About Lisa Smith

Tom and Lisa Smith will be your hosts for your stay. We are life time residents of the Adirondack Mountains and moved to Jay in 2005 after having lived in Lake Placid, the Olympic village all of our lives. Tom is a retired teacher of 31 years and Lisa has pursued her passions of gardening, writing, sewing and raising their 3, now adult, children.

Lisa Smith purchased this house in 2005

Why Lisa Smith chose Whiteface Mountain

When Tom and Lisa sold their home in Lake Placid and went on a search for the new spot it was love at first 'site'. We knew we wanted to build a log home and we knew we wanted peaceful, gentle living with mountain views. This was the first property we saw and we knew it was it! It had everything we were looking for and it has proven to be perfect in every way! The grounds are perfect for Lisa's many gardens and have recently become the grounds for a wine vineyard, under the supervision of our oldest son who is a sommelier' The property has been fun to make ours! You will enjoy the beauty that we have created in this spot!!

What makes this house unique

The Eagle's Nest is a cozy, inviting place for you to rest. The views out of the windows will calm your very core. There is a covered Farmer's porch for you to sit on and enjoy a meal or your morning coffee. The kitchen is well equipped and in the winter months you will warm yourself by a propane fired soapstone stove in the living area. In season,a small fireplace area is outside for your evening roasting of marshmallows or just enjoying the stars and the evening air.

Best vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

This is honestly my favorite vacation I have ever been on! Super nice and helpful owners, beautiful property, and I just love the area! The adirondacks are a favorite of mine, and it was wonderful to see them from a local setting. Jay is such a cute town! The covered bridge and AuSable swimming hole were stunning and the playground down the road was beautiful. The town is centrally located to hikes and neighboring towns. It was easy to explore the area in any direction. The house itself is just beautiful and comfortable. Such a nice place to be. I love it so much that I definitely want to go back, and I would buy this house if I could! Thank you Tom and Lisa!

Eagle's Nest in Jay NY

  • 5 of 5

Eagle's Nest is a great place to stay - we were a group of six and there was plenty of room inside. We were able to spread ourselves out and plan for our next hike. Everything worked and is very nice. The fire-pit in the backyard was a plus. Excellent location as well - swimming and rock slides right down the road, trailheads begin at about 15 minutes away and the town of Wilmington is just under 10 minutes.

Thank you Lisa and Tom

Great location, quiet, clean and charming

  • 5 of 5

This rental was in the perfect location, away from the crowds of Lake Placid, but close enough to visit. Close to Whiteface and lots of trails. Closer to Ausable Chasm. Charming place with great mountain views.

High quality

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Eagle's Nest. We have already talked about booking for next year. Having all the amenities of home made this trip so easy. There was 6 of us (my husband, myself, two twenty years olds and 2 fifteen year old boys). We saved so much money cooking our meals at the cabin (and used the great grill to cook veges and chicken and burgers) The propane ran out but the owners had an extra one filled right on the porch so no issues trying to get dinner ready. The pantry was stocked with some helpful items too. I appreciated there being a washer and dryer (and a very nice one!!) We had a lot of rain and still went hiking. Came back full of MUD. The boys used the hose (which was like a pressure washer it had so much power) to clean off our sneaker. I threw them in the wash and they came out cleaner than ever. The beds were very comfortable, quality blankets, 2 full bathrooms with thick towels, fully stocked kitchen with bowls, Tupperware, coffee maker, pitcher to make lemonade in - the list goes on. Everything was clean and top quality. It made it nice for the time we stayed in during the heavy rain periods. Games were in the closet, some movies provided, and a beautiful covered porch overlooking the mountains.
