Guestbook comments from the manager

This place is amazing!!

The pictures can only tell you so much and once your there you will know you made the correct choice.

When we arrived the house had a new deck and hardwood floors as a extra bonus.

You are able to walk to the beach and to downtown.

I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a great vacation.

Wonderful oceanfront winter getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our first impression as we walking into this house, was how clean it was! Even the big windows overlooking the ocean were sparkling. The beds and bedding were comfortable. The kitchen truly was well equipped....pots, pans, utensils, gadgets, dishes, glassware and more. This made for easy entertaining. After just a few days of our month long stay, we realized we had found THE house we wanted to return to for our winter getaways. The property managers were responsive and patient as we settled in. We definitely hope to return to 138 Neptune for years to come.

Great Stay on the beach in Encinitas!

  • 5 of 5

Just completed our stay with my wife, our 8-month old, and in-laws and couldn't have been happier with our experience. The house is in a perfect location as we walked into town daily and the view is incredible. We made sure we were home every night to see the sunset which was amazing.

It was about a 5 minute walk to Moonlight beach which was easy, even with the little one in tow. The house was exactly what we needed, clean, and had all the necessary amenities. Aspects of the house like the bathrooms could be renovated but perfectly fine for a beach house. Everything provided was of high quality unlike other VRBO properties I've stayed at, including the furniture, kitchen equipment, linens, etc. It was an added bonus that baby supplies like a pack-and-play, high chair, bouncy chair, etc. were available and great layout for little kids since it was a single floor with limited furniture and clutter.

Arianne and Massimo were very attentive, easy to get in touch with if we had any questions, and were happy to provide local recommendations. Extremely good value for the location especially taking in account the resale value of the property (just look on Zillows). House is located in a quiet neighborhood with limited space between properties, so definitely not the right fit for a younger group looking to party. Only negative I could think of is the cable package is very basic, so didn't have some popular channels like ESPN. In the end, we were probably better off since it forced us to spend time outside and explore SoCal! I would definitely rent this house again and recommend it to friends and family. Ignore the negative reviews on this property since it's clear the renters had unreasonable expectations or were the cause of the problems. Note there are trains that run through Encinitas which can be heard from the house, sometimes in the middle of the night, however the tracks are over half a mile away and the potential noise is not specific to this house. If you are a light sleeper and concerned about train noise, Encinitas in general is probably not the right location for you.

Primo Location and Quintessential Beach House

  • 5 of 5

This is the quintessential SoCal beach house. It's tidy and clean, simple, and the view and location cannot be beat. It was also a great value for the location and size of the property. In addition to proximity to the beach, there are also a number of restaurant choices that are walkable on 101. And despite being so close to the beach action and the beachy town of Encinitas, it was still really peaceful/quiet. We will look into staying here again when we are out in San Diego visiting family.

This property is a good value. It is not a luxury unit but is adequately clean and comfortable. I have rented many beach homes…..from cheap to luxurious. This home is really nice without the unneeded extras and the cost that goes with them. We found moonlight beach to be the perfect distance for a stroll…..even with 4 children ages 2-7. The beach itself was very well maintained and in October….it was virtually empty. There is actually a beach on both sides of them home…..both a short walk in a cute and safe neighborhood. I liked this home and if I am in the area again….I will give them a call.

Beautiful location ruined by noise at night

  • 1 of 5

This property is situated in the most amazing spot for a family holiday, a short walk from a great beach and not far from San Diego. It's true what the other reviews say that it's a little rough around the edges and the kitchen could have been cleaner (there was a mousetrap set up in the corner when we arrived) but we genuinely did not mind that given the location and would have given it a high rating but for one massive problem. Every night, almost all night, trains sound their horns very loudly when passing over the road crossing about 4 blocks away. It woke up my wife, who is a heavy sleeper, and son several times during the night despite using earplugs and I am a light sleeper and found it almost impossible to sleep here. Apparently nobody has ever mentioned this to the agent before - I don't normally write reviews but I wanted people to be aware of the issue as it ruined the vacation for me.

Owner's Response: We have managed this home for over four years, stayed here ourselves for 5 months, and have had over 150 guests stay at the home - many repeat guests because the home is so quiet. As Jonathan said this is the first complaint we have ever had EVER about the train. Jonathan is from a small village 30 miles from the nearest city in the English countryside and said that he, "in particular is a very light sleeper" and the most noise he hears is, "an owl". We asked if he wanted a refund to stay somewhere else but he responded with, "We don't want to leave, it's fantastic here...". Jonathan also responded with, "I do hear what you say about nobody mentioning if before..." and "so as not to disrupt my family I have...a hotel 20 mins drive inland...". He drove 20 minutes inland every night to the only place he could find that was quiet enough for him to sleep while his wife and son stayed at the beach house. Jonathan said that it was too noisy in all of coastal San Diego due to the train. The train is .3 miles east of the home and is separated from the beach house by eleven houses, a commercial street/buildings, and five streets including the 101 highway. Jonathan said he loved everything about the home except for the train sounds. His wife and son loved the home and insisted on staying there even when he took a hotel every night 20 minutes inland. We tried multiple times to accomodate Jonathan but his wife and son wanted to stay at the home and he could not find another location in San Diego that was near the beach and quiet enough for him to sleep. Instead of moving his family he drove 20 minutes inland every night and returned to the beach house in the morning. We pride ourselves on taking good care of our guests. Jonathan's family said they had a great time and had the option to relocate with a full refund so we are extremely disappointed with a one star rating and do not feel it is warranted.

Great location, deck and extras!!!

  • 5 of 5

Had a really nice time at this property. Stayed there for a week and really liked the location. Location is between Lego Land and San Diego Zoo, Sea World, San Diego Downtown / Gas Lamp attractions. Even though the location is closer to Carlsbad than San Diego, it is not a bad drive at all outside of rush hour. Location is also a great spot for biking and running as it is really close to good running / biking lanes heading down S 101 (south of the Encinitas main street area). Great restaurants and shops close by as well. Spent a lot of time on the deck as it is on a cliff that overlooks the beach. Great for grilling, socializing, etc. House has a lot of amenities like a proximity to main beach area, good kitchen, living area, toys for little ones, grill, etc. Could not locate the fire pit that was mentioned and some of the kitchen appliances (refrigerator, sink sprayer, coffee maker, microwave, etc. need a little TLC). All in all, the negatives aren't strong enough to not give this house a 4.5 to 5 rating.
