A designer furnished town house overlooking the Mediterranean, with shared swimming pool for 7 houses, ten minutes walk from a 10 km sandy beach and the old fishing village of Peniscola. The owner (interior designer) has furnished the house for her own use and thus equipped it to a very high standard. There are 3 bedrooms and 3 Bath/shower rooms. On three levels each with a large terrace all bedrooms and terraces have a view of the 12th Century castle (Featured in El Cid). There is a private driveway (1 car). Within a 10 minute drive of Sierra de Irta National Park, the coastline, one of the least populated in Spain, has many hidden coves. Valencia 70 minutes, Barcelona 2 hours by car or train. The competition Panoramica golf course is a 35 minute drive through spectacular countryside. This very Spanish resort is still relatively undiscovered.
The house looks directly on to the old town of Peniscola, a walled fishing village, a peninsula made famous by the
Papa Luna, the Knights Templars and the film El Cid, (filmed in the town in 1962) There are also views of the fishing port and of the Mediteranean, straight up to the Delta del Ebre (visible on clear days) This very traditional Spanish holiday town has remained very Spanish and is a popular holiday resort with the inhabitants of Zaragoza, Barcelona and Valencia, all within easy drving distance. There are very few properties with this view available for rental.
a multilingual, interior designer who loves cooking. Scottish, but has lived all over Europe.
Linda Shoppee purchased this house in 1999
Bought from new due to a very nice design and the most spectacular views. It has been equipped to a very high standard for the owners own use and caters well for those who love to cook, a pleasure given the wealth of cheap locally grown produce.
The view is one of the best in Peniscola and three very large terraces face the old town and the castle surrounded by the mediterranean so a mixture life and calm. All bedrooms face the castle. This is a very rare rental property with ugh a view and so close to the town and beaches.
We stayed during the October School holidays with our three boys (3,6,14), it was a great place to stay, plenty of room with amazing views, (no need for an expensive Restaurant Ard Na Mar has the best table in town!). The location was perfect for us as we could walk down the hill into Peniscola each evening, the children could play in the play parks and on the beach and we enjoyed walking along the promenade. The house is everything you would expect from the photos, very well equipped and a home from home. Linda was very helpful from start to finish and we would thoroughly recommend staying here. The locals were very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed chatting with them and they didn't seem to mind our poor Spanish! The Tourist Information Office on the beach front is definitely worth a visit, very informative. Sierra d'Irta is worth a visit and a great drive if you don't mind the bumps, beaches are unspoilt and empty, would also recommend walking up into the hills great views. Go inland if you get chance Morella and Vilafames worth a trip.
Overall great holiday, thank you Linda.
The house itself is in a lovely quiet residential area, still within walking distance to the beach and restaurants, if you don't mind abit of a hill climb. There is a great view of the castle and 3 lovely terraces to enjoy a drink on. It is nicely decorated throughout and has definately has some 'pizazz' (Linda's artistic touch?)The kitchen was very well stocked and we had everything we needed. It was clean and well presented, there was plenty of room for the 5 of us and easily enough showers and toilets. Whilst the pool is shared between 6 houses, we often had it to ourselves, even though it was high season. We were in Peniscola during August which was hot, the ceiling fans in all the rooms helped but sometimes my husband prefered the 2 bedrooms downstairs which were cooler than the main one at the top of the house. We've stayed in many self catered homes and we all agreed that this is the best one we have stayed in. Peniscola itself and the main beach were perhaps a bit too busy for our liking, (best outside school hols?) but we loved being able to escape to the wild beaches in the Sierra d'Irta. Also, because the house was up the hill away from the hustle and bustle, we felt that we could easily leave the resort when we had had enough and have some quiet time chilling at 'home'. All in all a great hol.
We stayed 15 nights in this holiday house. All was as good as described in the internet pages. View from house to Peniscola old town and to the sea was great. Beaches and restaurants were in walking distance. Both cities, Barcelona and Valencia are with easy access by car, it is only 2 hours to drive from Barcelona airport.
Rooms and bathrooms were clean, kitchen was very well equiped for cooking. Washing machine worked perfectly.
This house is good for holiday for family up to 6 members, I can highly recommend. Owner was also very helpful and flexible.
We have spent a number of memorable breaks in Peniscola, the most notable being last September during the local fiesta. On each occasion we have rented the Ard Na Mar property which has arguably the best outlook on the Costa Del Azahar. The property is very spacious, and is on three levels, each with its own balcony overlooking the garden and pool.
The house is in a quiet area overlooking Peniscola, with wonderful views of the Castel de Papa Luna. Surrounded by quaint old towns, superb beaches and an abundance of excellent restaurants, we would think that for a carefree relaxing holiday you would struggle to find better accomodation.
WE LOVE IT.

I reside in Florida, USA. My husband and I have enjoyed other major cities in Europe but we wanted to find a nice vacation town to relax in without all the city stresses and expenses. After extensive searching on the internet we found this wonderful place which suited our needs. Beautiful house with very nice amenties, kitchen with everything you might need and a view that is out of this world. The house itself is beatuifully decorated and furnished. Families and couples looking for a relaxing vacation would have a wonderful time here and it is very affordable. Peniscola is such a charming place. Great places to eat, wonderful retail fish establishments and a few cocktails to enjoy the real Spanish culture. The beach is right there and so accessable.....wonderful!
The historic village of Peniscola, made famous by the film El Cid is still a working fishing port with boats landing fish for auction on weekdays. Situated north of the Sierra de Irta National Park which is one of the most sparsely populated coastlines in Spain. Within day trip distance to Valencia and Barcelona the village has a 10 km sandy beach and crystal blue sea. There is a competition golf course 35 minutes drive. The Delta del Ebre is a 40 minute drive and a favourite with bird watchers, rare waders including flamingos can be spotted in the rice plantations. The town of Morella in the mountains is another favourite day trip. The house is walking distance to the town centre and the main beach.
