Overview

Newland House Rental Photos and Description

Comfortable, accessible 2 bedroom, 2 bath in the NC Mountains

Located in scenic Avery County, secluded yet close to town, Alpenhaus is located at over 4000 ft. The house features 2 enclosed decks and is surrounded by woods on 3 sides. Wake up to green trees outside your bedroom window or watch the sunrise reflected on the mountains. Look out for foxes as you enjoy breakfast on the south facing deck. In autumn, watch the leaves change from green to hues of red and gold. Enjoy a game of golf at Mountain Glen Golf Club or take a short drive to Grandfather Mountain or Linville Falls, drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway or go hiking or rafting, see the stalagtites at Linville Caverns and then come back to appreciate the sunset from the living room window. In winter, enjoy a day of skiing or sledding at nearby Beech Mountain or Sugar Mountain. Jonas Ridge Snow Tubing is also nearby. Return home, build a snowman and enjoy the gas log fireplace which takes the mountain chill off the evenings. Experience our fully appointed kitchen if you choose to eat in or venture out to local restaurants in nearby Linville, Banner Elk, Boone, or even Asheville. Enjoy the Wooly Worm Festival, Valle Crucis Fair, Music on the Mountaintop, Land of OZ, Singing on the Mountain, Highland Games, Shag at Sugar, Oktoberfest at Sugar Mt., Arts and Crafts shows, and much more. Then return a short distance to the quiet of your mountain getaway.

About Deborah Thurston

Grandma & Grandpa built this house to be close to their grandchildren. Now we want to share this lovely spot with you

Deborah Thurston purchased this house in 1982

Why Deborah Thurston chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge Mountains are a magical place to live. This house is right in the woods and has many windows so you seem to be outside even when you are in. There are many different birds, and a family of foxes. The cool evening mountain air is just the thing after a warm summer day.

What makes this house unique

After a day of shopping, hiking, walking, or sightseeing, this is a cozy and comfortable home to return to. It is near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls & Linville Caverns. Avery County is centrally located so you can be in Blowing Rock or Boone in 30 miniutes or less or venture further to Black Mountain or Asheville.

Lovely Cabin with a great view!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely weekend with friends - the view was fantastic, and the house was welcoming. Sleeps 4 easy, pull out couch for more sleeping. Kitchen was cozy, but everything was there. Two bathrooms. Lots of windows. Steep street could be a little intimidating at night. We would definitely stay here again.

Great time!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great stay. The place was perfect for us, had everything we needed. There was a beautiful mountain view. The owners could not be more accommodating and easy to work with. We took the trip because we were attending a wedding but have talked about a return visit just because we had a great time.

Very nice and cozy

  • 4 of 5

We recently stayed from Saturday until Monday. The house is super cozy and comfy. The views from the windows and porches are awesome, especially at dusk when the lights of Newland, in the valley below, start to glow. The gas logs warmed the place up fast. There's 2 grocery stores, a CVS and numerous "normal" service business' that I didn't expect in this small town. There were even a few thrift stores we visited.

We will likely rent this property again, if available, next trip to this area.

Loved the house and its view!

  • 5 of 5

The view from this property is almost 360 degrees and is awesome. The leaves were changing, which provided the most beautiful scenery. The house offers an enclosed porch, so you can take in the view from either inside the house or sitting in the comfort of the porch. The house itself is well stocked, with plenty of cookware, kitchen utensils and basic cooking needs. There is a wonderful Lowe's grocery store in Newland, for whatever else you might need. Beds were comfortable, the house was warm and cozy. It was a great stay, one which I hope to repeat next year.

Was an amazing mountain getaway experience!

  • 5 of 5

I forgot to review this property, but it is a good sign that a year later I am still thinking about it. We highly enjoyed this experience. It snowed while we were here and being on top of a small mountain my beach children were in heaven enjoying the snow. We would love to go back and recommend it to all. Jonas Tubing was so much fun and not far away!
