Come and enjoy our beautiful victorian home The five large bedrooms, all have their own tv's and dvd players.
The master bedroom and bath combo, has it's own 12 x24 balcony, overlooking the ocean. The kitchen is well stocked and has room for more than one cook. The house has 47 windows providing a view anywhere you look. There is a large deck extending from the front door to the back. It provides plenty of room for your whole family. You can sit in the large living room and watch tv or go to the den and enjoy quiet reading time. The Castle has a large yard, sits in a quiet neighborhood and offers lots of privacy.
Many generations have passed since the first O'Neal was shipwrecked on Hatteras Island. The O'Neals once owned a large strip of land, in Rodanthe, that went from ocean to sound. Over time the land was divided up and passed down from one generation to another. With each generation the lots were getting smaller, and some were sold outside of the family. Our goal was to try and save as much family land as we could. We bought the Sea Sound Motel, a small 11 room, family run motel in 1997. It is located on Sea Sound Road. It was part of the original O'Neal property. The opportunity to buy the lot that the Castle sits on came up and we were excited.
How we got the name, Castle by the Sea. We briefly owned a hotel in the mountains of North Carolina called the Castle Hotel. The buildings were actually built like castles. When we sold it, much to our surprise, the new owners tore it down. One day we were talking about the Castle Hotel and remembering the fun times there with our grandsons. When we said we were sad we sold it one of our grandsons spoke up and said build a castle in Rodanthe. After looking at many house plans, we decided the victorian house was the most similar house to a castle. The name came easy. CASTLE BY THE SEA
Seasound Motel purchased this house in 2007
This house is amazing!! Well taken care of and beautiful. Short walk to the beach, great clean pool and all the amenities you would ever need...down to toys and board games for the children and family. We had 5 adults and 4 children ages 11 to 15 and there was plenty of room and plenty to do to keep you occupied. Fred and Sharon were very accommodating to us and were very, very nice. I would recommend this house to any and everyone. It is amazing and it was a great and very memorable vacation.
My family just returned from this perfect vacation home! You can't find a better location for this price. The house was super clean and we'll stocked. The pool was great when we didn't want to take the two minute walk to the beach. Very private and comfortable. Hot tub, laundry room, gas grill..everything my family needed to relax yet so close to stores and dining. Our party included myself, my husband, my parents and four small children ages 4-8. Can't wait to go back!!
This house is beautiful!!! There is plenty of room for all the family. The owner is very friendly and makes sure you are having a great vacation. The kitchen is well stocked for any cook. The pool is close and not crowded. The hot tub has a great view from the deck. Will definitely be back to this house!! Thanks Fred for an awesome vacation!!!
Staying here right now. The house is beautiful! And so clean! Also like the little extra touches like the rolled towels in the baskets in the bathrooms and kitchen. Pool is clean. Everything is well taken care of, and the owners are very friendly and are conscientious that all guest's needs are taken care of. Beds are very comfortable. Easy walk to the beach. Major grocery store is 20-30 minutes south depending on traffic, but well worth it because the house is so AWESOME!
Great family vacation rental! We had 5 adults and 5 kids and had plenty of room. Large yard was great for kids to run around and beach just 100 yards away. Great central location to visit both directions of the outer banks attractions. But the pool was the key to keeping the kids and parents happy! Highly recommended for families or groups 12 or fewer. Very pleasant owner to deal with!
We had a wonderful time at the castle by the sea. Even though we came late in the season the weather was beautiful. The sunrise and sunset were spectacular. The house was spotless and very comfortable for two big families. We brought some firewood and used the outside firepit and really enjoyed it. The owner is friendly and easy to get in touch with. We can't wait to come back!
The village of Rodanthe, with it's beautiful beaches and 'laid back' atmosphere, is centrally located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. If you just want to relax, read a book and enjoy uncrowded beaches, Rodanthe is the place to be. There is great fishing by boat, from the surf or at the pier located 1/2 mile from Castle by the Sea. Rodanthe Watersports offers bike rentals, kayaks and jet ski's for rent. Rodanthe is a kiteboarding and windsurfing paradise. If you aren't experienced and want to learn the watersports, lessons are available in the area. We do have a variety of restaurants and shops in Rodanthe.
25 miles south, in Buxton, sits the tallest lighthouse in North America. Cape Hatteras lighthouse is open to climbing if you are up to the challenge. The view is well worth the trip to the top.
Another 15 minutes further south you will arrive at the free ferry to Ocracoke Island. It is the home of the oldest lighthouse still in operation. Visit the quaint village of Ocracoke and learn the history of pirates including the famous Black Beard himself.
There are many shops, restaurants, and other things to do along the way.
Traveling north from Rodanthe you will cross the bridge at Oregon Inlet with beautiful views of the ocean and sound. If looking for an off shore charter Oregon Inlet is the place to stop. You can stop by in the afternoon and watch the charter boats unload the catches of the day. If looking for a soundside charter we can refer you to someone locally.
Five minutes further, north, is the Bodie Island Lighthouse with its rich history.
When you get to the stoplight straight ahead is Nags Head or left on 64 takes you to Manteo.
In Manteo you can see the longest running outdoor drama, The Lost Colony. Manteo is the homeport of the Elizabeth II which is a full size replica of the first English ship to visit the new world. Don't forget to visit the Aquarium. Its full of information and fun for kids. Elizabethian Gardens is located beside the lost colony and well worth a visit for its beauty and splendor. Take a walk through the streets of Manteo and visit the waterfront and many shops and restaurants.
On your way into Nags Head you can stop by Jockey's Ridge, the tallest sand dune on the East Coast and watch the hang gliders or if your brave enough take a lesson and join in.
Further north into Kill Devil Hills is the Wright Brothers Memorial. A tribute to America's first heavier than air flight. It has a large and very interesting museum. Along the way you will see putt putt courses, golf courses and a movie theatre.
