Villa Baba is located in a quiet residential area with a mixture of local Cypriot and British residents. Built in a former olive grove and completed in 2006, the villa has been decorated with a mixture of local handmade and modern furniture.
During 2014 the whole villa has been given a fresh coat of paint, both inside and out, which now means it looks like new in the wonderful sunshine!
The villa stands in a very large garden, which has been designed by local a garden designer using native trees and shrubs, blending with the original olive trees. The garden has a large 10x5m overflow swimming pool with outside shower. This is maintained professionally by local company.
Flights: Ercan Airport located 40 min. drive away, is Northern Cyprus's international airport. Manchester, Stansted and a number of other airports offer direct flights. Larnaca, in the south of the island, offers more flights and is usually cheaper. Again, the taxi is approximately 60 min. Please note you will not be able to pick up a hire car from Larnaca, due to insurance, you can however, pick up a hire car from Ercan if required. We can arrange taxi from both airports and car hire on arrival (or delivery to the villa) if required. The local managing agent will meet you at the villa with keys and provide you with a welcome pack of essentials. She will be available to answer any questions or queries you may have during your stay.
Getting around: The villa is in walking distance to the sea, shops, bars and restaurants and there is a very good local bus service which will pick up and drop anywhere along the main road. However, to see the real Northern Cyprus and explore the many attractions a car is essential. They also drive on the left which makes getting around very easy! The roads are quite good, but please be aware of speed limits as there are a number of speed cameras along the main from Lapta at Kyrenia.
Further information: Northern Cyprus has a wonderful climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year with the temperature rarely dropping below 70F from May to September. The people are very friendly and helpful, with many of them speaking English. Children are particularly welcomed in restaurants and are well catered for. Northern Cyprus is still relatively unspoilt with no big fast food chains present, although you can purchase British favourites at the local supermarkets. The currency is the Turkish Lira and all major credit cards area accepted in most places.
My wife, myself and 2 friends spent a fantastic stay at Villa Baba in the first 2 weeks of October. From the initial contact with the owner to our final taxi drive back to Larnaca the service and smooth arrangements could not be better. We were met by the lovely Christina, who not only showed us around the villa, but also took us in her own car to the Supermarket as our hire care was booked for the following day. The villa is situated in a quiet short road of 3 villas and is extremely well appointed with every comfort provided for a relaxing holiday and I can only reiterate the words of the previous reviewers. The terrace at the back became our "living area" for the 2 weeks with stunning views of the mountains and looking out on to a beautiful infinity swimming pool. To get the best out of the area, I would recommend a hire car which we hired from the Sevener company who do deliver direct to the villa. There are a few Restaurants within walking distance, with the Lapida Hotel especially recommended. If you like a specific dish like klefitico or Mary's special chicken, just let them know by 5 o'clock and it will be ready for you in the evening - service indeed!! Christina provided a very useful hand made map of other restaurants in the area as well as other points of interest and throughout our stay herself and George were a constant source of knowledge and support when needed. Thanks to all involved in a truly memorable holiday. We will be back!!
This is our fifth visit to North Cyprus and our best yet. Villa Baba was everything we dreamt of and more. We were greeted by Christine who was very welcoming and answered all the questions that my kids threw at her as they were very excited. The Villa was clean and well equipped for our family, the private pool been a added bonus. This is where we spend most of our time in the pool and during the day the terrace at the back is in the shade which is great with the kids in the high temperate mid afternoon.
With this been our fifth visit to North Cyprus we thought we had found all the best restaurants but the location of the villa is perfect we found new restaurants and bars that were amazing.
We cant thank you enough Angela and Christine for all the help both booking and when we stayed in the villa.
The Kellys and Smith
We arrived at Ercan airport at about 22.00,and drove to the Villa Baba, which took us just over one and a half hours. The key had been left in a pre-arranged place. When we entered we were very impressed how clean and well maintained it was,on entering the kitchen we found food and a bottle of wine waiting for us,also tea making facilities including fresh milk.
The next day we met Christine, who is the manager and keeps the premises maintained.
She looked after us whenever we needed her.We found her so helpful during our 3 week holiday, she left us with her phone number, and was always prompt if we had a problem, she was always on hand.Thankyou Christine for the help you gave us.
A great deal of our meals we had at the villa,my wife being a good cook anyway, and the kitchen being so well equipt, what restaurants we did use we found very good. One I must mention called Fish and Chips, which is the best fish and chips I have tasted for a long time, with the fish tasting like it had just been caught.
The one thing we have never had before on holiday was our own private Pool, which we now know how much we have missed on previous holidays,it was cleaned every other day by contractors who obviously knew what they were doing.
Northern Cyprus has got so much to offer, the scenery is lovely, and the country is steeped in history. If you are thinking of going to Cyprus, take the plunge its well worth it.
We had a good 3 weeks in North Cyprus and found the people most friendly and accommodating. Villa Baba was a pleasant place to stay, looks a bit tired inside in areas but as the bulk of your holiday is outside its not a huge problem. Christine who looks after the Villa was great sorting out any issues that arose and was generally on hand to help with the area as well as the Villa. An information pack would have been really useful to explain the temperamental water pump! Although we switched it on every day we didn't realise you had to sometimes play around with it outside to get it going, this we found out when I let Christine know the washer wasn't working and she showed us how it worked. After a week of showers that trickled water it was a great relief that we could have proper showers. There was an issue with the TV and satellite which only worked after 17 days of our holiday - not a huge problem to lots of people but as we use the tv as a reason to get the children out of the sun it was disappointing. Christine did run round ragged trying to sort this out for us and helped us out with DVD's etc so we couldn't have asked for more from her. This was addressed to the owner on return suggesting as a gesture of goodwill part of the premium paid for TV and satellite was reimbursed as we only had it for 3 days in a 3 week holiday however nothing was forthcoming. We have however suggested that this villa is advertised without this facility and then if it is working its a bonus for the guests!
Christine, the locals, restaurants and everything else was great!
The lovely 'Villa Baba'. We stayed for eight nights.
You get what the owner states in the description, with no surprises and top notch appliances and fittings.
The total outside space is excellent. It makes you feel happy cos it's big and you're not bumping into everyone in your party. Because it is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac it has a lot of privacy, especially around the pool area, not 100% privacy - but who cares - get your clobber off - you're on holiday!!
The swimming pool is in the sun all day and it was like stepping into a tepid bath whilst we were there, unusually hot weather for June (in the forties). The pool is very large, clean and well maintained by a professional company.
The patio leading out from the living room is where you will spend the majority of your time, we certainly did. We didn't have the TV on once or go into the living room area at all, apart from getting the occasional book.
Other reviewers have stated about the necessity for a car, it's true. Having red number plate’s screams 'tourist' and they might flash you or get a bit too close for comfort; it's just the way they drive. Ignore them.
Northern Cyprus should not be compared to the South of the island. It's rustic. It’s nothing like Limassol of Paphos. No one recognises it as a country apart from Turkey. Therefore, it has its issues. Items or parts might be out of stock or required to be purchased from Turkey. But if you can have a laugh about it and not get irritated by the fact that the water or the electricity may go off, then you'll enjoy it.
We didn't have water for a couple of days, but that didn't matter. There's a water cooler. We used water from the cooler and heated it in the kettle for the bathrooms to have a strip wash and did the same for the dishes. No problem. We have water meters at our home in Cheshire, so we are always mindful of how much we use anyway.
Having met Christine, I feel that unkind comments are not justifiable. Christine is not 'Staff', she is a neighbour who will assist should any of us need help. We all need a friendly neighbour and what a mess we’d all be in if she wasn’t there to lend her guidance or a helping hand.
Angela should be very proud of her villa in the sun and I’m so glad we stayed there.
My wife and i , and our 3 year old son have just returned from Northern Cyprus and i can honestly say that our stay at the Villa Baba was the best holiday we have ever spent ! Everything about it was marvelous ! The villa is situated in a quiet and very picturesque area and the neighbours are very friendly and considorate . It also has everything you need for your stay and if you require any help then the lovely Christine is at hand . Beaches and shops etc are not too far away , and although i would recommend car hire , there is a bus service from the main road approx 200m away. There are many restraunts in the local area also and i found the local taxi service to be punctual and reasonably cheap . All in all i would recommend villa baba to anyone looking for a great time in the TRNC . Looking at dates for next year already ! Can't wait !
The villa is within a short walk of Galip's Cove Beach and Hotel Sempati, with it's Diving School and friendly restaurant and bar. The picturesque back-drop to the villa is the Kyrenia mountain range, where the village of Lapta is located just a 5 min. drive away from the villa. Locally there is entertainment for all age groups including; Escape Beach Resort, with numerous water sports, Aqua Park, walking and cycling in the beautiful mountains, and miles of empty beaches to name but a few. A local market 5 min. walk from the villa for essentials and supermarkets for all your needs 5 min. drive. A short drive and you will arrive in Kyrenia with its famous 'horse-shoe' harbour and Castle. Sit around the harbour in one of its many restaurants and bars during the day or evening, or wander around the narrow side streets shopping for local souvenirs. Alternatively, drive up to Bellapais and refresh yourself under the 'Tree of Idleness' as described in Bitter Lemons by Lawrence Durrell.
