About Judy Suhr

Your hosts are Ben and Judy, thirty year residents of Necedah, retired, who enjoy meeting new people. Ben is a retired Land Surveyor and Judy a retired Teacher. While they live on the property in another house they respect privacy and are available if there are any questions you may have about the area and your stay.

The rental property was built for aging parents to live in during their retirement years and are no longer living; therefore sitting empty except for visits from family and friends.

Why Judy Suhr chose Castle Rock Lake

Ben's family visited the Necedah area in the 60's-70's and purchased the property in 1976 because they fell in love with the remoteness of the area and the fishing. Ben and Judy were married in 1989 and the property was given to them as a wedding present; it has been their home since. It is close to town (3 miles) and yet far enough out of town to enjoy what living in the country is all about. Seclusion from the main road, quiet star filled nights, wildlife sounds and sightings, as well as, room for gardening.

What makes this house unique

When you enter this home it is inviting and open. The kitchen has skylights and the living room has vaulted ceiling with windows all along the southern wall (ceiling to floor) for viewing the river and wooded property located on the other side of the river. The living room and kitchen have items placed throughout that have been collected over the years adding a uniqueness to this home away form home.

You can exit to the patio via the back door and step up to an extension of the patio with table, umbrella and chairs for outside dining with a view of the woods and river. The patio has lighting for night enjoyment.

The front porch has a wicker couch and chair for your leisure along with a recliner/rocker.

Quiet place on a river near the wildlife refuge.

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the nicest VRBO places I have stayed at. Very clean and quiet and well stocked. If you forget any toiletry, the owner had all kinds of sample shampoos, toothpaste etc. from which to choose. There were not any rules posted like some VRBO's have, so it felt more like home. The decorations were wonderful, the linens were soft and both beds were comfortable to sleep in. The living room furniture was comfortable and you can't beat a big screen TV. Even when we tried to get the video's to work and screwed up the TV, Judy was sweet enough to come over at nine at night to rectify the situation. We brought our mopeds along and were able to ride over to the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge from this home. Will try to go back some day in the fall or spring to see the migrating birds - will be nice to know this place will be available.

A gem of a place!

  • 5 of 5

We have vacationed several years in the Mauston/Necedah area, and this location has been one of the best! The owners are very welcoming and willing to answer any and all questions. Although they live on the property, we had complete privacy. The amenities provided are wonderful. Finding a pet-friendly cabin is not always easy, but my daughter's Husky was welcomed and enjoyed his stay! The property is clean, and every thing in the cabin is well maintained. There are plenty of cafes/restaurants in the area, and the Dells are not far away (if you like the business of that area). If you are looking for a quiet, very comfortable stay, this is the place. We are heading back next year! Thank you, Judy and Ben.

Awesome Inviting Home

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I along with our pup Kelvin enjoyed our stay here in May 2016. The owners are very accommodating, warm, and awesome!!! We picked this time of year as a "get away from work" vacation. It was awesome to say the least!!! We enjoyed our stay here for the weeks get away we so needed. The property was very clean, has anything you could need, large yard, wild life in the back yard over looking the water that runs through the property and inviting. I would have to give this property a 5 thumbs up in quality and value!!! Kelvin (Our pup) also wanted me to include "Thanks for the fun time I had playing with Bailey and romping in the yard!! It was fun!"
