Jeff Tesch purchased this cabin in 2008
When this property came up for sale in 2008 we bought it immediately because of the natural beauty of the location.
We have kayaked from the cabin to our house in Dresbach, MN, a roughly 3.5 hour paddle down the Black River to its confluence with the Mississippi River. The waterways are gently flowing and inhabited by eagles, herons, otters, beavers, deer, ducks and other wildlife of all kinds.
In 2010, the existing cottage was stripped down to the framing lumber and completely renovated with new electrical, plumbing, septic system, dry wall, floor tile, windows, doors, kitchen cabinets, appliances and furnishings.
Had a great stay even though weather wasn't as good as we wanted. Were able to fish both by the cabin (be careful when in canoe) and on Lake Onalaska and caught some, had a fire last night (moskitos were bad but we braved it), ate at Red Pines (great place) and the Frosty Mug in Holmen (old fashion style ice cream place and very good. Visited the Shrine and went mini golf too. So all in all a great vacation. The cabin is well equipped and very inviting and the Teschs' even left a welcome note in the door for us. Will be back.
We have been renting vacation homes for years and found this cottage to be one of the cleanest, most well-equipped and well-maintained units we have experienced yet. The personal investment, energy and pride which the owners have given to it are quite evident. The location is private, yet within easy driving distance of necessary services. The region is lovely with a variety of activities and sites well worth exploring, should one not be into outdoor recreational activities, which happen to abound. Jeff is both prompt in responding and excellent in communicating. We could not have been more pleased and would highly recommend it!
We rented this cabin mostly because it was close to family, however we were pleasantly surprised at how clean and nice it was, especially with it being pet-friendly. We could not tell pets have even been there! BBQ grill was a bonus, as was the garage--convenient to town, nice decor--owner was nice to deal with--we will and have recommended this cabin and will book ourselves again! Thanks Jeff
My wife and I have stayed at several VRBO rentals over the years, and this place is one of the nicest. The cabin is spotless and well equipped. We brought our black lab Mackie who had a wonderful time swimming, fetching, chasing squirrels, and even playing with the owner's black lab one day. Not many places will accept pets these days, so we were fortunate to find this place. It is also very close to where my daughter lives, so we got to spend some time with her. I caught a nice 31" blue catfish our first night there, and missed several others. We had several campfires down by the river while fishing at the same time. There are tons of places to go and things to do in the area. Also good places to eat such as Red Pines on Lake Onalaska and the Hungry Point Bar and Trempealeau Hotel in Trempealeau (8 miles away). The only thing that is not obvious from the pics and description is the hill down to the river is bigger than it looks. You will get a bit of a workout going back and forth, which is a good thing. It's a great place and we had a great time. Will definitely go back.
Very clean and nice place to stay. We saw at least 15 bald eagles soaring in the sky. It was kind of rainy out during our stay so we didn't have a fire down by the river, it looked like it would have been fun. Cabin is on a dead end street and the neighbor across the street was very nice to talk to. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone. Lots to do in the surrounding area.
The Black River is a pristine sand bottom river perfect for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, rafting and fishing with many sloughs and channels to explore. Van Loon Wildlife Refuge, Great River State Bicycle Trail, Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge, private airport, Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge, Perrot State Park and other natural attractions are within a few minutes drive from cabin.
