We are a family of six who live in San Francisco. Kenwood is our country escape. Our kids learned to swim, ride a bike, play tennis, run a trail, hike, putt, plant a garden and fall in love with nature because of this place. We are sport enthusiasts so the property is set up to entertain my triathalon husband as well as his outdoor loving family. It is casual and comfortable yet with all of life's luxuries!
My husband grew up in Portland, ME and graduated from Harvard. I grew up in Sunnyvale, CA and graduated from UC Berkeley and Stanford Business School. Our two boys are at Town School and our two girls attend Hamlin.
For us, Kenwood is magical.

We wanted to find a place where we could escape the City, experience nature and spend time as a family. The property has a beautiful feel to it-- It is the perfect set-up for multiple families and we have many friends whose kids feel they have grown up in Kenwood. The house was built with wood and stone from the property. It is simple in the best of ways yet stocked with all the luxuries you want.
-Borders 50 mile of hiking and running trails in Annendale State Park. Access to trailhead from the property. World class mountain biking, hiking and running.
-The most beautiful 25 yard pool
- Secluded and private yet 10 minutes from first class wineries and restaurants.
-Comfortably sleeps 12-14 people
-Hand built stone fireplace is the perfect place to read a book
-Stunning oak trees, garden, visiting wild turkey and deer
-The truth pit- (aka firepit)
- A night sky like no other!
This house offered exactly what we hoped for--plenty of space and activities for a three-generation family reunion. The grandparents could see and watch the kids in the pool, tennis court, basketball court, and bocce court and everyone could eat together inside or out at the big family tables. The gracious home and property were beautiful and relaxing, and we had everything we needed. The private setting made us feel like we were far away, and yet we could get to the store to grab something within ten minutes. It was perfect.
Laura could not be a more gracious or attentive host. The grounds are gorgeous and secluded with a wonderful pool and endless opportunities for playing together outdoors. We enjoyed everything from swimming with the babies, "playing tennis" with the toddlers, beating each other at ping pong, and making s'mores around the fire pit. Everything one could want for family fun is there. The house itself is very comfortable and spacious. I would not call it rustic. It is lovely with great art, comfortable furnishings, and an open design that has many private spaces inside and out for smaller groups. This place is a treasure. Thank you, Laura, for sharing it with us.
We have small children in our group so the plan was to rent a vacation house we didn't have to leave in order to have fun. We arrived to find the house and grounds exactly as advertised. Lovely setting with courts, a pool, and plenty for the young and older children to enjoy. Some of us travelled over the course of the week to kayak in the Russian River or go horseback riding. I was happy to stay by the pool, play tennis and ping pong, and relax. Perfect fit for our vacation.
Our Parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary so all siblings decided on Sonoma. This house was great! The Owner and manager made us feel welcome. Bedrooms were a nice size, bathrooms clean and a wonderful gourmet kitchen. The grill was huge and very easy to use. The on problem we had was the ice maker in the SubZero refrigerator did not work so we had to go out to buy ice.
The grounds were fun! We all swam, jacuzzied, and played: Bocce ball, ping pong, and tennis, it got our competitive juices flowing! We even used the fire pit. Wineries are all over the place and easily accessible. We would recommend this property to our friends and family.
We were part of a group that recently stayed at the Kenwood home for an event in the Santa Rosa area. The home was centrally located in Sonoma County and our group spent time in Healdsburg, Sonoma, Glen Ellyn, and other great spots. We're told great hiking was very near the property but did not get a chance this visit. The owner and property manager were responsive in advance of our stay, treated us very well, and the house and property were as promised.
The highlight of the property is undoubtedly the outdoor space - the pool, hot tub, sport court, fire pit, bocce ball etc... gave our group lots of great options during down time.
The interior of the home was comfortable and there was plenty of room for our group of 15 adults. The dining area was great for group dinners and the kitchen was fully functional for meal prep / food storage. We found the interior a bit dated, but overall had a great experience.
It's difficult to find a property that can sleep a large group of people, offer a break from The City and provide plenty of amenities (full bocce court, tennis court, basketball hoops, pool, jacuzzi, bordering Annadel State Park, etc.) to occupy said group of Generation Y'ers, and their short attention spans. But, this property easily covered all bases. In scouring the internet for lodging for our company reatreat, we fortunately landed upon this place. Laura and Linda were very accommodating; working with our scheduling requests not to mention, coming to the rescue by immediately resolving an internet issue we were experiencing (we're a tech company who relies on internet to function). Long story short: a great place in Sonoma, which offers pretty much whatever you're looking for.
