About Rosemary Avril
Rosemary and Jean Michel are delighted to welcome you to their abode. Rosemary is Australian and has been living the French dream since 1975 and Jean Michel was born and raised in the Loire Valley in a converted windmill on top of a hill near Saumur. Our favourite pastimes are cycling, mushroom picking, walking, wine tasting, gardening and travelling and the house reflects these tastes.
Rosemary Avril purchased this House in 2012
Why Rosemary Avril chose Blois
We were looking for a retirement home in a location not far from Paris with a dynamic cultural and social life that would be attractive to both French and overseas visitors. We also wanted bike routes, a State forest for mushrooming, a river to fish in and vineyards to explore. The Loire Valley was a natural choice and a 400 year-old Renaissance house with all its wonderful history was the perfect solution.
What makes this House unique
We both fell in love with the house immediately. We loved its authentic features, its lovely garden, the wood behind, the many rooms, each with its own history.

Peaceful and lovely
We loved this place. Amazing location and attention to detail. The book Rosemary left for her guests was so helpful. We had a wonderful time and encourage others to experience this lovely farm house in the country.
Thank you for your lovely review. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay in our house.
Wonnderful stay @ Blois
Rosemary made everything perfect for our stay near Blois! The property is about 5-7 minutes from the city centre. The kitchen was well equipped for the nights we cooked and "stayed in".
There were so many interesting elements to the home ... it was like staying in a museum! We stayed five nights and it was the perfect home base for exploring all the chateaux of the Loire Valley. So thank you very much Rosemary for making our stay so memorable!
Thank you for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in our home so much.
Slice of French Country Living
We arrived after midnight and were given excellent directions and detailed instructions on how to access the property. When the gates swung open we could tell this was going to be a very special stay. As we entered the "chateau" it was even more charming than anticipated. We were impressed by the large rooms and all the jaw dropping details an older structure, think wood beams and multiple fireplaces. The rooms were comfortable with lots windows for light and the evening breeze. There are nice touches all over the house for guests such as robes and slippers, coffee and milk for breakfast, a nice bottle of bubbly in the fridge, plus she left us a much appreciated treat from her garden. In addition there are 4 adult bikes available. Rosemary has a truly amazing place that exudes old world charm.
The kitchen has everything you need to prepare nice meals and the BBQ much appreciated. The garden was flourishing and had a wide arrange of flowers and greenery to admire. It was wonderful to sit out there and enjoy the evenings with a bottle of wine. We appreciated the fact that we could enjoy our adventures out in the Loire Valley knowing they would continue when we returned to our temporary home.
Rosemary was a great host and incredibly knowledgeable about the area and has an informative blog to help you get you into your holiday mindset. She was responsive to email and always very kind and thoughtful. The house was also very tidy, I can only imagine what it takes to keep it in such pristine condition.
The pictures don't do it justice, we highly recommend the experience and thank Rosemary for the chance to capture the French country life-style, albeit only for a long weekend.
Thank you Lynn for your kind words. We love our house and area and are delighted to be able to share them. It is important for us to know that are guests have everything they need for an enjoyable, carefree experience.
Wonderful Gite in the Loire Valley
We don't feel the pictures do this place justice! This lovely old farmhouse has an abundance of character while at the same time providing modern conveniences and comfort. Its very quiet location provides an easy drive to many chateaux and wineries, as well as to the towns of Blois (with it's fantastic pedestrian area and shops) and Amboise. During our four-day/five-night stay, it was nice to have the option to fix breakfast in the mornings or return in the evening for a light dinner with dessert from the patisserie, and to unwind and relax in this comfortable gite after a day spent sightseeing. We found the people of the Loire to be very friendly and helpful, and the food and wine fantastic. Although Rosemary and Jean-Michel were out of town during our stay, any issues we had were promptly taken care of to our satisfaction through e-mail. Rosemary provided a very helpful guide to area shopping, local market days and sights. We recommend this property wholeheartedly.
I'm so pleased everything worked out, Michael, and that you enjoyed your stay at Closerie Falaiseau. Thank you for your lovely comment.
Beautiful and Well Situated Accommodation
We couldn't have been more pleased with our accommodations at this lovely house in May. Although we did not meet the owners in person, Rosemary was just an e-mail or phone call away and she was extremely helpful in recommending sites to see and places to eat and visit. The garden is lovely in May, the house was spacious and comfortable, and the location is perfect for visiting the chateaux of the Loire Valley. The owners left a bottle of wine in the fridge, cozy terry cloth robes in the bathroom, and a computer and cell phone for us to use while we were at the house. We felt that we were personal guests of the owners. The town (and castle) of Blois are just a few minutes away. We would definitely recommend this house!
Thank you, Naomi, for your lovely recommendation. We, too, were sorry not to meet you. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Closerie Falaiseau. We love the garden in May as well!
A Super Place to Stay in the Loire Valley
My wife and I stayed in this terrific cottage outside of Blois the last week in September 2013. The cottage serves as an excellent location for touring the Loire Valley region and it has all of the space and amenities you could ask for. Our host, Rosemary, could not have been more helpful with information on local shopping and touring ideas. Overall this cottage is a great value that we would highly recommend for anyone wishing to visit the Loire Valley region.
Thank you for the lovely review!
