Very cute little cottage for two. It is well maintained and well-stocked and the owners were very gracious and informative. It's as well placed as anywhere in Acadia for all the varied and wonderful places to hike and villages to explore.

Character, Comfort and Convenience
This was our first trip to Mt. Desert Island/Acadia National Park. After doing some research we decided we didn't really want to be in Bar Harbor and opted for something on the quiet side of the island. I'm glad we chose the Seamist Cottage. It turned out to be a comfortable "home" base for our explorations. We took advantage of being close to several wonderful restaurants in the Bass Harbor/Bernard/Southwest Harbor area. There's a gas station/convenience store just down the road that turned out to be our go-to place for getting picnic supplies to eat for lunch after morning hikes. This location is also very close to Bass Harbor Head Light, Wonderland and Ship Harbor trails, as well as Seawall picnic area (good for an evening of watching the waves and stargazing at night). It is also a short drive to get to some wonderful trails like Flying Mountain, Beech Mountain, Echo Lake, etc. Besides all of that, it was a quick, scenic drive to get to other side of the island to enjoy the park loop road and all it has to offer.
You can pretty well tell what the cottage is like from the pictures, except that it was lighter and brighter than I expected -- there are nice windows to let the light in during the day and also to let the breeze in when the temps are appropriate. When we stayed there were some chilly nights, but the heater worked well for us. There were plenty of trees so that you felt sort of secluded and woodsy. We appreciated the decor, the large closet, the local wildlife (we did have deer coming up close to the cottage and the squirrels were fun to watch), the comfortable bed, a nice assortment of books and trail guides, extra pillows and blanket, and even the cozy throw on the sofa. Although we didn't cook any meals in the cottage, we did take advantage of having a full size refrigerator for leftovers and using the dishes and utensils for some light breakfast items and the night we brought pizza back to the cottage to eat.
We loved our vacation in Maine and having a nice place to stay that didn't break the bank was a big part of it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage. It is the perfect size for a couple. Be aware that there are stairs and the bedroom and bathroom are up those stairs. Also, be aware that the cottage is attached to the main 2-story house you see in the pictures. So you may hear voices once in a while when you are downstairs at the cottage. However, we felt the cottage offered plenty of privacy.
Great For A Couple
Seamist Cottage Apartment is a cozy place for a couple to spend time in a beautiful spot. There is a nice ocean theme. With lots of wonderful lighthouse pictures. Seamist cottage is nice and clean which is so important to us. The furniture is comfortably homey. We felt very much at home. The only draw back was the path to the door. It could use some work done on it.
A sturdy charming cottafe
Tucked into a cozy wooded nook our stay at Seamist was a peaceful retreat from the hustle bustle of Bar Harbor and Acadia. During this hot humid week, we were grateful for the extra fan our hosts purchased and delivered.
