About Lynne and Tim Martin

We traveled for almost five years without a home base, living in HomeAway/VRBO properties internationally. Lynne wrote the best-selling Home Sweet Anywhere, How We Sold Our House, Created a New Life, and Saw the World about our adventures. It's now published in eight languages!

We now travel often speaking to groups about travel and the joys of postponing nothing!

sWe packed this house with every amenity we longed for as we traveled. It's minimalist but wildly comfortable with gorgeous linens, brand new appliances, heavenly beds and furniture, total privacy, high ceilings, big windows and a commodious outdoor room where we can enjoy the nature all around us. We want to share all this peace, comfort and beauty with you when we hit the road now and again! We are certain you'll love it! For a few days, a few weeks, or even longer, it can be YOUR Home Sweet Anywhere.

Lynne and Tim Martin purchased this house in 2015

Why Lynne and Tim Martin chose California

Creekside Cottage is unique. It's on a gorgeous country lane covered with an arch of oaks. There are no neighbors nearby, and the simple facade belies the dramatic interior, where fifteen-foot ceilings and huge windows embrace a magnificent stand of old California oaks. Resident deer, squirrels and hundreds of birds are our only neighbors. And yet, Trader Joe's is 1.5 miles away. There are 200 wineries in the area, and the beach is twenty minutes away. This is the perfect place for one or two couples to get away and enjoy the magnificent central coast!

What makes this house unique

You can enjoy a day of touring wineries or enjoying the area's other attractions and retreat to your private oasis for a completely relaxing, romantic evening! You'll receive a signed copy of Home Sweet Anywhere when you arrive! It's just the thing for you to read on a sun-dappled lounge by the creek!

Comfortable, upscale, quiet and convenient!

  • 5 of 5

Pictures don't do it justice. The house is more than you could ask for. It is perfect for a couple, two couples, or a family with a great kitchen, bathrooms, living area and outside. It is on a very quiet street (feels like in the boonies) but only a minute from all of the conveniences. You can see zillions of stars from outside -- a real trip for people from the city. As people who like to cook, we were worried about the set up as often rentals don't have even the basics. Not so with this rental. This has it all. We will be back. We loved it.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Jessica. We are thrilled that you enjoyed Creekside Cottage so much. Since your visit, we have added a pergola down by the creek. It's a lovely spot to read or have cocktails. We've also added huge umbrellas to keep the heat away. They have solar lights that make sitting outside even more romantic. Again, thank you. We look forward to seeing you again. Warmest wishes, Lynne and Tim

Happiness and Excitment

  • 5 of 5

Who could imagine the on-line description of the property to be surpassed by an unexpected forested retreat. Ideally located in the wine country of Paso Robles and suited for either one or two couples wishing to be surrounded within a two bedroom home open to nature. On any morning, we would be awakened by a variety of birds at the many feeding stations and squirrels hoping to find a nugget of bird seed. Added excitement were the deer that would pass almost daily and seen either from the front or out the kitchen window. Our last day

always to be remembered..nine wild turkey's appeared in the from porch area with the head Tom strutting in full plume. Need we say more as a place for

comfort, nature and great wine.

Owner's Response: Thank you for being such lovely guests. You took such good care of our property - even foiling the crazy squirrels bent on eating all the bird seed! We're so glad that you enjoyed our haven as much as we do and we hope that you'll return soon! Thanks for the lovely review.

What a lovely way to spend Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

Every Thanksgiving, we travel to Paso Robles with our closest friends. We come from Tucson, Arizona; they come from Los Angeles. And we meet. Normally, we travel on Thursday, but this year, we decided to change things up and come on Wednesday so we could have all day Thursday – Thanksgiving – to relax, cook, enjoy. And enjoy we did. The morning greeted us with deer in the back woods, and the fabulousness ensued from there.

There were several wineries open, even on Thanksgiving, so we put the turkey in the oven and went to one to officially start our vacation. We made a great meal in the spacious and well-equipped kitchen. The oven was more than sufficient, space wise, and the five-burner cooktop served us well, as did the ample serving dishes. We put on some Christmas music, using one of many built-in USB ports to power both our iPad and our satellite speakers. It was just beautiful. I wish I could post photos.

The rest of the weekend was equally beautiful.

The house is perfectly laid out, with a split floor plan. Two ample bedrooms and baths on either side, with a great room in the middle. The back of the house is nearly floor to ceiling glass allowing for a view of the wooded area behind. Out the sliding glass doors is a fire pit (which we used several times), and a grill (also used; thank you).

Inside, there's an electric fireplace in the living room area for ambiance. The European style heating and air conditioning units are tucked up high in each room and easy to use.

Everything is well labeled. From the kitchen cabinets to the remote controls, we always knew what to open for what, and what to use to turn what on. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms have everything needed. It was like staying in a five-star resort. Plus, the house is ideally located and close to just about everything.

Not sure there were any negatives to report. As with any place, it takes some getting used to, but it didn't take long. There was also a helpful binder listing everything we could possibly need to know. The owners, Lynne and Tim, couldn't have been nicer or more responsive. We're already talking about booking the house again for next Thanksgiving. And we can't wait!

5 Star Hotel Only Better

  • 5 of 5

We loved the finishes and layout of this house. It is perfect for two couples. Truly like a five star hotel only more private. We enjoyed the fire pit each night. The beds are extremely comfortable. We appreciated the welcome cheese, wine and beer for our one non-wine drinker. We would definitely stay again!
