.

My niece who traveled with us, upon returning home, told her mom what a dream vacation she had had, and how now she was back to her old boring life. I'd have to agree with her. It was a dream vacation. We will definitely be back!
