About the property

Comfortable, accessible 2 bedroom, 2 bath in the NC Mountains

Enjoy a game of golf at Mountain Glen Golf Club or take a short drive to Grandfather Mountain or Linville Falls, drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway or go hiking or rafting, see the stalagtites at Linville Caverns and then come back to appreciate the sunset from the living room window. In winter, enjoy a day of skiing or sledding at nearby Beech Mountain or Sugar Mountain. Jonas Ridge Snow Tubing is also nearby. Return home, build a snowman and enjoy the gas log fireplace which takes the mountain chill off the evenings. Experience our fully appointed kitchen if you choose to eat in or venture out to local restaurants in nearby Linville, Banner Elk, Boone, or even Asheville. Enjoy the Wooly Worm Festival, Valle Crucis Fair, Music on the Mountaintop, Land of OZ, Singing on the Mountain, Highland Games, Shag at Sugar, Oktoberfest at Sugar Mt., Arts and Crafts shows, and much more. Then return a short distance to the quiet of your mountain getaway.

About Deborah Thurston

Grandma & Grandpa built this house to be close to their grandchildren. Now we want to share this lovely spot with you

Deborah Thurston purchased this house in 1982

Why Deborah Thurston chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge Mountains are a magical place to live. This house is right in the woods and has many windows so you seem to be outside even when you are in. There are many different birds, and a family of foxes. The cool evening mountain air is just the thing after a warm summer day.

What makes this house unique

After a day of shopping, hiking, walking, or sightseeing, this is a cozy and comfortable home to return to. It is near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls & Linville Caverns. Avery County is centrally located so you can be in Blowing Rock or Boone in 30 miniutes or less or venture further to Black Mountain or Asheville.

A great weekend getaway with everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

This was perfect for our ski weekend! The house is very spacious with a great enclosed porch.

We loved the views. The house is located very close to Newland and is convenient to several good restaurants. Despite how close it is to town, it has the feel of a very remote mountain vacation house.

I can't say enough about how comfortable this place is. It was everything I had hoped for and more. I would absolutely recommend it for anyone wanting to stay close to the Sugar or Beech Mountain Ski Resorts. It is also close to Grandfather Mountain.

We are all so happy we were able to spend time here and hope to return again soon!

Great Location with a Beautiful View

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this vacation home over the holidays. It was well stocked with everything we needed and the fireplace was very cozy. The views are amazing! The owner is very courteous and even sent us directions on how to get to the home before our visit. She was prompt answering questions and we felt at home while staying here. I would definitely book here again!

A lovely home with a great view and close to town

  • 5 of 5

This vacation home was so nice! It had many separate seating areas so you could always find a peaceful spot. The rooms were well supplied, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Even the bed sheets smelled wonderful! The sunset and early morning views of the mountains out the windows were glorious. The house is located conveniently close to town, but the city noise is minimal. I definitely recommend this home!
