This apartment is in an elegant 19th century building only 100m away from iconic Galata Tower. The whole building was refurbished in late 2011 and is managed by us, so we are able to keep the lovely original marble staircase and communal entrance hall in very good repair. There is one apartment on each of four floors.
The streets below are atmospheric with small, trendy boutiques and cafe-restaurants, yet are quiet and residential at night. Galata's pedestrianised area is just around the corner with its lively pavement cafes and restaurants plus all the buzz of this bohemian district. You'll quickly feel part of neighborhood life in all its character.
The apartment building is only 2 minutes walk from Sishane metro station, 1 minute walk from Tünel funicular and a downhill walk to connect with the tram for Sultanahmet. Famous Istiklal Avenue is less than 5 minutes walk up the hill.
The apartment's original panelled front door opens into a spacious, central hallway. Double doors to the right lead into the bright and comfortable living room, with a stylish circular dining table and cosy seating area, including two sofas and an armchair.
There are two good-sized double bedrooms, each with high quality crisp white linens. One bedroom has a double bed and one has twin beds that can be put together if required. The kitchen is a practical size with a small breakfast table. It's well-equipped with gas hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There’s one roomy, full sized shower room plus a second small loo. The apartment is 80 m2 in total, light and bright with large windows and high ceilings.
Many original architectural details have been kept and some of the walls have exposed bricks, giving a cosy atmosphere. The bedrooms comfortably accommodate four people and the large sofa-bed in the living room can manage one more.
Guests will have the complete privacy of the entire apartment.
Galata has a genuine, very welcoming and diverse community with an intriguing mix of cafes, restaurants, small grocery shops and artistic boutiques. Elegant 19th Century buildings line cobbled streets, with discoveries waiting around every corner. No matter where you wander, you’ll always find your way back to Galata Tower, which has been a well-loved landmark for the last 700 years.
Metro, bus, tram and ferry stops are all only a few minutes walk away. The famous Istiklal Avenue is around 5 minutes stroll. You can be in Sultanahmet (for the big sights of Ayasofya, Topkapı, Blue Mosque etc.) in about 20 minutes by public transport or 25 minutes on foot. In the other direction, by Metro, you can be in Şişli (for Istanbul’s biggest shopping mall) in 10 minutes or Levent (for Istanbul’s business district) in 15 minutes.
There are many taxi ranks around and some secure car parks too.

We rented this apartment in the middle of July 2013, for 10 days. We are a family of four, with two young kids and we always opt for an apartment with kitchen and laundry. This apartment suited us perfectly. One large bedroom with two separated beds for the kids and one smaller room with a large bed for us. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking simple meals and equipped with dishwasher and laundry.
The building is on a quiet street and we were also not bothered by the visitors above and below. The high ceilings and air conditioning units made kept us cool even in the hot July weather. The apartment was clean and all the facilities worked well. Excellent water pressure and endless hot water.
Only one block away we found numerous good restaurants, two supermarkets, a bakery, an excellent wine shop, a pharmacy. Everything is centered around the pleasant public square at the base of the Galata tower.
Our daily routine was to walk 10 minutes down to the Galata bridge and take tram of ferry to various attractions. A public transit card was conveniently attached to the apartment keys.
We had a few minor issues that were resolved within hours by the friendly apartment manager who spoke excellent English.
We highly recommend that you stay in this apartment the next time you visit Istanbul.
A trip to Istanbul is always a lovely idea. We have an idea that we can discover kind of exotic history around every corner, and where better to start that adventure is Galata, a small, diverse district just up the hill crowned by the Galata Tower just a short walk from Kadakoy and the Galata bridge.
Hendek apartment is located on a small, one way street leading straight to the tower where it overlooks a surrounding open 'square' filled with coffeeshops, restaurants, cats, juice sellers and the occasional musician who fills the air with evocative melodies recalling lost romance and found love. The apartment is ridiculously well located, with short walks to a main metro line, a main tram line, and just up the hill from the Karakoy ferry stop.
We had many lovely days where we enjoyed our first coffee of the day in our spotlessly clean apartment, working on our writing scattered across the spacious dining table, plotting our next move in Istanbul. We would often hear the soft strains of music throughout the day, as there are many many music shops littering the area, and people always like to try before they buy. And at the end of each day it felt as if we were coming back to our own nest, where we could drink one final glass of tea before settling in for rest.
The owners and managers of this apartment have done a lovely job of remodeling a large apartment in an old building. It combines many historical touches with modern amenities, providing us with a relaxing experience to come to after the busy world of Istanbul. They have a transparent and simple checkin process, and their representatives are almost unbelievably ready to explain something, help or simply share information about Galata and Istanbul. Of course, we will always look forward to staying with you again, the next time we visit Istanbul.
This is the second time I stayed in the Hendek apartment in Istanbul - and was once again extremely happy with my choice. The apartment is at an amazing location, right at the heart of the Galata area with tons of cute shops, breakfast places, restaurants, and bars around the corner. The flat itself is bright, clean, and very stylishly decorated - living there makes you instantly feel like a local. We stayed there with 3 people and therefore had plenty of space. The whole stay was very well organized. Everyone I talked to or met from the management/ owners was very friendly and helpful. We will be back for sure!
It was a very nice apartment. Everything was as promised and the staff was really helpful. It works well for two couples to stay together. So we can really recommend it or to a family. The apartment has a fantastic location and you can get everywhere in Istanbul from there. We will for sure rent it another time.
I take vacations to relax and not worry about real life. So I expect a property to be relaxing and to deliver on the comfort I expect (especially when I have to research to find it). Those comforts include electricity, water & availability of Wi-Fi any time. The property is in a good neighborhood, but there are a few cautions to be aware of that weren't made clear in the description or reviews, that may impact your holiday, ability to work (on a computer) and comfort. The neighborhood has forced electricity or water shutoffs from time to time. In fact, there is a page in the welcome book for guests that explains about these power outages/water restrictions; and what to do in the event of one. They provide you a flash light magnet in the kitchen, just in case! If you are traveling by yourself (maybe worse with children) this is a VERY BIG INCONVENIENCE and disappointment! After one night I moved to a nice hotel in Pera, just 5 minutes away. The hotel never forced power or water outages. Even though I lost my money on the apartment at least I was able to enjoy Istanbul. Here are some good things & a few things to be aware of (hopefully owners can get fix some items). Pros:- Family/owners are very responsive to email and texts; easy to contact- Neighborhood is nice/quiet, close to restaurants and shops at the base of Galata Tower- Representative was at the house when I arrived 2 hours late due to my flight delay and showed me some basic information- Apartment is spacious, kept clean, has all the basics like laundry detergent, dish soap, towels, etc. (but no bath soap or shampoo so bring your own)- Good taxi service (extra cost) that met me at airport arrivals picked me up at my new hotel on my way home- Good walking tour company (extra cost) that can show you parts of Istanbul Cons:- Forced electric & water outages (it happened after 10pm and lasted most of the night, until 5am or so)- The Representative did not warn me of electricity or water outage potential or what to do in the event it happens (I happened to read the entire welcome booklet when he left, so that I would know what to expect and how to call for help, just in case)- All the mattresses buckled under my weight and the springs hurt (I'm just an average weight, 5'4 all); I had to sleep on the small bed closest to the window (my back was sore next morning)-Shower drain was clogged so I had to turn off water every 10 seconds to keep it from overflowing to the floor
We were thoroughly impressed from the start - the owner of the property met with us at 9pm following a delay at the airport, and made us feel at home by showing us around the apartment, giving us advice on where to eat and how to travel around the city.
The apartment was clean and stylish, with all the necessary amenities for a break in Istanbul. It is a stone's throw away from the Galata tower and one of the main streets in Istanbul, with lots of nice restaurants within walking distance. There is also a tram stop nearby which takes you to all the main attractions in the city.
All in all a great place to stay while in Istanbul.
The Galata neighborhood is where to be in Istanbul, and apartment Hendik is dead center in the Galata. Easy walking to the. best sites, clean, and outstanding customer service. They have put together a great rental program.!
The leayout was perfect for four adults. Having a kitchen was important as we saved on cooking breakfast in as well as several dinners.
Perfect for our 8 day stay.
We understand the importance of location and this is why all of our apartments are in Galata. With its genuine, very welcoming community and intriguing mix of cafes, restaurants, small grocery shops and artistic boutiques, we think it’s the most interesting part of Istanbul. No matter where you wander, you will always find your way back to Galata Tower, which has been a well-loved landmark for the last 700 years.
Metro, bus, tram and ferry stops are all only a couple of minutes’ walk away. You can be in Sultanahmet (for the big sights of Ayasofya, Topkapı, Blue Mosque etc.) in about 15 minutes by public transport or 25 minutes on foot. In the other direction, by Metro, you can be in Şişli (for Istanbul’s biggest shopping mall) in 20 minutes or Levent (for Istanbul’s business district) in 25 minutes.
