About Terry Absalom
We are a bi-national couple (one from Trinidad, one from the U.S.) presently living in Washington, DC.
Terry Absalom purchased this Condo in 2006
Why Terry Absalom chose El Cortecito
This condo is much more than a rental unit. It was our home for more than 5 years. We put a lot of time and energy into making it as welcoming and comfortable as possible. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Large, comfortable condo in a nice, safe area.
My family and I had a wonderful stay and will do it again.
Great location and Unit but some major draw backs (Military Veteran)
Honest review place was great at first, but some setbacks. Im a military veteran so I'm use to roughing it and just trying to leave an honest review of our 7 day stay I try not to be too hard on these reviews.
Goods: Location is amazing and close to everything, Jose the property manager was very helpful and they have a gate guard most of the day. Property was quiet and we had 0 concerns with safety in the area. Property has plenty of decent upgrades, paint, restrooms, etc. and you cant beat the location and price.
Bads: (not upset we had to pay for electricity but only knew we had to because of reviews) You pay for electricity I believe we were charged .25 per KW roughly 55 bucks for the week. Upstairs bedroom has soft walls (water damage) next to the headboard and the smell of mold. My wife started having asthma issues a few days in, thats when we discovered the walls had been painted over. So we closed up the room to keep air quality decent in the rest of the condo. Terry the owner didn't really offer a solution or discount, but he did apologize. The gate guard Elias passed out drunk 1-2 nights and we couldn't get back into the condo with our car. I was eventually able to wake him up in the guard shack on the other occasion I walked in and hit the clicker myself. He is a very nice man everyone deserves to relax Im not even mad about it just thought it was a minor issue.
Tips: Save some money and rent a car right next door for $300-400 for the week. Only exchange $2-300 for pocket money most places take credit cards. The exchange rate will hurt you coming and going instantly losing money. Using your card prevents the highway robbery. Barcelo Bavaro Beach resort Day pass is a must for 70 bucks all you can eat and drink. Wackamole and the Mexican restaurant right next door has great food. Casa de Yeya in DT Punta Cana has good Dominican food.
Overall a great stay with some draw backs. I would stay again if I come back and it is available.
Great place for our first time to the Dominican Republic
We arrived across from the Vista Sol Resort as directed since most ground transport companies know of this large all-inclusive but it was confusing to us where to go to the condo and Jose (who doesn't speak much English) was not visible from there. I would recommend telling the transport from the airport to take you a little further down the road to the RD68 hotel, which has a large parking lot and is on the same side of the busy street as the condo. You will be able to see Jose easily from there if he comes out to the sidewalk.
The condo has no elevator and Jose was kind enough to help with our luggage. You will pay for electricity. We took photos of the meter before and after, Since we only used fans and not the air conditioners and didn't leave lights on unnecessarily, the cost was reasonable less than $40 for the week.
The condo was the perfect size for the 4 of us, the kitchen is well equipped but the microwave was not working when we arrived. It was replaced several days later. We also had a toilet problem in one of the bathrooms, no problem we had 2 others. We understand getting things done in Latin american countries on Manana time isn't immediate.
It was recommended to drink bottled water. Our first day the security guard showed up with a 5 gallon container and asked for $5 US. We found out the local market just outside the gate will deliver the same amount for less than half that.
The condo is in the absolute best location for walking in the Corticito area across the street from from Playa Dona Matilde . It's close to everything we needed.
1) Playa Dona Matilde a short walk away (free use of beach lounge chairs come with purchase of food/beverage from Veni, Vidi, Vici)
2) Shopping was close by and for food we went to the super mercado Ciccoleta,
3) Great restaurants (We enjoyed Onnos, Dalias, Citrus, Coyote, Kats Corner, Wacamole and La Juntadera, which had the best tasting Mamajuana ). We heard complains about some all inclusive resorts having mediocre food and poor customer service.
4) Finally, we heard that some guests at the bigger resorts had things stolen from their rooms and one reportedly from a locked safe. We were pleased there was a security guard presence, locked gates at night, a deadbolt on our exterior door and locking doors for each bedroom.
Given what we heard from others tourists at the larger resorts, we are so glad we stayed at this remodeled condo for our first visit to the Punta Cana area.
The condo for perfect for us
"Hi, we really enjoyed our stay. The condo was perfect for 5. Jose was great when we arrived even if he doesn't speak English and we don't speak Spanish, we manage! We liked that it was secure and that was close to the beach. We bought a day pass at Vista Sol and enjoyed our day there. It's close to mini market and restaurants so that was useful. Terry always answered our questions very fast. We recommend this condo, there's everything you need in it.
For the price you can't beat it.
We stayed for a week at the property. First off, it is not a resort. But for me and my family who like to be in the middle of EVERYTHING, you couldn't beat it. A not even 5 minute walk to the beach and your on the sand and standing in the water. Everything was close proximity to the townhouse. Make a left and within a few steps there was a Dominican restaurant, that was at the end of the plaza. Ask for Valerie, she was very nice and very informative. Also there is a Mexican restaurant. If you walked down about a half mile there are other restaurants and stores. There a grocery stores there and you can pick up things to bring back and cook if you want to. The property was nice and comfortable. My wife spent a lot of time in the TV room and enjoyed the comfort of it. My sister enjoyed the upper deck on the 2nd floor and would wake up early to enjoy the morning breezes and take in the sun. Jose the property manager was very helpful and would come check on us if we asked for him to come up. Everyone was extremely friendly and it was a nice relaxing trip.
Spacious and convenient
I stayed at Terry and Jeffrey's condo with 3 other people for a week's long vacation. The number of bedrooms and bathrooms was so convenient, especially when staying with three other women! Although I always bring my own towels and washcloths, there were plenty in the condo for use, as well as a few beach towels. The balconies were also very nice. There is a gas grill available for use, although we did not use it. Our only complaints were that the water pressure was low upstairs and we came on a week when there was a malfunction with the water heater, so we did not have hot water for our stay. There are AC units in each room, which cool down the rooms pretty fast, and do not need to be turned down too low. I had mine on intermittently because the bedroom would get too cold! There are also ceiling fans and standing fans in the condo to help circulate the air.
Jeffrey and Terry are very responsive if there are any issues or questions. There is a property manager, Jose, who also lives in the complex. He was very helpful in figuring out issues as well. Ellis, who works as security and groundskeeper at the complex, was also very helpful in helping us get rides, giving directions, and bringing up water. He also helps us with our bags when we arrived, which was very helpful because we tend to overpack and the condo is located three flights up.
The location was very convenient, however, most of the taxi drivers and excursion drivers are unfamiliar with the location. Luckily, it is next to several major resorts and landmarks. We met our taxis next door at the RD68 hotel because they have a large sign on the front, and it is directly across from the entrance to the beach. I would recommend walking down a little further to Los Corales Village Beach or Bavaro Beach, it is a little nicer than Playa Dona Mathilde, and there is much more space to settle down. Playa Dona Mathilde is in between two resorts, who have security patrolling the beach front, and there is not much room to settle down.
