Elk Mountain Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, spacious open area

You have found the only vacation rental on beautiful Duck Harbor Pond. At 2 miles long and a half mile wide, it is not a 'pond' but a private glacial lake, perfect for any water sport.

***We are re-opening April 1st. To celebrate our APRIL SPECIAL is "Book 2 nights and get the 3rd night FREE! (Book your 2 nights online and I will add your 3rd night to my calendar). All Weekly booking include one night free!

Pack your clothes, personal items, and food. We provide most everything else. A detailed list may be requested. We are only 3 hours from NYC and Philadelphia. Lehigh Valley is only 2 hours away.

Enjoy the calmness of the lake in the morning, afternoon activities, and evening sunsets from the rocking chairs on the covered porch. Our resident Blue Herons and Bald Eagles can be seen frequently.

Family fun and enjoyment was the focus of our design. We considered families with special needs by including a handicap ramp and 36 inch doorways on the main floor.

New this year is a 40 inch flat screen in the living room and a 32 inch flat screen in the Master bedroom.

Guests with allergies will do well in this house since there are all wood floors with no carpeting, no pets, and no smoking.

* We are in a rural area and currently only have Verizon cell service. We provide free long distance calling from our land line.

Although we focus on families, this is ideal for couples or any group of 6 or less.

About Elaine Wells

Honest and hard working are words we have heard to describe us. We have shared many adventures in the 40 years we have been married. Although we are both technically 'retired', we are always working on a project. In the fall of 2011, we purchased a run down cottage on Duck Harbor Pond. Over the winter we tore it down and in the spring of 2012 we started building this new log cabin. The design and most of the labor was done by us. We hope you will appreciate our pride in workmanship and love every minute you spend in our cabin.

Elaine Wells purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Elaine Wells chose Elk Mountain

We are blessed to be permanent residents in our own log cabin at Duck Harbor Pond. Sharing our piece of 'Paradise' with others in this new this cabin has been a great pleasure.

What makes this cabin unique

ECO-Friendly and respect for nature and our environment. The logs and all wood are locally grown and processed. From the lights and windows to the appliances and granite, our choices reflect energy efficiency and organic materials.

AMAZING!!!

  • 5 of 5

I simply can not rave enough about this house! It is beyond immaculate! Truly spotless!!!! Elaine has thought of EVERYTHING you could need. Seriously everything. All you need to do is to pack clothes - the rest is taken care of! The whole house is unbelievably clean, well laid out AND child friendly. What can I say about the location except that it is perfect. Simply perfect. You immediately feel relaxed upon arrival. The lake is quiet and serene. The neighbors are lovely. The yard is perfect for the children to play in. The lake is easily accessible for the children. The list can go on and on.

Also you could not ask for a more attentive owner. Elaine was very quick to answer a text or call and went out of her way to assist us in finding a clinic to see my child when he had an ear infection. She even called the next day to check up on him! So kind and thoughtful.

In short, We loved our stay last summer and are counting down the days until we can return this and many more summers to come.

Fantastic time at Duck Harbor!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful stay! The cabin was fantastic, immaculate, well appointed and thoughtfully laid out. Jim and Elaine were very helpful and hospitable. It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy family and the lake. My only disappointment was that boats or kayaks weren't available for use and the nearest boat rental was 25 miles away and quite expensive. We were lucky to have friends that let us borrow a canoe and kayak. Be sure to make arrangements for a boat rental before you arrive.

Owner's Response: thank you for mentioning the boats. Sadly, our insurance will not allow us to provide any watercraft. There is a great company, NEWE, less than 15 miles away which rents kayaks for $35 a day (24 hours), including life jacket and paddle. You can pick them up or they will deliver them right to the cabin for a nominal fee. I have the contact info for NEWE on my listing.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed a long weekend at this beautiful, clean and nicely decorated lakefront cabin. The pictures did not do it justice. Elaine and Jim were the perfect hosts. They called shortly after our arrival to make sure we got there safely and had no difficulty with directions. The beds were made with fresh linens, fresh towels were in all of the bathrooms and kitchen, the kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with toilet paper, hand soap, air freshener, dish washing liquid, dishwasher soap, laundry soap and paper towels. A pack and play complete with a sheet and blanket and a small life jacket were provided for our granddaughter which was extremely thoughtful of Elaine. A gas grill with a full propane tank and firewood for the fire ring were welcome additions. Our family had a wonderful time swimming in the lake, fishing, sitting by a warm fire, relaxing on the porch and grilling. The neighbors were extremely friendly and helpful. What more does one need? Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cabin on the lake. Wonderful memories were made here!

Great cabin in a great area!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cabin with five of my friends, who all used to go to a sleep-away camp 5 minutes from the cabin for an camp alumni weekend. The community surrounding the cabin is a very tight knit community with the nicest of people. The location could not be more perfect, being 15 minutes from good shopping and restaurants, but also having the lake as your backyard. For the actual cabin, it was clean and fitting six people with the 2.5 bathrooms was extremely comfortable. My favorite part of the cabin is the backyard, which is on the lake, and has a BBQ, which my friends and I used for dinner, and it was awesome hanging outside as the sun began to set. Elaine and her husband were extremely nice and helpful. As I know many friends who rent cabins/homes in the area and have seen their cabins, I can assure you that this is the best one in the area.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jarad. We have heard from many guests that ours was the nicest place they ever rented. We are very proud of our cabin and appreciate the great guests we have had. We are the only "rental cabin" in our very family oriented neighborhood.

Family Time

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful, clean (immaculate,) quiet cabin. We are a family of four, our children are 12 & 13. I was so happy with how thoughtful the owner was in her beautiful decor as well as the planning that went into the supplies in the bedrooms/ bathrooms/kitchen etc. It was easy staying there. The lake is a perfect size to explore with a canoe or a kayak. My kids enjoyed swimming and fishing too. The town of Honesdale (about 15-20 min away) is adorable and has a lot of good choices for shopping and dining out. The neighbors were very friendly too! We had a great time!
