Amazing Family Weekend-September
This was the perfect place for our family to get together for the weekend. We loved the setup since we had 3 couples and a baby. It was so nice to have the common space to hang out all together and also have our own private rooms to get away and relax. The cottage was very clean and comfortable with all the basics provided including coffee and lots of towels. The waterfront at the cottage is nice and quiet, but didn't look the best for swimming, although the beach is close by and passes are provided. It didn't matter since it was quite cold the weekend that we visited so we wouldn't have swam anyway. We really enjoyed the fire table on the deck as well as the wood-burning hot tub. The daily visits from the neighbourhood dogs were lots of fun too. It was such a unique place and we really appreciated the care that the hosts put in to making our stay comfortable.
Run down and neglected...
The pictures posted are of the property when it was shiny and new, which from information on site, seems to be about 4 years ago or so. The reality is very disappointing. It's obvious that very little money has gone back into this location to keep it up. The view from the back deck is of the water as shown but what you don't see, unless you increase the size of the picture greatly, are the 40 + wind turbines across the bay. Nature at its best. The green grass in the backyard as seen in the pictures is nowhere to be found. (The backyards on either side of the property however are quite pretty.) This backyard is now strewn with hay in an attempt to soak up any water when it rains. That fails miserably. What actually happened is that the yard turned into one big mud pit. The front yard hasn't seen a lawnmower in at least a month. You'll know you're at the right house by the pile of garbage including an old bbq that sits across the road. The deck doesn't appear to have been resealed since built. Furniture indoors and out is dirty. The sandy beach that's walkable is just that - if you want to walk for 3 km. The closest you can park is 1.5 km from the beach. The rest of it you walk. This is ok if it's not mid 80's or more, if you don't have young children and if you don't have elders. You will be expected to pack out your own garbage by taking it to a local recycling area which is only open a few days a week. You will also be expected to wipe down indoor walls, windows, sills, sweep floors, strip beds and so on and oh - if you have time it would be great if you'd start a load of laundry before you leave. Not the owner's fault but there was a fire ban for July and Aug so no bbq and no fire pit use. Check before you go. We left early. For the money you're paying save it and look elsewhere.
