We are Atlanta natives who have enjoyed having a second home in the mountains that is only a couple of hours from the city. We built this cottage as an investment property. This house is enjoyed by friends, family, groups from our church and many guests who return yearly.
Chuck Williams purchased this cottage in 2007
This house is unique in that the lower level is a separate one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. Families enjoying having reunions but perhaps the grands would like a quiet space to 'escape.' The large living space inside adjoins the wraparound porch and makes for comfortable enjoyment of creature comforts indoors and out.
We felt at home as soon as we arrived. The climb was a little steep driving, but how else would you have the seclusion and sounds of the tree tops? The screened in back porch was accessible from the kitchen/dining room and from the main floor bedroom. I spent many quiet moments there early in the morning. The hot tub was a daily treat. We could all be together in this house or find places to be alone. It was just right for our get away.
We found great shopping, eating adventures, and hiking fun. It's a wonderful area for a vacation.
This was a great vacation spot, Chuck was very helpful every step of the rental process. The house was beautiful and equipped with everything needed to enjoy the stay. Will be looking forward to returning when we come back to the area.
The owner of this location did a great job in explaining & assisting in everything we needed to know.
The get-a-way was neat and clean. The view was great.
We were so impressed with it that, as soon as we walked in the door, we starting talking about when we would come back

Myself and five other guys had a "boys trip" to the mountains for a few days to do some whitewater rafting. We rented this place as it was in the heart of Clayton, GA and only a 15 minute drive to the best whitewater rafting around. We rented the entire house, which included the basement apartment, and were very impressed. The house was seated on a beautiful piece of property and felt secluded since you couldn't see another home. The house was decorated well, in great shape and very clean with no issues noted. We had plenty of room to spread out and enjoyed cooking on the outdoor gas grill. We would definitely rent this place again! Thanks Chuck!
We rented Chuck's property for a short vacation. We found the cabin beautifully decorated. The Kitchen was equipped with everything we needed for quick meals and one full fledged dinner for seven. We found several puzzles in the linen closet that we were able to use at night gathering our family in one comfortable place. The location of the cabin felt remote but in reality was within a couple of miles of all the shops and stores in Clayton. It made for an easy trip to Helen or to white water rafting. There was plenty of outdoor seating on three decks and a hot tub that was used by several of us. We highly recommend this property and our host Chuck who quickly responded to any enquiries that we had. Our one regret was that we could not stay longer.
This property is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and immaculately clean, many extra touches, tucked away and quiet and yet an excellent location to enjoy the many attractions of the area. This is our 4th time in Clayton and this is it!, the very best. Being "flatlanders" we appreciated staying in a gorgeous mountain setting that we could access easily. The owner was excellent to work with and conveys true southern hospitality. The area has it all: hiking (I have a quest to visit as many waterfalls as possible), fishing, white water rafting, scenic drives, shopping, good restaurants, friendly "natives", wineries, history, crafts, etc. For restaurants, I recommend: Clarks on Main (a casual sports bar that offers really good and creative fare...hard to believe it is a sports bar), Fortify (upscale cuisine with lovely mountain attitude) and of course The Universal Joint (just kind of neat and open with some good eats). Don't miss Black Rock Mountain State Park and Foxfire Museum. Enjoy!!!
For outdoor enthusiasts there several hiking trails from easy to difficult many with beautiful waterfalls and vistas. Many people enjoy the drive (45-60 minutes) to Highlands, NC. If you drive to Fanklin NC and take Hwy 64 up to Highlands you will enjoy the beauty of several water falls from your car. For those who like casinos, Cherokee NC is an easy and beautiful drive. Harrah's has a casino there, but also, you will find many attractions that the whole family can enjoy. White water rafting is fun for many. Both class 2 and 3 rivers are close by. Several companies offer guided river excursions. Canopy tours for those who are brave of heart are close to Clayton. Beautiful Helen GA, a Bavarian style village, is a pleasant drive and the kids can enjoy tubing in the beautiful river that runs through the village. Tallulah Gorge is a must see and has a very interesting visitors center with a movie highlighting the development of our region. There is a series of 3 lakes that were built by Georgia Power in the early 1900's to produce hydo-electricity. These lakes, Seed, Burton and Rabun offer opportunities to enjoy the public beaches or maybe rent a pontoon or other water craft and enjoy the splendor of the water while looking at the mountains surrounding the lakes. Dining in the area is varried and you can find places to eat to fit your budget--anything from Chik-fil-a to the Lake Rabun Hotel.
