Born and raised, living most of our lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, attending local schools and universities.
Larry Kaplan and Marie Champlin purchased this house in 2010
We both have traveled extensively throughout the world, only to find that our property is located in a world class location with picturesque views of the East Bay and San Francisco, within walking distance of hiking trails in open space of the Berkeley Hills, affording 360 degree views of the San Francisco Bay Area. Our home is located in a very quiet and serene location, consisting of 1960's Mid-Century and Bohemian architecture.
The home has southwest facing views, and decks towards San Franciso and the Bay, constructed almost exclusively of wood interiors and exterior. One experiences such a feeling of serenity and joy looking out over the natural and Bay views, with its dramatically everchanging scenes from sunlight to fog!
The apartment is a bit up in the hills. Thus it has a tremendously nice view from the very large deck. It is in walking distance from UC Berkeley's campus, but if you live there with children it is advisable to have a car as otherwise carrying up groceries etc is a bit hard. We enjoyed a lot our stay in the apartment, the landlords were very kind and helpful, and we are grateful that they even borrowed us a child seat for our rental car. Close to the apartment there are very nive paths in the forest. We walked often along the long firetrail with an amazing view over the whole bay area.
For us, my wife and I, this was an excellent rental.
It had an excellent location with roads reminiscent of european switchbacks. It was suspended on the side of the hill, thus providing spectacular views of the cities and bay. The apartment was large and bright, with 10ft of sliding glass doors in each of the main rooms; living/dining and two bedrooms. There was a large deck across the entire back with entry from all 3 rooms.
The apartment is 38 or 39 steps down or up and was not an issue for us; we went out and up or in and down only once a day. We packed two medium suitcases rather than one large, with these steps in mind.
Our hosts were very responsive to the few minor concerns we had.
This is a college, faculty or student, area and the apartment fits that environment. This would have been a five star review had the vertical blinds covering the sliding glass doors worked and shielded us from the city glow and first light of dawn we awoke to each morning.
This place has its ups and downs but cannot be matched for its value and view.
A very nice place to stay while visiting Berkeley. It is within walking distance of UC Berkeley's campus, Telegraph, and University. The apartment has terrific views and a large deck. A short way up the hill are nice hiking trails. I would definitely consider staying there again!
Fantastic location in the hills of Berkeley. You will look down on the bay from the private drive Panoramic Way. The view from the deck and hills behind the house are simply amazing, you can't imagine much of a better location in the bay. So nice you will find it hard to leave in the morning, but if you do 15 minute walk to the heart of Berkeley and within an hour drive of all major Bay Area hot spots... Ideally located is what I'm getting at. Great wildlife right in the backyard and Larry has a bunch of cool bird books and nature identifiers.
The house is very comfortable and has all necessities. I was very happy with my stay here, couldn't have imagined a better spot.
We spent 3 weeks in Larry's apartment. It is spacious and the views are breathtaking!
The apt is very cosy, the hiking trails are within a short walk. 15 min walk to Telegraph area and University.
Ideal place to stay in Berkeley.
The landlord Larry is very nice and helpful.
This property is in a great location for access to California Memorial Stadium, hiking trails and campus. And it is well priced for this area. Apartment has nice space and a large deck. Interior has nice amenities although very dated. Not ideal for anyone with physical limitations as it is two flights of wooden steps down to the front door and mattresses are on the floor. Wifi is very weak suitable for occasional use and not sufficient for power users or those needing to work. No cable TV.
Property is located in the hills directly behind University of California Berkeley campus and California Stadium within walking distance of hiking trails and open space, with breathtaking views of the the Bay Area, within close proximity of Greek Theater, 'Gourmet Ghetto', Julia Morgan Theater, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Zellerbach Auditorium and Stadium, Downtown Berkeley. Located within 15 mi of downtown San Francisco, 30 mi of Muir Woods, Muir Beach, Stinson Beach and Mt. Tamalpais, 48 mi of Point Reyes National Seashore, and 40 mi of Sonoma and Napa Valley Wine Country.
