Overview

About the property

Picturesque setting on beautiful, crystal clear Bass Lake. Located just 7 minutes east of downtown Eagle River, WI. 1.68 wooded acres with 100 feet of gorgeous, hard sand frontage. Tranquility awaits you at this cottage situated on the shores of one of the area's most sought after, spring fed lakes that features breathtaking views and great fishing. Enjoy all weather sports here, boating, water skiing, tubing, swimming, sailing, fishing, skiing, cross country skiing, hiking, snowmobiling, ice skating, etc. This lake is most desireable because it is a private, full recreation lake (no large crowds). Eagles nest in the large pines and oak trees along the lakefront. You will be amazed at the incredible sunsets and kaleidoscopic light show from the northern lights. The cottage has a queen bed in the master, a pullout couch and futon in the living area and 2 twin beds in the lower level. It sleeps 8 but can house more if needed. The kitchen is equipped for any gourmet.

Sit out on the balcony to enjoy your morning coffee or evening refresher and listen to the peace and quiet. The home offers 2 kayaks with paddles and life jackets, a large pier for your water toys and entertaining enjoyment and a swim platform. This area of the lake has a sandy bottom with a very gradual drop off - perfect for little ones. The cottage is rustically enhanced in the Northwoods theme by the full log furniture.

About Chris Craig

Hello, we bought our first home in Eagle River in 2000. We loved everything about it. Our friends all asked if they could rent our place and the rest is history. We fix up our cabins and decorate them to enhance our renter's stay.

Chris Craig purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Chris Craig chose Northern Wisconsin

We chose this property because we have been coming up to this area all our lives. We have family in the area and we love Bass Lake. It is just so peaceful here. Our cabin is a place where we can leave all our troubles and busy everyday lives to just escape. Always a happy place for us.

What makes this cabin unique

The sandy beach area is the real draw here, especially when we have the little ones up with us. They romp around for endless hours, it is difficult to get them to come in for lunch. They're so cute!

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. We got lots of fishing in. We caught some nice bass and northern, and the kids loved catching all the pan fish. We also saw lots of wildlife; loon, otters, deer, eagle. Just wish we had a little warmer weather to try out the kayaks and take a swim in the lake.

Beautiful Lake, Immaculate Cabin with a lot of stairs

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic week at this Bass Lake, Eagle River cabin. The cabin is very clean and well supplied with linens, pot and pans, anything you could need. The sofa bed and futon are both quite comfortable, and the queen size bed in the bedroom is in good shape. The lower level had a surprise game table which we really enjoyed. The half bath in the lower level came in really handy during the day when playing outside. There are 2 twin beds in the lower level, but we didn't end up using them. There is also a balcony off of the upper cabin level, with a nice view of the lake between the trees. Balcony is big enough for 2 or 3 people.

The lake is absolutely beautiful! It has a nice sandy bottom, and is excellent for swimming. The two kayaks were welcome, and easy to use. The pier is large enough for lawn chairs, and I even brought my hammock down for a few of the days to enjoy the lake while reading.

We enjoyed many bonfires, and cookouts. The cabin is also minutes away from downtown Eagle River for eating out.

We don't have any mobility problems, but one thing to be aware of if traveling with older adults or really young children is the number of stairs. The cabin is built above a garage with a tall staircase. At the top of the staircase, the cabin door swings inward and covers the whole landing. I would have felt nervous with young children. More so however, the lake is down a fair sized hill, with stone steps that are made of beautiful, natural (if slightly uneven) flagstone. No railing, so when my dad came for a day visit he couldn't get to the water.

Overall, this was a great place for our week-long vacation. I would highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Hello, and thank you for your positive feedback and suggestions. We have stairs leading up to the main living area above the garage. We have changed the door so that it swings into the living area and not onto the landing for the stairs - much safer for everyone. We have what has been described as a moderate slope to the lake with 6 natural stone stairs down to the lakefront. This is not handicap accessible, there is no railing and we do not have a ramp leading to the lake. My mother has bad knees and is able to get down the stone stairs with her cane. We try to leave the smallest footprint upon the land and keep everything as natural as possible for a true north woods experience. I will update the photos with the lakefront stairs and pathway to the cabin so you may make your own judgement. Thank you - and hope you will consider staying at our little slice of heaven.

Eagles, Loons and clear water!

  • 4 of 5

The "garatage" is an ideal combination of comfy cabin sitting on the second floor of a large garage. The lower level has been converted into a large recreation/storage room. There is one bedroom in the main cabin area plus 2 futons in the large living room. The downstairs has 2 additional single beds as well as an extra 1/2 bathroom, laundry, a fireplace and foosball table. The kayaks, life jackets, and paddles are stored downstairs also. The cabin upstairs is clean, nicely furnished and very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with dishes and cooking supplies. Everything is in good condition and well maintained. The lake is a short walk down a hill, very easy hike. The lake bottom is sandy; the lake is shallow and a tall person can walk to the raft (shared with next door cabin.) The dock is long and has a boat lift if needed. We spent a lot of time on the dock watching eagles and loons. We brought our bikes and enjoyed riding around the beautiful Eagle River area. We would absolutely return to this home!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive rating and for highlighting the description of our cabin. We love this spot for our young family members because of the crystal clear, hard sand frontage with a gradual slope to the water. My parents are able to shuffle down to the lake which was a main reason for purchasing this Little Piece of Heaven.

Great place to enjoy the Northwoods

  • 4 of 5

The house was fantastic, new and clean. My husband and I were joined by 3 adult children and 2 grandkids, which forced us to the sofa/sleeper which was quite comfy. I also liked the addition of the electric fireplace in the garage sleeping area to warm it up. We saw a hawk catch a fish from the dock, baby ducks, and an eagle who came often to perch in a big pine next to the property. How wonderful! The beach was excellent for swimming, nice sandy bottom. Also used the raft to dive and jump off (you share it with her property next door, but it was never a problem, we took turns) Eagle River was a short drive away for groceries. Hiked some nice trails within a reasonable driving distance, as the weather wasn't always warm enough to spend in the water. Drove to MI to see Bond Falls, about 50 minutes away. All in all a wonderful place to enjoy the water and the Northwoods.

Wonderful place for a relaxing getaway.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at the Bass Lake "Garatage". There is nothing like mornings, sunsets, and clear nights in the North Woods. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. We used the rowboat for trips around the lake to watch the loons, eagles, and other wildlife, as well as some fishing, and also did a short trip around the lake in the Kayaks. If you like swimming, the water was very warm, the sand was soft, and the raft was close enough for anyone to get to. Fishing was also good, with abundant panfish (a worm on a jig from the dock will land you a sunfish on almost every cast, and there are also bluegill, perch, and crappie), northern pike, and some really nice largemouth bass. The lake, for the most part, was fairly quiet, despite the number of cottages on the lake (two boats and jet skis were the max at one time - but usually the lake had a couple folks fishing and maybe one water-skier or rafter - at least when we were around.) Eagle River was close, as were other fun locations that would accommodate most interests. Would highly recommend it.
