Walk to beach and downtown from this sunny accommodation in cool San Clemente
French doors lead into this sweet beach getaway in charming San Clemente, California. The sleeping room (approx. 175 sq. ft) is spanking clean with polished original hardwood floors and includes a flat screen TV, a mini-fridge, micro, toaster and coffeemaker to get your day going. There is a large bathroom with tub and shower, as well as a large living and dining area. Please note that the sleeping arrangement is for two people in the double bed in the bedroom. The sofa in the living area is not used for overnight sleeping.
Laurita (that's me) has all 5 star reviews and prides herself on accommodating any request her treasured guests may have. I live on the property, at the opposite end of the house, so I am available to my guests 24-7.
Casita Laurita is a room in a 70 year old typical San Clemente beach bungalow in the older section of town. It's located on a street that leads down to popular T-Street beach, one of the most famous surf spots in the world.
I don't believe in "extra charges" for early check-in or late check-outs. They are always possible if I don't have a same day guest on those days. In addition, I always have a welcome gift with wine/beer (whatever you choose) waiting for my guests upon arrival.
There is a large patio area with barbecue grill, seating area, perfect for relaxing in the afternoon after a day at the beach or sightseeing around our beautiful 'Spanish Village By The Sea'.
From Casita Laurita it's a short walk everywhere: famous T-Street beach, downtown, bars, restaurants, grocery store. The Amtrak train makes daily stops at the pier to take you Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara and other coastal cities. The #1 bus at the end of the street will take you all the way up the coast to Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Surf City USA (Huntington Beach) and beyond!

About Laura Clark
I've lived in San Clemente for 20 years after 10 years in Europe. My home is filled with eclectic pieces from many countries so of course the adjoining Casita Laurita reflects my style!
Why Laura Clark chose San Clemente
I've always loved the 'southwest' section of San Clemente, the older, sought after area close to well known surf spots and pristine beaches. From the moment I stepped foot into this house, I knew it would be my 'home' for a very long time. And now I welcome guests from around the world to share in this little bit of paradise, San Clemente Beach.
What makes this Guest House unique
The casita is walking distance to the beach, pier, downtown, shops, bars, restaurants, grocery stores, train stop (catch the train to LA or San Diego right from the pier!)

Charming and Clean
I wish there had been a choice between "I loved it!" and "Not really," as that would have been where we fit. Although I gave Laura five stars because of her personality and aim to please, I did not feel this was a five-star stay.
The facility itself is very clean, well-decorated and charming. Laura goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. She had a little basket of Easter candy and two drinks waiting. She shows you around and spends time with you.
However, there are some things that were not up to par.
The bed is a double, which did not make for a comfortable fit. We felt at least a queen would help. It was unseasonably cold, and there is no central heating. So the first night, even with every blanket/duvet I could find, it was way too cold...and we are from Northern Idaho. The house is 65-years-old, so the wood flooring and tile do not help. That being said, Laura did provide extra bedding and a space heater the next day, which made a world of difference. The shower was difficult to pull on and turn off. It took me quite awhile to get it to stop the slow stream and trickling. Water in the sink takes a long time to heat - shower better. The neighbor on the side could look right into the bedroom, as he was doing some sort of cleaning/remodeling in the day and the window covering does not block that out. You have to really close all the curtains well at night, as visibility into the house/room is pretty darn good from the street. I thought the location was much closer to T-Street based on a photo on the site. The hill looking down is about a mile away. I assumed the house was where the photo was taken. I used to live in this area, so I know it pretty well. Not a major biggie, but it is slightly deceiving. It is very close to El Camino Real, so the location to the main street is good.
Overall, though a lovely lady with a flare for hospitality and decorating, we would not stay again.
Thanks so much for taking the time to review Casita Laurita and also for your compliment on my "personality", decorating flair and overall aim to please. How very kind of you. With the "aim to please" way about me, you must know how sorry I am that you had to endure an uncomfortable night the first day! I wish you would have taken me up on my offer for a cozy duvet and space heater while I was walking your through your check-in . We were definitely having one of those rare, unseasonable chilly winter nights in balmy San Clemente and I thought you might need it. Since I live right on the property, I quick call to alert me of any problem (even in the middle of the night) would have been rectified in minutes. Again, my apologies. I'm so happy that you were warm and toasty for the rest of your visit!
As far as the double vs. queen bed goes, yes a queen would offer more sleeping space but unfortunately less space in the sleeping room. I spent many years living in Europe so in decorating that room I decided to go with a more European standard of a double bed. It is noted in the VRBO room description so fortunately I have never had a surprised guest.
I travel a lot and have been disappointed more than once upon arrival to a new place, sometimes with the accommodation, other times with the precise location. Because of my own experience, I pride myself on publishing very realistic photos of what to expect while visiting my place and am very proud when often the first comment I hear is "oh wow, it's just like in the photos!" The location in relation to the beach and downtown is also extremely important that is why I post distances in the "location" page of VRBO. A re-check of distances is as follows: .5 miles 8 min. walk to T-street Beach (straight down my street)
.7 miles 11 min walk to Del Mar (main street with shops and restaurants)
.2 miles 4 min walk to Ralphs Grocery store and El Camino Real (main street that runs through the city)
Yes, this year my home is celebrating 70 years in the older, most desirable area of SC! So while I have had many updates over the years, quirks like water taking a couple of minutes to heat up is common in my neighborhood. Sorry for that inconvenience but something beyond my control,
You guys were great guests. Thank you again for the 5 stars and for your overall compliments about me ("Laurita:) and my accommodation. I "aim-to-please" and will continue to do so as long as Casita Laurita is in business!
Great space for relaxing and healing! We walked to the beach daily. Laura is amazing! The only downside is that the neighbor on the side of the property where we stayed is loud.
Beautilful and Refreshing
The host Laura was awesome and very welcoming! I love to walk and her location is walking distance to beach, downtown, restaurants etc.. The location is very peaceful and charming and was grateful I was able to book at her location. I could not ask for a better place to spend my vacation! The wonderful weather, location, and the host..... it was perfect!
Thanks Laura for a great stay at your home in San Clemente.. Lovely home, Clean and great location.
Thanks so much! It was lovely having you here for your father and son get-away. I'm glad to hear you found my place clean and situated well to everything within walking distance.
All the best to you and with kind regards,
Perfect, Relaxing Getaway!
This was my husband's and my first experience using VRBO, and Casita Laurita was the perfect choice for our San Clemente vacation. We were in town for our friends' wedding and we were looking for a small, quiet place that exuded the charm of the town. Laura's house is so beautiful and peaceful, and she was the absolute perfect host. We actually felt like she was a friend of the family and she made us feel like Casita Laurita was our home away from home. The space we stayed in was cozy and clean, and it had everything we needed for our time there. Laura also went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, checking in every now and then, but still giving us plenty of privacy. If we find ourselves heading back to San Clemente in the future, we would definitely stay at Casita Laurita again. Thanks for such a wonderful time, Laura!
You guys were just terrific guests. It always makes me feel good when I see people enjoying their time together and the amenities Casita Laurita offers. Have a great summer and please come back again - and send your family, as discussed!
A Comfortable home base for exploring the Coast
The Casita Laurita isl located on a quiet street close to to the beach, restaurants and the freeway.
Staying there is almost like visiting grandmother's house. The furniture and layout is not modern but is functional. There is very little in the way of a kitchen.
Laura is an energetic host. She goes out of her way to ensure that her guests enjoy their time in San Clemente.
Thanks so much for your review! Yes, my place is indeed very convenient to the beach, downtown and restaurants while also being easy access to the freeway to venture further out of town. My eclectic take on furnishing has always appealed to my guests so my apologies to you if it was not in a more modern vein!
I hope you guys continued on to complete a lovely tour of our beautiful coastal California. If you find your way back this way, of course you will always be welcome at Casita Laurita. Next time, if you would like to really cook, you can choose to add the full kitchen if the microwave, mini-fridge, toaster, coffeemaker, etc., did not prove to sufficient enough for this short stay. Perhaps you didn't see that option when booking. So sorry!
Thanks again to a couple of delightful travelers.
All the best,
Laura aka "Laurita"'
