About Don Ptacnik
Don Ptacnik (say-Tack Nick) and Marline were married under the large White Paper Birch located in the yard between The Cottage and their home. Years later, one of our daughters was also married in the yard. That ceremony took place on the small terrace just outside The Cottage. We love our home and the large yard within which The Cottage is located. Between us, we have three adult children and eight grandchildren. Marline is a retired health care executive and Don, your primary host is Marline's Gardener and Painter. We both enjoy people and sharing our secluded space in Downtown Bend. Don has lived in central Oregon for over 45 years and has participated in a number of activities which has provided him with a broad base of knowledge in the available outdoor opportunities. You are welcome to ask for suggestions ranging from the best hikes, automobile tours, bicycle trails/routes to the hidden jewels of coffee shops, museums and other cultural offerings. We want our guests to be pleasantly surprised by the luxury and charm of The Cottage, the grounds and of course, the overall experience. We recognize guests have numerous choices competing for their entertainment dollars and want to provide excellent value and a memorable experience. When every guest departs our goal is to hear them say ...”We will return and will recommend The Second Street Cottage to all our friends”. So far, so good!

Best place to stay in Bend, OR
I love this cottage and felt right at home. You can't beat the location for walkability as it is close to downtown and the river. The owners take such good care of you and the cottage has everything you need. They have thought of everything and are so responsive!!

We try to immediately respond to any concern; if even just a faulty light bulb. We also strive to ask permission to enter the Cottage, even if just to replace the bulb. Perhaps you might stop by and see the gardens later this Spring. Some of the flowering plants are already starting to emerge for an early show of color.
And thanks for mentioning the seclusion of the Cottage yet proximity to downtown and the river. In just 2-3 minutes one can walk from the Cottage to the river and 4-5 minutes to downtown. Sandwiched between the Newport and Portland Ave, the Cottage is well away from traffic noises AND you can here the Deschutes river pouring over the Mirror Pond DAm spillway.

Thanks for the review. We do try to make the Cottage a "home" for our extended stay guests too. Whether staying for a few nights or several months, just about all anyone needs to bring is their toys, clothes, and personal care items.
Best Place to Stay in Bend
This cottage is very well appointed and did not disappoint. It is close to downtown and within walking distance to many good restaurants. The host is very attentive and works hard to make sure everything is in order.

The Absolute Best Place to Stay in Bend, Oregon!
My wife and I just returned from a 2 week long Oregon vacation. We spent the first week at the Second Street Cottage in Bend and we loved it! The Cottage is immaculately clean, perfectly located, and incredibly well-stocked with everything you could possibly need to have an amazing, entertaining, and relaxing stay in Bend. Within walking distance there is a great grocery store (Newport Avenue Market), a great place to rent bicycles (Sunnyside Sports),. and oodles of places to eat. The grounds are stunningly landscaped - we enjoyed relaxing on the awesome patio behind the Cottage each evening. Each day we made sure we returned from our adventures in time to enjoy the sunset. Don and Marline are the perfect hosts - they are there if you need them but they respect your privacy as well. Don knows everything Bend has to offer and he suggested two great adventures that we would not have discovered without his guidance. This is easily the best vacation rental property that we have ever experienced. Thanks Don and Marline!
Thank you for the glowing review and mentioning how we respect our guests' privacy. The Cottage is situated at the rear of our .25+ downtown acre property. It has its own dedicated off street parking and private entry. The ground were on the 2012 Central Oregon Master Gardeners' tour which attests to the landscaping being a "cut above". And there is great separation between the Cottage and our home, affording privacy for our guests with each of us enjoying our own patios. Most importantly, each time we walk toward the Cottage patio, we (the hosts) ask permission to approach. Our Cottagers' comfort and privacy are paramount. Please do come back.

We have stayed at vrbo’s throughout the U.S. and Europe and Don’s rental is by far the nicest and best equipped accommodation we’ve ever stayed at - from shampoo to salad dressings to beach towels to champagne. The location is excellent for exploring Bend on foot and central Oregon by car. We would highly recommend this rental to anyone.

Marline and I recognize that every guest, regardless of reason for traveling, has a finite amount of time in Bend. Thus, we try to anticipate what guest's might need or seek. From non-perishable spices and condiments to quality hair care products, to various sizes of cooler / ice chests., we have you covered. And as the seasons change, we rotate art work, bedding and comforters to match.

All legal lodging operations will have a City Short Term Rental Lodging license and a State Lodging Business Identification Number (BIN).
