|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Built in 2011 with a commitment to simple beauty and harmony with its natural surroundings, this cabin was designed by my architect sister with input from our family. With its understated luxury it preserves the delicate spirit of the Appalachian nature and features the work of artists and craftsmen of the Celo Valley.
Our cabin has three bedrooms and a loft and sleeps 6 people comfortably. The large, partially covered deck offers majestic views and cool breezes, even in the summer.
If you want a true mountain experience - with all the luxuries of a modern, beautifully decorated cabin - this is it.
We live in Charleston SC and Tampa FL and love our getaways to the mountains of North Carolina - especially in the hot summer months. In the fall, the colors are beautiful and remind us of where we grew up in southern Ontario and Bavaria.
Lisa Steuer purchased this cabin in 2011
My husband and I bought our cabin in 2006 and immediately fell in love with the people and surroundings of the South Toe Valley. Five years later we joined with my architect sister and her husband to build this new, beautiful cabin on the neighboring property, so now more people can experience the beauty of this area. We hope you will join us soon!
Hiking (easy walking or more intense hikes), biking, rock climbing, gem mining, fishing - this property has it all.
The cabin is within walking distance of the Pisgah National Forest. You can walk all the way to Mt. Mitchell and never get in a car.
Having stayed at many vacation rentals, I can say this was truly the best experience of them all! The owners are wonderful - pleasant, responsive, and accommodating. The property is... PERFECTION! It had everything we could want. Absolutely stunning views from every room in the house - we woke to gorgeous sunrises across the mountains every morning, and just stared in awe throughout the day across the gorgeous valley. The location is remote - glad we didn't take the low-to-the-ground sport cars for mountain play time, as they would not have made it up the steep (but well-maintained) gravel road. Regular cars will be fine, if you happen to have four-wheel-drive, it's a breeze. That remoteness was exactly what we needed - no traffic, no sounds of neighbors. Just absolute peace and quiet.
The house itself is perfect - wonderfully planned, quality construction, superbly decorated - absolutely comfortable! The kitchen is awesome - clean design, great appliances, everything you might have at home and then some, from high-quality cutlery, a full set of very nice pots and pans and bakeware, an abundance of nice flatware (something lacking at many vacation rentals, where there is just a hodgepodge of random "extras" from home and a distinct lack of gadgetry one might need to properly cook a meal!) and even a drawer full of lint-free proper kitchen towels. Added touches like the apple slicer we happened to need, and the tea kettle we used daily, were just proof positive that these owners have thought of everything! The bedding and linens were all quite nice, the mattresses were a bit on the firm side if you're not used to that, but I found it quite comfortable. We loved hanging out in the family room chatting and laughing, and remarked several times how much we wanted to take those gorgeous, comfortable armchairs home.
For those who love the outdoors and exploring, there is plenty of hiking to do right from the property, and the owners can guide you on several local trails through neighboring properties. You'll definitely get your cardio in while enjoying gorgeous scenery! When you want to go exploring in town, there are plenty of little shops and great places to eat - we thoroughly enjoyed Snap Dragon and Pig and Grits in Burnside.
If you're considering staying at this home-away-from-home, JUST DO IT. You won't regret it, and you'll be looking for excuses to come back, like we are!
My family and another family stayed for a long weekend over Labor Day. The house was immaculate and had everything we could have possibly needed for a wonderful stay. The views off the deck were unbelievable - beautiful sunrise, and plenty of stars at night. Great location for hiking (we did Mount Mitchell), tubing, etc. Best Homeaway stay we've had so far. Couldn't have been better.
I stayed here over a long weekend with a group of friends. "Cabin with a View" is beautiful; the pictures don't do it justice. Spacious, lots of sleeping options and beautiful outside views. I rent from Homeaway several times a year and this is by far the nicest home I have rented to date.
What a wonderful stay we had at 'A cabin with a view' and it does have a wonderful view situated on a quiet site with hikes available straight out of the front door. The cabin is very comfortable, tastefully decorated without being too 'cabiney' and has everything that you would need. We had 4 young adults with us and thought that they may have become restless but no, we hiked, played games, ate and chatted and only once had the TV on for a movie night.
Lisa was so prompt replying to my messages and helped to make this trip so very special.
Cabin with a View is tucked into a mountainside near the quaint village of Micaville. Driving in from the west you'll get stunning views of the Blue Ridge. The road up to the cabin is very steep and had it been snowy or icy, we might have had difficulty getting up there, but it is certainly worth it! The cabin is situated beautifully overlooking the South Toe river valley and the mountains beyond.
The cabin itself is refined yet rustic and smells of freshly milled pine and fireplace when you enter. It was sparklingly clean upon arrival. It's almost impossible to escape the views in this cabin-- each of the bedrooms and the living room has a spectacular view. The kitchen is very well stocked and has plenty of space for whatever you might need to cook. We were able to make Christmas dinner for four with absolute ease.
The cabin is beautifully appointed with original artwork in every room, comfortable couches and chairs. The beds were made up with crisp fresh linens. We LOVED the big clawfoot tub in the ground floor bathroom! There was plenty of firewood outside and inside by the fire.
The WiFi was good, but as anticipated, the rural DSL internet service is a bit spotty so I wouldn't come expecting to spend lots of time trying to do anything on the web that requires a fair bit of bandwidth. There is a sitting room with a TV on the second floor, though it needs an HDMI cable from the Blu Ray player (I think it's a regular analog cable so the movie we watched was in standard definition).
There is a very well stocked Ingles grocery store in Burnsville and we spied a coffee shop and bakery right at the bottom of the road (it was closed due to the holiday unfortunately). In spite of the rain we had, we hiked the lovely national forest trails accessible if you hike up the road about two switchbacks. You'll see a rough road into the woods on the left. Drive ten or so miles south and you can hike Mount Mitchell, Mount Marion and visit Roaring Fork Falls (pretty impressive after a lot of rain). We found the neighbors to be exceptionally friendly people when we encountered them on walks as well.
We would absolutely recommend this property to anyone looking for a cozy, pine-scented escape from the hustle and bustle! Lisa was very easy to work with and quick with her responses!
Please read all these great reviews! Please read our first review dated 7/8/2014. This is our second, and hopefully Not our last.
We love love love this community, the owners, and this cabin.
Everything is so accessible from Cabin With A View. We added a few new things to our experience this year, including a hike on the Mossy Path through the Rhododendron Forrest at the top of the hill, dinner in the Burnsville town center, Hiking down to Crabtree Falls, visiting Emerald Village, and New Switzerland!
We spend the 4th in Asheville, and the week leading up to it exploring the area!
We conquered Mt. Mitchell again, and loved the crew at NOC who guided our rafting experience down the French Broad!
Come. Enjoy. Rest Assured.
Perfect Family Getaway! Kiddos Ages 9-19.
This cabin offers a relaxing escape from hectic city life. Here you will find restful recreation in the open arms of nature. If you love to hike, bike and fish, then you'll fall in love with the South Toe River Valley and the Pisgah National Forest. There are miles and miles of hiking trails and roads for biking and rivers for fishing. Through tunnels of dark-green branched rhododendron and flame azaleas, you can walk right from our cabin to Mount Mitchell. If the focus of your vacation is to explore the craft studios of the Appalachian Mountains, then you've come to the right place. There are over 200 potters, glassblowers, metalworkers and jewelry makers within a forty mile radius of our cabin. Penland School of Crafts is about a thirty minutes drive from Celo.
